Guest Report post Posted August 23, 2007 Last buffet I went to was at Mandalay Bay. I stuffed myself so much that I couldn't sit down in comfort during the fights later. I hate buffets, but this one was unlike the ones around here. It was fuckin' excellent. I tipped 5 bucks.
In Credible 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2007 If you happen to find a buffet with quality food (which usually means casino) then they are bad ass. You feel like a king at a feast you can have all kinds of food. I think that's the appeal, the excess of it all.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2007 Fuck those beans. That is place where more flank steak could be. Although I do fuck up their mango when I go. It complements alot of the meat. Do they do grilled Pineapple down there? If they don't demand Grilled Pineapple. They bring it around like the meat on skewers. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Also, Chicken Hearts, love those little bastards. They don't do the grilled pineapple that the cheaper one I go to. But the more expensive one doesn't do Chicken Hearts. The cheaper one does. Jaxxson Mayhem 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2007 I can't eat at them. Can't get passed the fact that that shit is unsanitary as fuck. Too many people sticking their hands in there.

NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2007 Anyone live near one of these so-called "mongolian BBQ / grill" places where you make up your own stirfry based upon all kinds of ingredients and they stirfry it for you? And you can go as many times as you like, for like $10? It's great. Yes, we have them all over Sacramento. Some feature just the stiry-fry bowls while others, also feature chinese food cuisine. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2007 There's a great place like that in Charlottesville. It used to be called "Asian Buffet," but I think it's moved since and taken on a less generic name. Decent to good sushi, great hibachi, and a copious chinese buffet. I long for something similarly tacky and tasty up in D.C.

DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2007 Brave folks. Maybe I'm just a wimp when it comes to heat but I can barely touch the tongs at buffets without getting a slight discomfort, let alone reaching under the heating element to grab something. Scarlett_Rayne 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2007 the only thing that really appeals to me about certain buffets is the variety in foods... i like to sample more than stick to just one thing
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2007 I never ever liked Old Country Buffet. There were some buffets I used to like, but now I really only like the one at the casino we go to.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2007 That being said, buffets are wonderful. Low prices, all you can eat- What's not to love? Ah, but you go to one of the buffets at a Vegas megacasino, and the prices aren't exactly low. It is, however, cheaper than eating at one of their restaurants and the food is generally top notch. Asians. Seriously, have you seen them in a casino buffet? They but infront and touch everything with their hands. Yeah, especially the old ones, who pretend that they don't understand English. Or even Cantonese when I give them shit for doing that. It's generally worst at the raw bar/cooked seafood stations. It actually amazes me that Chinese restaurants have finally started providing communal chopsticks so that everyone doesn't stick their own into the food. Out of curiosity, is this Vegas price rise a recent thing? I've been twice (the first time in 2003) and despite what films like Kingpin would have me believe, the cheapest buffet was like $20. Red Baron 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2007 Another question that popped into my mind about this. Does anyone actually tip at these places? They don't really do anything except for taking your dishes away and get you your re-fill. That's still service, guy. Now, if they're letting your dirty plates pile up in front of you, different story, but if they're constantly clearing your eating area and refilling your glasses, I say that's worth at least 10% or $1-2 for buffets < $10. But always check the bill, as some places tack on the gratuity regardless of service. If the person is just refilling your drink and taking away dishes isn't really service. Service is personalizing with the customer, and if you can't do that then don't expect a tip.

You must be going to the high-end hotels. Downtown and other off-Strip casinos (aside from the Rio) and cheaper Strip properties generally have dinner buffets in the $10-17 range. The one at the Golden Nugget downtown is $16.99 for dinner and quite good. Orleans is $13.95 and decent.

I would recommend checking out Las Vegas Advisor since they list a lot of bargains around town.

I've never been a huge buffet guy, mainly because I'm a smaller guy who can eat a fair bit for his size but not enough to justify some of the prices that are being charged. If anything I like buffets for the desserts, not the actual food.

Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2007 I like Izzys. Same here, Izzy's is great for a big, inexpensive meal. Yes, the fuck it is service. Fast food people personalize with the customer but don't do anything else for them. The person is giving you service by refilling your glas and taking away the dishes you cheapass. Considering that they arn't doing the principal service associated with serving, namely serving the food, I don't think buffets warrant more than a nominal tip at the most. Taking away dishes is barely even a service to the customer, it's a service to the restaurant (so they don't run out of plates, the table is clear so they can seat more customers, etc.); it's got to happen regardless. Filling up a free glass of water or a bottomless soda that cost two bucks is maybe worth a few cents.

the max 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2007 Standard tip for a buffet is $1 per person. That's how I always did it. A former friend of mine was the overtipper. She would go 18% on a check at a buffet. No matter what anyone said. 18%! I don't tip that well at a regular restaurant.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2007 I can't think of anything a server could do to get me to tip more than $2 at a buffet. OK, I can, but I don't see me getting a BJ under the table anytime soon.
