I can't believe I had to miss the first half of Dallas-San Antonio for THIS game in the late afternoon slot.

WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot

I've GOTTA have a clip of this. -
My predictions: EAST: Detroit over Cleveland in 5 (figure LeBron and the James Gang can get at least one out of the Pistons if the Bucks could do it) Miami over New Jersey in 6 WEST: Dallas over San Antonio in 7 (this is my upset special in the semis) Suns over Clippers in 7 (this looks like a repeat of Suns-Lakers to me)

I just have to say that I get better sports coverage and analysis on this message board than I find nearly anywhere else. Just felt like mentioning it.

Nice.

Not surprised the Suns won in a blow out even though I thought Kobe might make it closer. As I said two days ago, the Lakers had to win Game 6 because that was in effect their Game 7 because I just didn't see Phoenix losing at home. That said, though, I surely didn't expect the Lakers to lose this game by 20+ pts. I think the Clippers series will be much like this one with the Clippers trying to exploit the inside game. I think that series will end up going 7 as well with the Suns pulling out but then they'll have nothing in the tank for the winner of the San Antonio/Dallas series. Overall, though, a good first round to the playoffs. I can't remember when I enjoyed this much NBA playoff action in a long, long time.

Well from the looks of things it looks like the new ECW will be like the Hardcore days of the Attitude WWF with lots of garbage wrestling because I doubt they'll be chokeslamming people through stacked tables or having scaffold matches.

That Arenas three-pointer seemed to take forever to get in the basket. Sorta cool to see it was on the right line in mid-air though and then drop. I knew this game wouldn't disappoint.

Yea Jefferson doing the LA Purchase keeps him off of the bad list entirely. Much of Jefferson's legacy comes in his pre-presidential years than when he actually took office but his election was crucial to the presidency because it showed that the country would practice what it preached by having a peaceful transfer of power from the Federalists to the Democratic-Republicans. -
I agree. Edmonton was the 8th seed and defeated Detroit who was the #1 seed. Therefore, Edmonton has earned the right to play in the bracket that was initially set up for Detroit because they usurped the spot of the #1 seed. I understand the arguement about regular season performance and am sympathetic to it but I always just see the regular season as a way to set up seeds for the playoffs in the first place. I'd support the elimination of divisions entirely and just have teams seeded top to bottom in their conference or at least get rid of the rule that says the top 3 seeds have to be the division champions. I think that is ridiculous. Also, I think a rule should be instituted where if you have a losing record then you shouldn't be allowed to make the playoffs and have those holes in one side of the bracket be filled in by teams in the other conference who might have had winning records but couldn't qualify for the playoffs due to their conference. I think this "transferring" of teams happens in the AHL if I'm not mistaken and I thought it was a pretty interesting formula. I mean hell, if you have a losing record you shouldn't be in the playoffs period and if people didn't support the transfer rule then just give some of the top seeds a bye through the first round but that'll never happen due to the league wanting tons of revenue from these games. However, that would really benefit the top seed in the conference if they didn't have to get beat up in the first round.

I'm not justifying genocide. I'm just saying that Jackson is usually seen as historically significant in the textbooks because of ushering in a larger share of democracy which the writers believe trump his battles with the Bank of the U.S., his defiance of the Supreme Court, and his genocide of Native Americans. -

Yea, Jackson was nuts but he was seen as the first "common man" president and sort of ushered in U.S. democracy as it is today so that usually gets him a pass off of the worst list. I actually forgot some stuff about Harding like civil rights (although there is a historical rumor that he had black heritage) but I'm still iffy on his policies because I haven't read a lot about him in many, many years. Someone who should be in the top 5 is Jimmy Carter. Sure, he had the foreign policy based on human rights that was very friendly to the world and he got Israel & Egypt to agree to peace but the guy was just out of his element as president. In fact, Carter has done more outside of the White House than he ever did inside of it. High oil prices, a malaise hanging over the American people, the Iranian hostage crisis, etc. The guy had some good ideas and meant well but he just tried to micromanage everything when he really didn't know how to manage it (unlike Clinton who used the same model). I don't necessarily see him as a top 3 worst guy but maybe a 5. -
One of the big differences is that I am pretty sure Seattle had homecourt in game 7. They won like 64, 65 games that year so I am sure of it. Phoenix has homecourt in game 7 and forced game 7 by winning on the road in game 6. That is true. I'm not saying the two series are totally similar. I'm just saying that the Suns comeback from the 3-1 deficit made me think about that series ten years ago. Major props to Kobe and Nash in this game. Kobe for the pts. and Nash for the minutes, that guy is a machine in this series by playing 45+ minutes tonight. Makes me wonder if he'll have anything left in the tank if the Suns happen to win Game 7. Clippers have to be licking their chops right now...
-
Supporting the Suns through this series has reminded me of my support for my Utah Jazz in the 1996 Western Conference Final against the Seattle SuperSonics when we were down 3-1 and forced a Game 7 that we lost in a heartbreaker. I hope this time there's a different ending.
-
Just a friggin' amazing game. Phoenix gave this game everything they had and pulled out all the stops necessary to win while Kobe threw everything he had to try to close out this series. I'm not sure what to expect for Game 7 but I've always said that if the Suns could force a Game 7 they would win this series since this was essentially a Game 7 situation for the Lakers tonight. If the Suns play like they have in Games 5 and 6 then they should win this series. However, if the Lakers can exploit their size advantage more in the next game anything is possible. Big props to both teams for putting on a helluva game and for contesting one helluva series.

Overtime baby. However, the Suns are 1-5 this season in OT according to the TNT stat chart so still not a good sign....

Damn, I swear this is the best basketball game I've ever seen.

Yea I remember that confusing me when I watched the tape of the event from my local video store. Hogan is like "his arm is fine brother" and then Luger beats Savage in less than three minutes with an armbar. Guess that's WCW booking for you though.
-
Great read, thanks for posting. March of 1995 was the time I got into wrestling as I was in the third grade. Very interesting about the World War III battle royal and having the original booking plan equal a Sting victory. As a mark I thought that the big guns going in were Sting, Hogan, and Flair and didn't even give second thought to Savage winning. Boy was I surprised on Nitro when I found out he won. Can't help but wonder what the booking plans were for Sting after he won the battle royal. Possibly a program with Hogan?

I'd actually rank Buchanan as #1 because his incompetence led the country into the friggin' Civil War. Then again, I guess you can debate whether or not he was totally responsible since the compromise list of presidential choices since the Compromise of 1820 basically took the legs off of most presidents and made them ineffective. I think Harding deserves to be put up there due to the fact that his administration was so friggin' corrupt. You had the Teapot Dome scandal as well as numerous affairs he had with other women (leading some historians to believe that his wife poisoned him). If he was president today the country would tear him apart but I guess in the 1920s you didn't have a ravenous press core following you anywhere so you could get away with what you wanted. It's hard to judge Bush's current place in history at the moment because of the harsh political climate we're in. After all, everyone wanted to kill Reagan too but after two decades people can step back and make some fair judgements of his administration both good and bad. Also, was LBJ THAT bad? I mean at least with him we got the 1964 Civil Rights Act, 1965 Voter Rights Act, Medicare, and Medicaid. I mean Vietnam was a mess but that shouldn't overshadow everything much like Watergate shouldn't overshadow Nixon's foreign policy victories with China. -
This is why I don't see the ECW promotion working out because the second it starts to get better reaction than the WWE product Stephanie will throw a hissy fit and they'll either abort the project or make it look like crap (which they might do at the outset if they make them wrestle WWE style and force the promotion to use WWE production values).

I forgot to add how hard I laughed last night when in the post-game wrapup Charles Barkley was talking about how the Lakers don't want Bell suspended so they can make the crowd angry and then he went on a tangent about stupid fans who have no time on their hands already making signs to bring to the game.

Smackdown Spoilers for the 5/5 Airing

Half the time when I watch WWE tag action today I feel like I'm watching a bunch of Lethal Lottery tag matches. -
I just don't see how this ECW brand is going to succeed if, as Meltzer indicated in the Observer, that WWE will pull up guys who get over in ECW. That might create some continuity problems with booking, no?
