Thank Christ the Jets won tonight. I can think of few ways to end the season worse than losing to Herm Edwards in the Meadowlands.

 

Its cool that the Jets won, but what does the draft situation look like now? They're either going to be as high as third or as low as sixth.

Oh god, Football Night in America is going to be horrible. This year has made me hate Chris Colonsworth, and he used to be one of the good ones.

People will point to the Bengals game as the one that screwed the Browns but I can't help but think back to that early game vs. Oakland. Cleveland had the FG but Lane Kiffin did his bullshit Mike Shannahan impersonation and called that split second timeout. Then the rekick was blocked. That crap ended up costing the Browns that game, and in the end, the playoffs.

The AFC has one of the toughest overall fields I've ever seen. A whopping 5 of 6 teams have over +100 in differential. I know someone will insist that Seattle can go far, but they were only 3-5 on the road so if they can even beat the Redskins they will be toast the next round.

To be honest, since the Jets really don't need a Darren McFadden or a Matt Ryan, I'm not too concerned about them dropping to sixth. If it were up to me, I'd be using that pick to snatch up a decent offensive linesman, which shouldn't be too hard to find at that spot.

I will say this- The one team that does scare me with playing in Lambeau in the NFC Playoffs is Washington, because the game against them earlier this year was extremely close, plus they're a much more run- and defense-oriented team than the Packers, so they might fare better under the conditions sure to be present in January.

 

I think the best possible Super Bowl combination could be Green Bay-Indianapolis, at least from my perspective. A Dallas-NE matchup would be as insufferable as Czech said, and Dallas-Indy would probably be very similar to Seattle-Pittsburgh from a few years ago. Decent, but not a great game. At least with Green Bay-Indianapolis you have two very strong passing teams with HOF quarterbacks, and fast, young, if not terribly elite defenses.

 

And I also have a feeling NE will be upset at Gillette Stadium this year, simply because although THEY KNOW HOW TO WIN, their team, much like Green Bay's, isn't built for the conditions they're sure to face. Maroney can run, but a good running game and defense- I'm thinking Indianapolis and Jacksonville here- might be able to overcome them. That said, if New England gets to the Super Bowl, they're going to unleash a `94 Niners-like (if not worse) annihilation on whoever they come across.

I couldn't stand the Elway vs Favre= Favre vs Manning comparisons that would inevitably come. Just give me anything other then NE/Seattle and I'll try to stomach it. It doesn't matter who wins this wretched season.

Anything Chargers or the obvious would be nice. But outside of that, I'd like to see Green Bay/New England. It sure would be nice to see Favre leave the game with a victory like that. I know most of you don't feel that way.

I'd be fine with just about any Super Bowl matchup as long as the Giants, Packers, or Colts aren't in it. It would be nice to see the Patriots finish the job since 19-0 has never been done before.

I want the Tennessee Titans to win. I like Jeff Fisher. He looks and sounds like that just vaguely creepy distant quasi-uncle (like your mom's cousin) you have that you see at events held by other distant relatives, like a pig roast or something, and he just stands around with an Old Style and chest hair bubbling out from under his polo shirt, and when he acknowledges you, he makes some half-assed remark about how much you've grown since the last time he saw you, and then he goes back to just standing around, maybe discussing with other grown-ups how he met his new girlfriend on the "Internet."

 

Since that's nearly impossible, I guess I want Pittsburgh to face...oh shit, help me out here. What a terrible lot. I can't like any of these NFC teams. The more I think about the Packers winning again, the more I really fear that outcome after all. No more Seawhats. I hate all three NFC East for varying, but intense, reasons. The Buccaneers only won 9 games. Maybe I really won't watch any of this shit. I have no duty to do so.

People can say "Had the Browns won here" or "had the Brown done this" all they want. I can take solace in the fact that they went 10-6 (better than expected) against teams that played to win while Tennessee went 9-6 against teams that played to win and 1-0 against a team that took a dive.

So of course I ended up watching the Colts/Titans game afterall. Jim Sorgi is lucky to have a job as a backup. Granted, he was throwing to 2nd stringers, but other than his TD throw, I don't think any of his throws had any zip at all to them. A QB really has to suck to have his potential game winning drive not even get a fuckin first down. He looked like a nervous wreck too.

 

That said, yes, The Browns should have defeated the Bengals and didn't so as Romeo Crenell would say "That's life in the NFL." And if Cleveland has an offseason like they had last year and stay relatively injury-free, they can easily have 12 wins next year.
