Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Pretty much the only place I shop for clothes these days is Old Navy. Now, last summer when I was doing some shopping for summer clothes, I was able to get quite a few items for a reasonable price but those days seem to be gone. This past weekend, I went to pick up a pair of shorts and some t-shirts and the 4 items that I purchased came out to $75! 75 fucking dollars for 2 t-shirts, a pair of shorts and a pair of jeans! What the fuck? Has shopping for clothes always been this expensive or am I just shopping at the wrong stores? Needless to say, I won't be buying clothes for awhile. What stores do you guys shop at? Mik 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 You're not a good shopper. If I go into Old Navy I can get probably 2 pairs of shorts and 3 shirts for $75. They move good stuff to clearance very fast in there. As to whether it's always been that expensive... it's all relative. I've paid $75 for a single t-shirt before. Red Baron 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Clearance is your best friend. I've picked up Ralph Lauren or IZOD shirts for $15 bucks. It's all about where you shop. Places like Marshalls or in Canada, Winners you can find some good stuff at times, and some times you can't. Best time shopping is weekdays afternoons, no one is around and there are some good items. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Yeah, it depends on where and how you shop. I basically set a budget for myself and see what I like and if it's really worth it. I have to go to Levi's soon and get some new jeans, and typically I don't spend over $20-30 on pretty nice ones. Although, I should probably get some more shorts soon also. Jingus 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Old Navy always been this expensive The end. If you don't actually work in the fashion industry, there's no reason not to buy plain cheap clothes from Walmart. (Unless you object to the fact that it's made by crippled little kids in sweatshops, and if you do you're a commie phag.)
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 I've spent $38 on a tshirt, and that's crazy. But it had a giant picture of Paris Hilton blowing a guy, I just could not... not buy it. I also have a sweatshirt with the same picture, and it was only $80. That's relatively cheap. The store I got this in is ridiculously expensive, but they have the coolest shirts. I'll buy stuff off their clearance rack for $20, which is an ok price for a tshirt, I guess, but if I like it enough, I'll spend $30 for the new ones... occasionally. This store is called The District. Don't think they're a chain. They have a $180 Nike running shoe there.

(Unless you object to the fact that it's made by crippled little kids in sweatshops, and if you do you're a commie phag.) Or you actually want to look good and get laid? I don't know. There are two main reasons I can think of: 1) Clothes from Walmart fall apart fast - because you get what you pay for 2) They are either totally plain and boring or marketed to white trash Also, Old Navy is on the veeeery cheap end of clothing stores. I only really shop there when I don't want to spend a lot of money. I've spent $38 on a tshirt, and that's crazy. But it had a giant picture of Paris Hilton blowing a guy, I just could not... not buy it. I also have a sweatshirt with the same picture, and it was only $80. That's relatively cheap. If I had the capacity to wear something like that in public I'd pay $38 for it, too. $38 is bad, but I was dumb enough to pay $75 for a f.c.u.k t-shirt in SoHo when I went to NY last year. I'm also currently contemplating buying one of those Affliction t-shirts that all the UFC guys wear but they are $49.

Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 There's this place called Buckle that sells Affliction shirts. I thought about it for like 4 seconds, but then a) saw the $46 price b) saw a bro walking in wearing one and decided against it. Got this really neat Obey shirt for $30, though. That's about as much as I'll pay for a t-shirt.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted July 10, 2007 I order virtually all of my shirts on the internet. Pants and shorts I generally get on the cheap at Kohl's.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 I can get four very nice dress shirts of various colors for 75 bucks through the catalogs and online, not one of them has fallen apart yet. As for Walmart clothes being cheap, I get my shorts from there and I haven't had to go get new ones in four years. The only thing I avoid getting at Walmart is khakis since they will fall apart from there. I found another local store and got a nice pair for 15 bucks. The most I have ever paid for a t-shirt is 35 for a Metallica shirt for my girl. Talk about some high priced clothing, Metallica knows how to overprice their stuff with the best. For me personally, about 25 bucks for some Patriots shirt after their first Super Bowl win.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 I'm the type that will drop $200 on a pair of jeans. I don't think I can offer much to this thread.
tominator89 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 I'll admit it, I don't mind doing some shopping at Thrift Stores. Most of the clothes I wear around the house came from one. I've gotten a good number of cool old band shirts from there.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Dude, Marshalls is your friend. I got a 180 dollar pair of jeans out of there for 16.99. My 250 dollar Cole Haans? 69 bucks. My 200 dollar dress pants? 40 bucks. My 120 dollar dress shirt? 30 bucks. I LIVE out of that place. My entire wardrobe. everything else (usually Timberlands and sneakers) are from the internet. I also will just go and get some Iron on transfers and make my own shirts if its something special, like my silverhawks shirt or my lindsay lohan hold a knife to that chicks throat. My question is when did clothes shopping get so gay. I go and pick up something that according to the tag is my size and then the jeans are actually some lo-cut, tight around the thigh, design running up the leg type of bs. Or those tight ass tshirts. Or all these pink and orange stripes. They just need to have a gay section and call it a day. I know wearing these clothes don't make you gay, but you wouldn't look out of place at gay club with them on.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Or you actually want to look good and get laid? I don't know. If your personality, looks, and everything else are so bad that you have to rely on your possessions to get sex, you've got more problems than just finding a good store to shop in. At Home 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 I buy my own clothes pretty often, but usually I just rely on other people buying clothes for me. I will never buy my own jeans. I don't mind the price, but I'll have my sister buy them for me. I usually just pick up shirts from places that I go to like concerts or record stores, or just buy plain t-shirts from places like American Apparel (they're so comfortable!) If your personality, looks, and everything else are so bad that you have to rely on your possessions to get sex, you've got more problems than just finding a good store to shop in. It's not like we're talking about who has the better car or a better TV. What clothes you wear speaks to your personality. And a dude who wears Walmart clothes screams scumbag. And girls know it. You can get clothes just as cheap from much better places. Buying at Walmart shows a complete lack of style and/or effort to look good.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 I also will just go and get some Iron on transfers and make my own shirts if its something special, like my silverhawks shirt or my lindsay lohan hold a knife to that chicks throat. Where do you get something like that? I've always wanted to make my own shirts, but never enough to think of where to get the stuff to do it. I have no idea. Regarding Walmart marketing to white trash, the Walmarts in Oakland have ghetto stuff. I own two items of clothing from Walmart: a hoodie that says 'Mexico' and a tshirt that says "100% Black". Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted July 10, 2007 I'll note that Walmart actually does sell some decent brand name stuff and some of the shirts there look like stuff you can get at any mall store. I have a red vintage looking Coca Cola shirt I got from there and some Dickies shirts, shorts, and pants as well. Although normally Walmart is way too far for me to drive, so I shop at higher end places. I usually shop only like, twice a year for clothes and so it comes out kind of pricey for me sometimes because I like having good taste. I do a lot of what pbone says- get them at concerts and whatever just sort of randomly, and I also shop at American Apparel since it's right down the street. Buffalo Exchange is pretty awesome also if you want good styles at mega cheap prices.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Oh yeah, Walmart has Dickies, they're a decent brand (and an excellent band). They're starting to go downhill though. I know this from my retail management job, before I was fired. They're still good, but may not be after a few years. Like Coleman.
Mik 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 American Apparel makes some damn fine clothes. I wish threadless still printed their shirts on AA.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 There's so many cheap places to shop on the internet. Let's see... --Endless, eBay or Zappos for shoes. --for athletic apparel, which is about half of my closet, Eastbay online, or Footlocker/Champs/Finish Line either online or in stores when it's on sale. Which it always is. If you are picky using eBay, you'll find a good deal there too. --for normal clothing, PacSun, KillerDana, Amazon, or just being fucking patient until you see something you like for cheap. Granted, I have to strictly stick to boardshorts and tees because of where I live, but it's way more expensive to constantly have a rotating closet of boardshorts than jeans and cargo shorts. Clothes shopping at Walmart is just plain lazy. It's fine if you need to find a cheap item here or there, or there's a good brand name that you like, but don't shop there exclusively because "there's no deals to be had". You do have access to the Internet.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2007 We've got a Marshall's around here, but honestly I haven't seen much of anything the few times I've been in their lately. Kohl's is great for sales, because you can get stuff at end of season clearances for as high as 80% off at times. I tend to stick to a handful of stores (Hollister, American Eagle, Express Men (formerly Structure)) because it's what I'm most comfortable in, the clothes hold up for a long time, and I know I won't have any issues with it. Even those stores, despite being amongst the "high-end"/"trendy"/etc. set, have some amazing sales. You just have to know when to hit them up. I just recently got some button down shirts from Hollister that usually retail around $40-$50 on sale for $14. Checking the company websites help too, because a lot of their sale prices online beat out the store sale prices (and sometimes vice versa).

Where do you get something like that? I've always wanted to make my own shirts, but never enough to think of where to get the stuff to do it. I have no idea. You can do it for the cheap. All you need is a photo printer and some Iron on transfers. The best ones are the HP ones that I Have only seen at target. Always get the ones for dark T-shirts. The HP ones are thinner, and fit with the cloth better. If you can't find those you can grab the Avery Dark Tshirt transfers from like walmart or order them online. Print whatever image or anything you can come up with on the computer, print it up and iron it on. I used to sell these so I have more stuff to do them well, like this really heavy old school Iron that makes ironing them on simple, and I have all these settings in photoshop to get the color matching better, but they will come out kickass regardless. I rencently have upgraded to cloth transfers which are harder work but they are pretty kick ass.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2007 Kohl's is great for sales, because you can get stuff at end of season clearances for as high as 80% off at times. God yes. If you ever need a coat, go there near the end of February and you'll have it made. I saw a coat this past winter that had retailed for around $200 and was marked down to $40. I was on the fence, decided to hold off, came back a day later, and the sale was over. But Kohl's has such great sales that I don't even bother looking at their "new" clothing. Strictly clearance. Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted July 13, 2007 I found a pretty good shirt from wal mart. It's this shit brown color with a caveman on the front, and "Let's Go Clubbin'" in old west wanted poster lettering.
TheSSNintendo 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2007 I mainly shop at Kohl's for clothes. You can get at least two pairs of shorts for $40, compared to American Eagle where one pair will cost the same. I've tried Old Navy with no luck, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. I just go with whatever I like and whatever looks good to me.
