Shaving

Recommended Posts

So, basically I hate to shave but I do not like to have facial hair. If I try shaving everyday, my face gets shredded by the razor. I've tried the wash with hot water, shave with cold water and even the other way around. The best strategy I've encountered so far is to wait about five days until my hair is at a decent length and then trim it with electric clippers and then shave using hot water.

Another thing I noticed is that when shaving everyday, for whatever reason, my shave isn't as close as when I do the above mentioned method.

Anybody have any pointers for shaving everyday?

I enjoyed shaving a lot when I first got any facial hair at all, at the age of 15. But ever since I became capable of completely colourless sideburns it has been a chore. I try and shave atleast once every other day so as to not let myself get into that state again.

The straight razor is the way to go. I've gotten one done at a barber shop the last time I was hime and I didn't feel any stubble in five days. I've been using a Mach 5 and it's nowhere near a smooth shave like a straight razor.

One of the benefits of all your hair falling out is not having to shave. I havent used a razor in forever. I got a Mach 3 in the mail from Gilette when I turned 18 and got maybe 2 weeks of use out if it before my hair started falling out and stopped growing, and that was 2000. I still have that Mach 3 floating around here somewhere, and I used it a couple more times since, like for shaving off my eyebrows after they fell out.

Dude. A straight razor takes work to get good at and I'd really suggest people not go right from a disposable to that. You'll cut up your face.

Oh, just read a pamphlet. People did it before they invented disposable razors.

Well technically it was straight razor -> safety razor -> disposable.

Fair enough, but it's still not that hard.

I initially got a straight razor for self mutilation, but one day I thought "Say, I should shave with this." Sure, I cut myself a little, but I cut myself when I was first learning to shave with regular razors too. No jugular nicks.

I don't use it anymore, because I like a little stubble by mid-afternoon if I shave in the morning. Sexy.

Damn you Gilette. I never got one when I turned 18, but I know of a lot of people who did.

I wanna get a straight razor, but $300 bucks for a set is damn expensive.

I don't have to shave all that much due to the fact I have the facial hair growth of a 12 year old girl.

But it is a chore when I do have to do it.

I keep a goatee so I shave every other day. Sometimes every other two days. Hot water, Edge shave gel, shave, cold water splash. I don't like after shave lotion so the cold water works just fine. I find it to be a bigger chore to keep the goatee trim.

I got a Gillette Fusion in the mail a few months ago and I love the thing. Five blades gets a close and smooth shave. The replacement blades are a bit expensive but they last a while so it's worth it in the long run.

I recently switched to Nivea for men face wash, shaving cream, and after shave lotion. I got the sensitive because sometimes I have to shave daily (I hate it), and I got bad razor burn on parts of my neck when doing so. I have been thoroughly pleased so far. I have aldo been wanting to go the straight razor route. I have the razor from my brother, but I need the leather strop, and I want to get a badger hair brush to apply the cream.

How often do you have to shave in order to ensure that no facial hair is visible? I'm sure you've been over this before.

So it's time for the yearly "how do u shave" thread, eh? At least it's better than the yearly "how do u shave ur pubes" one.

I just use a plain ol' Mach 3, with ordinary white shaving cream, sensitive skin kind, since I'm fairly vulnerable to razor burn on my neck. Let me say here and now, fuck those assholes who figured out they could charge people ten frigging bucks for four replacement razors, because it jacks the price way up beyond other brands. I've tried several different electric razors before, and it seemed like they always yanked on the hairs and never gave anything resembling a clean cut. Something like a straight razor is out of the question, I'm just not that careful. Also, a couple of inconveniently placed moles make it a ginger enough experience just shaving with a disposable safety.

My facial hair for whatever reason grows pretty slow and somewhat thin, so that I only have to shave every other day. It literally takes a day and a half for stubble to show. The bad part is, even at 28 years old I still can't grow a decent beard or mustache. I look like a middle schooler who goes without shaving for weeks to and fake the illusion of having real facial hair. I understand I'm somewhat blessed in having to shave only half as much for the same results, but it's still just annoying not to be able to grow a beard if I wanted.

I have perpetual intentional stubble. I use the pop-up edger on my electric to trim it all down to part of a millimeter every three or four days or so.

I'll shave about every 5 days to a week or so, but by then I'm pretty scruffy looking. I really hate shaving and I have pretty sensitive skin, so thats mostly why I don't shave more often. Still, I have found I have a hell of a lot less irritation around my neck since I've been using the Fusion razor. Blades are expensive as fuck, but it was a worth while investment for me.

I shave about every 7 to 10 days. I can't grow much facial hair and it doesn't help the fact that there's this weird patch of skin near my chin that can't grow any facial hair. Ah well- at least I can grow some pretty cool sideburns. I use a Gillette Mach 3 and it wipes the peach fuzz I got off my face and makes my face as smooth as a baby's buttocks.

One of the main reasons I have a full beard is my complete loathing of all things shaving. My girlfriend asked me to shave it a few weeks ago and it was horrible. Generally, I just use a cheap $20 mustache and beard trimmer to keep it clean and shave some of my neck.

I stopped trimming/shaving my nether regions. Just becomes too much of a hassle, and my girl doesn't mind my mane because it's not that thick. If it gets outta control, though, it's down to a #2, and that's as low as I'll go.

When it comes to my face, I do a 3/8" attachment (a #3) on my clippers for my sideburns, don't touch my goatee, and then use a Mach 3 every few days on the rest of my face. I share Jingus's problem of not being able to grow much facial hair very fast, it's very "patchy," and goes from just above my collarbone to less than inch below my eyes. It's pretty ridiculous when I haven't shaved in a week and a half, because it looks horrible, but there's a large area it vaguely covers. That's primarily why I shave: because it looks stupid. If it grew in thick, I'd have had a full beard since high school. But alas, it sucks, so I keep what does grow in halfway decent and skin the rest.
