Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2008 No real shocks here. I didn't expect The Haunting of Molly Hartley to do as well as it did. Not a huge number, but the movie looks awful
jimmy no nose 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2008 Halloween being Friday was pretty bad for everyone's numbers, but is Zack and Miri Make a Porno considered a huge disappointment at 10.6? It did slightly better than the Clerks 2 $10 million opening, and just missed the Jay and Silent Bob $11 million weekend, but they had to be expecting more, right? Jingus 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2008 The less Kevin Smith-ish a Kevin Smith movie is, the more the studio promotes it, seems to be the rule of thumb.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2008 It's not being promoted as a Smith movie, so I wouldn't really compare it along those lines
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2008 I'd say Zach and Miri is a slight disappointment, but Halloween just killed everything.

HollywoodSpikeJenkins 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2008 Bob, how is Role Models looking next week?
DarKnight 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 That movie Role Models looks pretty bad. I think Paul Rudd should have his own starring movie, but being in one with Stiffler and McGlovin isn't going to help him any.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 That movie Role Models looks pretty bad. I think Paul Rudd should have his own starring movie, but being in one with Stiffler and McGlovin[sic] isn't going to help him any. Paul Rudd actually co-wrote it. It has an 86% rating at RottenTomatoes. I don't know about projections, but I feel it's going to be a tough weekend with Madagascar overwhelming everything and facing Week 2 of Porno. I think Soul Men should do decent biz b/c of Bernie Mac.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Role Models actually isn't so bad. It's got a very formulaic plot, you can pretty much predict everything that happens, but it's still farily entertaining throughout and Paul Rudd carries it quite well. fazzle 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 I'm just shocked at the total for HSM. I figured it was going to have a huge drop after it only pulled in *$1.7* on Friday. I realize most of the target audience for HSM was trick or treating instead, but, damn, from $1.7 on Friday to $8.3 on Saturday? Do you know when the last time a movie had a Friday to Saturday jump like that Bob?
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Isn't it just entirely possible some people thought Porno looked like complete crap and didn't want any part of it? I can see Porno doing great on DVD but having a very quick run in the theaters. The general public might be experiencing Apatow-like overkill and need a quick rest. IMO, End of Days is one of Arnold's best roles, and one of the most underrated Horror/Thriller films of the 90's. Gabriel Byrne is also great as "The Man". DarKnight 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Paul Rudd actually co-wrote it. It has an 86% rating at RottenTomatoes. Wow, I'm actually quite surprised its getting that good of reviews. IMO, End of Days is one of Arnold's best roles, and one of the most underrated Horror/Thriller films of the 90's. Gabriel Byrne is also great as "The Man". I refused to watch End of Days for years, but one night on Encore, they showed it, and I thought "what the hell, I might as well give it a chance", and I found it to be somewhat of a guilty pleasure, especially with the Vince Russo style swerves that you can see coming from a mile away. And yeah, I did find Gabriel Byrne's performance as the Devil to be pretty good.
