HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 It was fun while it lasted.
Zetterberg is God Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 After postponing the 10/11 PPV, Michael Cohen, the COO of Affliction told MMArated.com that there will be a public announcement made and "this annnouncement is truly going to change the world of mixed martial arts." He said this announcement would be made within two weeks. "I assure you, that after the press announcement things will change as far as the UFC is concerned."

Mik Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 The announcement is being made on an HBO boxing PPV...leading some to speculate that they are going to be on HBO. Cohen went on to tell Chiapetta that, “Unlike others who call for a press conference for groundbreaking MMA news, the Affliction announcement will truly change the sport, and not through a toy deal.” Chiapetta also is reporting that WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko will be appearing on the second Affliction show, although a quote from Atencio confirming the news no longer appears in the original report. If Fedor has been secured for Jan. 17, it likely means that he will forgo an opportunity to compete on New Year’s Eve in Japan.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 "Not a toy deal" Hahahaha. They should've thrown in "And no, Tom Atencio is not leaving the t-shirt business to focus on MMA full-time."
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 According to Meltzer, the big announcement is an affiliation with Golden Boy Promotions. GBP will help with production of Affliction shows.
Mik Posted September 13, 2008 Report Posted September 13, 2008 The announcement is official. The PPVs are going to be half boxing/half MMA. I don't know what I think.
Youth N Asia Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 Well you'll get a 30 minute boxing match, a 8 minute MMA match, another half hour of boxing, and then Fedor kills a guy in 2 minutes...don't care for this myself

Lord of The Curry Posted September 14, 2008 Author Report Posted September 14, 2008 Fuck this. I've never paid for boxing and goddamn if I'm starting now. Looks like this viewing will take place at a bar.
Youth N Asia Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 And you'll know when to make your poop break
Lord of The Curry Posted September 14, 2008 Author Report Posted September 14, 2008 Did you just say poop break?
Lord of The Curry Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 K. Just checkin'.
Mik Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I've decided that it would have to be the greatest MMA card of all time for me to probably even consider buying one of these. I'm just not a boxing fan. The crossover audience is probably a lot less then what they are banking on.
Guest Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I don't order Golden Girl Promotions PPV's anymore. And I ain't about to start again.
NoCalMike Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Well it also depends what quality of boxing matches are being put on the card.
RavishingRickRudo Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 That's true. If it's the quality of boxing that allows for takedowns, submissions, kicks, knees, elbows, ground and pound, and doesn't include boxing gloves or a boxing ring or boxing officials, then it should be alright.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Well it also depends what quality of boxing matches are being put on the card. I agree with this statement as a boxing fan.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 10, 2008 Author Report Posted October 10, 2008 This shows name has now been changed from Day of Reckoning to Affliction Presents: Josh Barnett, Go Fuck Yourself. Wanna know why? Fedor vs Arlovski became official for this show today, early reports put it around end of January.
AboveAverage484 Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 Josh should have knocked a fat guy out and then he could have had the shot.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 11, 2008 Author Report Posted October 11, 2008 After seeing Nelson handle Andrei pretty easily on the ground he's all kinds of fucked with Fedor if it hits the mat. Hail Mary KO is his only chance.

Your Paragon of Virtue Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Rumour had Cotto vs. Margarito II for this card. I would have been more interested in that than any MMA fight Affliction could put together.

Lei Tong Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 I'll admit, I should have seen that one coming.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 This is probably a whole thread in and of itself, but why is there such a dislike for boxing from some of the MMA fans here? I enjoy both. From a business standpoint, this can't be too bad of an idea. Figure how much money boxing makes (a shitload) and introduce those fans to another form of combat. It's not like there's a shortage of time to put on more fights on a boxing PPV.
