  1. Tim's punches are so slow, no wonder Arlovksi ate him alive. I would love Ludwig/Leben, despite the disparity in weight. Ludwig would annihilate him because Leben would be too stubborn to take it to the ground.
  2. Good defense by Assuerio, Sylvia threw a lot, but didn't really connect and his shots seemed to lack power.
  3. According to the Las Vegas State Athletic Commission, Royce can't wear his gi or ask for special rules. Props to Royce for taking the fight, but I think Matt can win this without even taking it to the ground. He is just way too powerful for Royce. I only see trouble for Matt if he gets in Royce's guard but I'm sure he'll be training to avoid that particular position since Royce is at his best there.
  4. I'd like to see Leben go toe to toe with Anderson Silva.
  5. Too bad PRIDE FC has all the good names while UFC has to borrow from Tough Man. Yeah, really. You know you have a good nickname when you are referred to as it more often thatn your real name; e.g. Rampage Jackson and Mirko Cro Cop. As for the long-term effects of kicks and knees to the head, you can be kicked and kneed in the head in standup. Wrestlers' deaths are more due to painkillers and drugs with a few exceptions (Andre, Owen, Dino Bravo, Yokozuna), while boxers are more from being in a sport where 95% of the blows land on the head.
  6. I'm gonna hit up the GZA show when he comes to Asheville next month. 15 bucks is a steal. Anybody heard his new album with DJ Muggs? A friend's gonna burn it for me, just wanted to hear some opinions on it from you other Wu-fans.
  7. Does everybody in the UFC have to have some lame ass nickname? "Natural" and "Iceman" are cool but Mike "Quick" Swick? Tim "Maine-iac Sylvia"? Either get more creative or don't use a nickname.
  8. Fuck elbows. If they keep the elbows, they should just allow head stomps and knees/kicks to head on the ground. I'm sure more guys have gone to the hospital for elbow cuts than from head stomps and the like.
  9. No way in hell would Sapp sign with UFC. He'd get paid chump change in UFC compared to what he makes for K-1. I expect the announcement to be something lame, like Snipes vs. Rogan, optimistically speaking however, I think it could also be a comeback fighter though I won't go out on a limb and guess who.
  10. I think this weekend was the worst officiating weekend I have ever seen. Inexcusable for Conference semifinals.
  11. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. So much for the vaunted Bears defense. I know this is only the first play but this could get ugly.
  12. This weekend's officiating was some of the worst I've ever seen on a playoff level. I'm really hoping for a Denver/Carolina Super Bowl; my favorite team against my home team.
  13. K-1 Top 5: 1. Schilt 2. Le Banner 3. Aerts 4. Bonjasky 5. Musashi
  14. I'm liking this. Denver matches up with Pittsburgh way better than Indianapolis.
  15. Forget all the haters, Denver is in the AFC championship game baby!!!
  16. Unfortunately most of the people here haven't been exposed to the wonders of Shooto. Brainwashed slaves of Dana White, arggggghhhh
  17. One of the more insane spots he did is on the Bret DVD. He suplexes Bret out of the ring, but hangs on and tumbles out with him. Must be seen to be believed.
  18. Here are the past winners and runners-up for PWI's Wrestler of the Year Award, with some comments. I'm only going back to 1985. Some strange selections to say the least. 2004: Chris Benoit 1. Randy Orton 2. Eddie Guerrero 3. A.J. Styles Didn't watch much wrestling from here back to '01, so I'll reserve my comments. 2003: Kurt Angle 1. Brock Lesnar 2. Triple H 3. A.J. Styles 2002: Brock Lesnar 1. Rob Van Dam 2. Triple H 3. The Undertaker 2001: Steve Austin 1. Kurt Angle 2. The Rock 3. Rob Van Dam 2000: The Rock 1. Triple H 2. Booker T 3. Kurt Angle Should have been Trips, probably one of the better groups of award winners, though. 1999: Steve Austin 1. The Rock 2. Sting 3. Taz Not too bad of a group, Foley should have been included instead of Sting or Taz. 1998: Steve Austin 1. Bill Goldberg 2. Diamond Dallas Page 3. The Rock No problem with Austin, Goldberg, or Rock, but DDP? Come on. 1997: Lex Luger 1. Steve Austin 2. The Undertaker 3. Diamond Dallas Page Yeah fucking right. Austin should have won and Bret should have been on here. 1996: The Giant 1. Shawn Michaels 2. Ric Flair 3. Ahmed Johnson Um, what the fuck. Probably one of the worst fields. Shawn definitely should have won this year. 1995: Diesel 1. Shawn Michaels 2. Sting 3. Hulk Hogan I'm not really bothered by this, except for the presence of Hogan. 1994: Hulk Hogan 1. Bret Hart 2. Razor Ramon 3. Ric Flair I can hear the "bullshit" chants from 1994 on this one. Bret did way more, for 6 more months than Hogan at that. 1993: Big Van Vader 1. Bret Hart 2. Shawn Michaels 3. Yokozuna Not too bad at all. Replace Yoko with Sting and we have a great field. 1992: Ric Flair 1. Ron Simmons 2. Rick Rude 3. Bret Hart I'm liking this, but what in the hell is Ron Simmons doing there? Replace him with Savage and this would be a good year. 1991: Hulk Hogan 1. Lex Luger 2. Bret Hart 3. Sting This is where it gets hard to judge these things, as we slowly progress back in time before the internet. I guess Hogan deserves this. Flair was inactive during the middle part of the year so I can understand his absence. 1990: Sting 1. Ultimate Warrior 2. Hulk Hogan 3. Lex Luger Get rid of Luger and put Flair in at 2nd runner-up, drop Hogan to 4th. Hennig would be a sleeper choice to throw on here. 1989: Ric Flair 1. Hulk Hogan 2. Lex Luger 3. Rick Steamboat I like this okay, although I think Luger must have paid off PWI for as many times as he's made it on here. Still, Luger was less of a slug at this point than he was later, so I'm okay with this, just drop him and Hogan and move Steamer to 1st runner-up. 1988: Randy Savage 1. Jerry Lawler 2. Lex Luger 3. Ric Flair What is Lawler doing on here? I don't recall much of Lawler's stuff being televised outside of Memphis, so how he would make 1st runner-up on such a national poll is beyond me. 1987: Hulk Hogan 1. Ric Flair 2. Randy Savage 3. Steve Williams Not too bad. 1986: Ric Flair 1. Hulk Hogan 2. Randy Savage 3. Nikita Koloff No major problems with this. 1985: Ric Flair 1. Hulk Hogan 2. Rick Martel 3. Sgt. Slaughter Bet Martel being on here is a surprise to some people, same for Slaughter. This was a bit before my time so I'll reserve judgment. Thanks for reading.
  19. You know he subbed Randy Couture right?
  20. The Arona fight was VERY close, a lot of people think Mezger got robbed. Minotoro fight would have been a draw in any other promotion. I think he had good strikes, he just lacked the power. His kicks in particular were of a more TKD style as Lei already mentioned, rather than a powerful Muay Thai style kick.
  21. Dead Alive is almost universally considered as the goriest horror film of all time, does Hostel top that?
  22. I think there are three matches that would more than likely be on here: vs. Sting at CotC I vs. Savage from WM VIII vs. Vader from Starrcade
  23. Yeah, what the fuck is that shit about? Pittman should be thrown out of the game, he threw a punch.
  24. This news saddens me. Of course Saku will want to be in it. He fights a true middleweight for the first time in more than two years and, surprise surprise, he dominates and wins. The only thing I worry about is his striking. As long as he is fighting around 185 he will not have the power problems that he had against Arona and other LHW's. Time is ticking no matter what, though.
  25. I just think if Carolina can guard the perimeter and get Hansbrough going then they will have a decent to good shot of beating Duke. But then again, if it was that easy, Duke wouldn't be undefeated.
