Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 Basically what happened is that Favre called the Packers bluff that they would take him back before sending him to Minnesota and lost. All this shows is that he had no interest in coming back to Green Bay in the first place. He's now walked away twice on them.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 I'm so sick of this story. At least the Michael Vick saga was interesting and warranted the amount of coverage it got. I don't dislike ESPN as much as most here do, but they've made this uninteresting story even more monotonous with the constant coverage and letting it spill it non-football related programs. Who in the world cares what Steve Phillips and Orel Hersheiser have to say about the Favre situation?

naiwf 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 This Mike McCarthy press conference makes Brett sound like a scorned lover. How many questions are they going to ask him before they realize he's not going to share any info worth knowing? What a complete and utter waste of time. RedJed 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 Honestly, the only reason I'd like to see Favre come to the Vikes is because of the dynamic of the season's opening week matchup of the Vikings v. Packers in Green Bay. What makes that game interesting, besides the fact that Favre would be against the Pack right away in week one, consider that his jersey is to be retired that night as well. Huzzah!

Angle-plex 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 I've hated Favre forever, but I can't get enough of him now. All of this chaos he is causing is tremendous and makes me want to hear more about him.
BruteSquad_BRODY 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 In all seriousness, trade him already. they'd love to. Farve has veto power
jimmy no nose 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 I didn't give this whole situation a great deal of thought, but I just had this pop into my head. Obviously Favre wants to go to Minnesota or Chicago and Green Bay understandably don't want to trade within the division. What prevents a team outside the division from making a deal for Favre for whatever the asking price is then trying to swing him to the Vikings or Bears for more than what they gave up? What's the current word on what the asking price would be for a team outside the division?
naiwf 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 ESPN Breaking News: The Brett Favre travelling road show is likely headed to Tampa Bay with an official announcement possibly coming later today according to the Tampa Tribune.
Kinetic 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 I would imagine that the Bucs or Jets could get him for next to nothing, as the Packers have no leverage in any negotiation. They need to get rid of Favre more than anyone else needs to acquire him. A bonus to the Bucs trading for Favre is that goddamn NBC wouldn't dare flex us out of our (I think) two Sunday nighters this season.

Kinetic 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 So the trade is likely to be finalized in the next 24 hours, which gives Favre time to change his mind two or three times. I'm not going to get too excited until they put this thing in writing.

Well, they can only flex the back half of the Sunday night schedule, but I would definitely imagine that the GB-TB game would be in FOX's national 4:15 slot. I might actually be able to watch my team at home more than a few times a year. All hail Lord Favre.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted August 6, 2008 I'm too lazy/cheap to get a new Packers jersey, so I'm just going to tape "LAK" over the AVR in Favre. HAHA GET IT, and such. EDIT: I also have this weird vibe that Favre's going to get traded to the Bucs, only for the Bucs to fleece the Vikes in compensation for trading Favre out to them. Man, that would be a hell of a killer backstabbing for the Packers.
Kinetic 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 So the trade is likely to be finalized in the next 24 hours, which gives Favre time to change his mind two or three times. I'm not going to get too excited until they put this thing in writing. See? But I guess we should know by tomorrow, as Favre wants to get this over with and get into training camp somewhere. The Jets are apparently offering Green Bay a better deal, but Favre somewhat justifiably doesn't want to play for them. I've been getting somewhat irked by all of the articles referring to the NFC South as "weak" or "diluted" (because the NFC North/West/AFC East/AFC West aren't?) but, yeah, he'd obviously have a better shot at winning the South with Tampa than he would at winning the AFC East with the Jets. So...barring an unexpected defection to the CFL or a decision to pursue Wrangler League tractor racing full-time, I'm guessing Favre will be a Buc sometime prior to our bye week. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 I wonder why the Jets didn't get him, that would've made this story even bigger Because at this stage, the Bucs are more of a contender then the Jets... Sure the NY media would bust a load with Brett Favre coming there, but that's not what Favre wants, he wants to win. And with Tampa he has the best chance at doing that. Plus he doesn't have to play in a hard divison like the Jets.
The Niggardly King 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 If he actually plays for Tampa this year, be happy with 7 wins Bucs fans. You have a better chance with Garcia.

Sure, you've got the two Patriot ass-kickings to look forward to, but Miami is terrible, and the Bills are pretty mediocre. Looking at the Jets' schedule, there's a lot of winnable games on there. Kinetic 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 Plus he doesn't have to play in a hard divison like the Jets. Who you crappin'? New England twice a year doesn't equal playing in a hard division. The Dolphins are a mess and the Bills are slightly above average at best. The AFC East might be the weakest division in the league. If he actually plays for Tampa this year, be happy with 7 wins Bucs fans. You have a better chance with Garcia. Jeff Garcia came into camp out of shape and bitching about his contract. I'd take my chances with wishy-washy, over-the-hill Brett Favre before hitching the team's wagon to injury-prone latent homosexual Jeff Garcia.

The AFC is the tougher league in general, and has dominated in the Super Bowl this decade. I think Favre would rather take his chances against Rodgers, Romo and Eli in the playoffs than Brady or Peyton. I just want to see him in Tampa to see how many interceptions the change in climate will cause. Can he throw 30 interceptions? Yes, I think he can.
