Guest Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Anyway, this was my planned third round pick, so I'll go here now. Proven playoff performer. * All-NBA Third Team twice (1990, '91) * NBA All-Rookie Team (1983) as he averaged 13.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game * NBA Finals MVP (1988) * NBA All-Star seven times (1986-92) * All-time record for highest field goal percentage in a five-game series (.721) (1985) * Highest field goal percentage for a rookie in Laker history (.579) * Averaged 17.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg and 3.0 apg in 926 career games; averaged 21.1 ppg and 5.2 rpg in 143 career playoff games * In Laker history, he is fifth in scoring (16,320 points), second in steals (1,041) and sixth in field goal percentage (.521) * Retired as the 54th leading scorer in NBA history with 16,320 points * One of seven Lakers to have his number (#42) retired * NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time team (1996) That's right. Big Game James I am not Worthy.
MFer 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Well, after a long-ass wait, I'm gonna get my PG here and select... Jason Kidd 1995 Co-Rookie of the Year 9-time NBA All-Star 5-time All-NBA 1st Team 1-time All-NBA 2nd Team 4-time All-NBA Defensive 1st Team 5-time All-NBA Defensive 2nd Team 100 career triple-doubles Things get a little interesting now. I need a center and a lot of the great ones have gone off the board already. My next pick had a brief career, but since we're talking about players in their prime... Bill Walton 1978 NBA MVP 1977 NBA Finals MVP 1986 NBA Sixth Man of the Year 2-time NBA All-Star 1978 All-NBA 1st Team 1977 All-NBA 2nd Team 2-time All-NBA Defensive 1st Team Named to NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Nice picks. I seriously thought about Walton over Reed but wanted more of a rebounder/defender to compliment Bird, and Kidd would have likely been my next pick if he was still on the board. I said I was going to bed hours ago, but I seriously am now, damned insomnia. If VX makes his next pick I'll try and get mine in tommorow morning/early afternoon. Guest Report post Posted May 10, 2008 I was afraid to take Walton, but was thinking about it. Thanks for getting rid of any doubt. After much deliberation, mainly consisting of how well my last pick and this one would play together, I've made my decision. I thought, hey, the Showtime Lakers played well with a big man who couldn't run the court very well at the latter stages of his career, so I could get away with picking a guy who wasn't the best at getting up and down the floor. After all, I've got the best point guard in the history of the game. * Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (1999) * 1x All-NBA First Team (1987) * 2x NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award (1984, 1985) * 3x NBA All-Defensive First Team (1986, 1987, 1988) * 3x NBA All-Defensive Second Team (1983, 1989, 1990) * NBA All-Rookie Team (1981) * 7x NBA All-Star (1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991) * NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team (1996) Kevin McHale Ain't no pussies gonna be on my basketball team. Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 It was 909 with the pick, not VX! I'm still here McHale is a great pick, I thought about him too, but I didn't want to do the Bird-McHale thing, no fun in that anyway This might be a 'controversial' pick. I'd love to hear some y'alls on it. This guy was one of the 5 best players in the league in his time, incredible all around player, bonafide superstar, hall of fame bound, could do just about anything on the court until injuries cut his career short. There's a lot more conventional picks on the board, bigger names, bigger scorers, including a few of his contemporaries, but for the type of team I'm building he's exactly the player I want. I've got Bird at the 3, so Hill is slotting at the 2 as a point-forward type
MFer 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Fuck man...I was hoping to take him next time my picks came around
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 I was hoping that Hill might slip through the cracks so i could grab him later. An elite-level talent before the injury, if i didn't take Havlicek last round i probably would have looked to draft Hill this round as well.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Alright, now to round out my strong trio of awesomeness, THE HUMAN HIGHLIGHT FILM DOMINIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIQUE WILKIIIIIIINS, SF That would cover the three best players on my team for scoring. KAJ for the inside/post moves, Reggie for the outside/perimeter shots, and Dominique who could take it inside or shoot, hell he was a great 2 guard as well, if a bit big for that role. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Yeah, I knew Worthy wasn't getting back to me with two Laker fans in front of me picking twice each. And McHale was my backup, so I'm going to have to think about this for awhile.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 All right, here we go: Elvin Hayes, PF Career highlights: Elected to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (1990) NBA champion (1978) 3x All-NBA First Team (1975, '77, '79) 3x All-NBA Second Team (1973, '74, '76) 2x All-Defensive Second Team (1974, '75) All-Rookie Team (1969) 12-time All-Star (1969-80) One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History ('96). I think this is shaping up nicely. Hayes provides a good second scoring option to Wilt, and plays amazing defence.

Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Team chemistry is the biggest question with this pick, it's safe to say Robertson and Havlicek never played with anyone quite like this before. Possibly a huge reach given some of the players still available. Relentless defender, monster rebounder, crossdresser... Dennis Rodman
AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 ALLEN IVERSON 7 All-NBA Selections (including 3 first teams) 9 Time All-Star 22,988 career points scored (25th all-time) 27.7 career ppg (3rd all-time) 5,228 career assists (42nd all-time) 2000-01 NBA Most Valuable Player Named one of the "Next Ten Greatest Players" by TNT on the NBA's 60th anniversary; he was not playing at the time of the original "50" list. This was kind of iffy for me at first, but I believe Russell is enough of a team leader that he'd be able to keep Iverson's perceived attitude problems in check, plus having Iverson now gives me an inside-outside scoring threat with Pettit and also gives me one of the top offensive and defensive players (Russell) in league history. Iverson is a competent defender in his own right, so this also gives me a great balance on both ends of the floor. Although his shooting percentage is unremarkable, he does have the advantage of having two of the greatest rebounders in history on his squad, so if he misses there is at least a decent chance someone will get the offensive board. His ability to play both guard positions allows me the opportunity to either keep him at shooting guard, or move him to the point, depending on who is available by the time my next pick comes around. That makes three picks and three MVP's, with eight awards total between the three of them!

TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Since I need scoring and passing to compliment Duncan and Drexler: Nate 'Tiny' Archibald Archibald was an All-NBA First Team selection three times (1973, 1975, 1976) and an All-NBA Second Team selection two times (1972, 1981). A seven-time NBA All-Star Game selection (1973, 1974, 1975 , 1976, 1980, 1981, and 1982), he was named the 1981 All-Star Game MVP. Archibald led the NBA in free throws made three times and free throw attempts twice. He competed in 876 professional games, scored 16,841 points (18.8 points per game), and dished out 6,476 assists. He was named to the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time team. Nate Archibald was inducted to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 11, 2008 I'm mulling over the teams made so far, and damn.. CW has the team with most likely the least amount of team chemistry there could be. Lebron, K-Malone, and Rick Barry are all proven ballhogs/egotrips/famously difficult to get along with. Well maybe not so much `Bron, but the other two definitely. Lots of talent, but as a team together? Yikes. I think I've got a hell of an injury prone team, though, so that's my downfall thus far.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2008 Eh, I'm not going to really take injuries into account when judging teams, that overcomplicates everything. I'm looking at these players as if they were at the peak of their abilities.

Lots of talent, but as a team together? Yikes. No one got more from his team than Rick Barry; he led some of the greatest upsets ever. And he was no worse than Michael Jordan who punched teammates in practice. I never saw Karl Malone as being detrimental to his team. Other teams might have hated him cause he threw elbows and played a little dirty, but he was a team player in Utah.

Gert T 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2008 Sorry about the delay, didn't think this many picks would roll out this quickly: Wes Unseld/F/C I like this pick mostly because Unseld was more concerned about grabbing rebounds and playing D, and that there will be scorers in later rounds.
