You know what's hilarious? I flat out turned off UK vs. Tennessee at the half when it was 24-7 (went to get food, then ate dinner). Figured it was just the old typical Vols stomping of UK, along with the vast majority of the other 22 in a row. Then I was watching ESPN just now and they said "Tennessee won today...in 4 OTs." I was like WTF? Doesn't really matter now that LSU lost though. I was hoping to see Georgia beat LSU, but since LSU already lost Tennessee might as well get their moment in the sun. And get stomped. Speaking of getting stomped, I am highly amused that WVU is just assraping UConn beyond recognition today. Let's see you try a fake fair catch now, bitch!

You know something about Illinois I just now remembered? Do you realize that if they had simply beaten IOWA they would have won the Big 10? Talk about a costly loss. Not only did it cost the Illini the Big 10 it likely also cost them any sort of BCS at large bid.

WWE 24/7 Discussion Thread - November 2007

On that note I haven't had any problems recording anything on 24/7. Just recorded Survivor Series 95 last week and it was fine. -
Batista vs. Hogan would not be pretty. I guess they could do Cena vs. Hogan and have it get by on bluff and bravado alone, or maybe the car wreck that would be Austin vs. Hogan. Let me clarify what I said earlier about old school WWF. From watching 24/7 I can safely say old AWA, NWA Crockett, World Class....all that stuff is better than the WWF stuff from the same time period. As far as the WWF creating stars, yes Sammartino was The Man. But Morales wasn't shit from what I've seen of his work, and we all know Backlund was a good wrestler but had zero charisma until he was well over 40 (and Backlund had tanked business by 1982). Watch an old WWF show from the 1970s and likely the only decent stuff on it is if they brought in guys like Dusty Rhodes, Harley Race, Mascaras, various Japanese dudes like Fujinami or Tiger Mask, etc. The WWF's actual roster sucked. The WWF has been good at taking guys who had talent but weren't being used properly and giving them a bigger push. But actually creating the talent?

Yeah, I don't think some here grasp what this angle is trying to say. Edge likely doesn't really give a damn about her, it's just that he's using her to get a title shot and regain the world title. It wouldn't shock me if they actually had him come out next week and reveal it was all a ruse and that he was just using Vicki. The odd part is them trying to act like this is something like Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. I doubt there's really all that much age difference between Edge and Vicki, maybe 5 years. -
Missouri has been pretty badass this year actually. I haven't really seen much of them but take a look at their results. We know Missouri beat the same Illini that beat OSU, so that's a solid win. Sure, they lost to OU but that was on the road (which Kansas didn't have to do). Other than that Mizzou has beaten the piss out of everyone, including beating the crap out of A & M and TX Tech. Kansas? Well, for the most part very impressive but they did just beat KSU by 6 points. Beat A & M 19-11, though I don't think that one was ever in much doubt. Scraped past Colorado 19-14, while Mizzou beat them 55-10. In other words I'm thinking Missouri will beat Kansas tonight and likely by 2 TDs or so. Here are the conference ratings according to www.realtimerpi.com: 1. SEC, 56.43 2. Big East, 54.32 3. Big 12, 54.04 4. Big 10, 53.26 5. ACC, 52.57 6. Pac 10, 52.31 I can't believe I heard Kirk Herbstreit actually say "We are a Mizzou/Kansas loss and a WVU loss away from USC being in the title picture." How the hell could USC possibly be in any sort of title scene when they currently wouldn't even win the Pac 10 AND have a loss to #108 Stanford? Not to mention a bleh SOS of 53. Hell I would take a 2 loss LSU over them, or 2 loss UGA. OSU could still get into the title game with a loss by either the KU/Mizz winner in the Big 12 title game or WVU losing. But without that happening I see no way they can pass WVU and the Kansas/Missouri winner since OSU simply has no games left.

I think she is hot as hell and has certainly overcome a truly idiotic initial debut angle. Given how naturally bitchy she is on the mic and how easily she has taken to the aspects of wrestling I am amazed WWE didn't try to do anything with her.

There's just something about this Edge/Vicki stuff that is creepy. I noted earlier that there's a difference between good sleaze (Edge/Lita) and bad sleaze (tonight). I don't think anyone would care if Vicki found a new man in real life, but I can't say I particularly want to see her with Edge on TV. Sure, I was weirded out more by them kissing and all that than I was UT hitting her with the tombstone. But I've seen so much of that type of violence in ECW storylines from the past that it goes in one ear and out the other. -
I think McFadden may well have won the Heisman today. The difference between him and Tebow is this: Tebow is doing well on a team that is very good, but has underachieved a bit in my opinion. McFadden seems like he's the only thing keeping Arkansas from being a bottom tier SEC team. Yet again, what is with this bizarre bashing of WVU by the media? Who in their right mind would want to see boring as fuck OSU in a title game instead of Pat White and Steve Slaton? Further, provided WVU wins tomorrow that is another win over a top 25 team in UConn which can only aid WVU's resume. Cincy, Rutgers, and UConn would be wins roughly equal to OSU's biggest wins this year (Wisconsin, Michigan, Penn St.). And what was seemingly a ho hum squash with Miss St. is now a nice little OOC win for WVU. In other words there's really nothing so special about OSU this year to consider putting them ahead of WVU if WVU wins out.

Great. BYU beat U of L by 2 tonight so now I don't get to see my guys get trashed by UNC tomorrow in this Vegas tourney. It's maddening to see games like this one tonight because I know with Padgett and Palacios we would beat a journeyman team like BYU with no real difficulty.
-
Well at least the Colts managed to get somewhat back on track tonight. If they can get to being somewhat injured instead of decimated they might be able to win out. Might lose to Jacksonville, but that's about it. The one upsetting thing about Green Bay is that they don't seem to finish people off. Detroit sorta half ass got back in that game today, I recall Minnesota staying in one earlier, and the Bears came back to beat the Packers.
-
Yeah without that bizarre Stanford loss USC would likely be right in the thick of the national title scene. All the talk about ASU passing WVU was made into a moot point tonight.

I have to admit this wasn't one of my favorite Legends shows. Maybe it was the panel or the topic, I dunno. Is someone like Stu Hart really all that tough for taking trainees and stretching them to the point of being unconscious? -
It seems pretty hard for him to be WCW for life when by far his most well known work and gimmick was with the WWF from 1988-92.
-
That would be great if USA was in HD at all in my area. At least CW already is. The main thing I consider with WWE developmental is this: Historically WWE has tended to suck with developing their own guys. Take a look at a WWF show from the 70s and compare it to a typical NWA or AWA show. The WWF sucked in comparison. It really wasn't until they started really raiding the hell out of other promotions in the 1984-89 period that they got some actual workers worth a damn. In other words, developmental is something that goes against what WWE has always been about, which is namely taking guys from smaller feds and giving them a shot at the big time in NYC. It doesn't help that they are obsessed with making these new guys wrestle ONE particular style and thus all these green rookies do the same tedious 5 spots and can barely hold a match together. Thus when a Matt Sydal or Colt Cabana shows up in OVW and actually knows what he's doing that sort of guy stands out.

The part with Vicki being attacked by UT and tombstoned was really weird. It was almost like they were writing her off in the storyline right after doing a major angle with Edge. -

Good, good. The famed Raw with the ambulance angle is on now and I need to watch that one. Might check out that AWA thing as well but the Legends roundtable show is the first thing I wanna see. -
UCLA is going to win this but they still just do not rock my world at all. I just don't buy that boring as hell Ben Howland style as a recipe to win a national title. Teams need to be able to score more than 70 points to beat credible tourney opponents. By the way Memphis beat Ark St. and not Arkansas. Anyone else notice how bad Florida has been squashing these jobbers they've played? Maybe everyone wrote them off unjustly, but we'll see what they do against some actual teams. But hell they do play in the SEC, which is going to be all kinds of horrible this year. Florida may be the 2nd best team in it right now behind Tennessee.

It disturbs me that so many people have fond memories of that Masters of the Universe movie. I saw that when I was about 7-8 at the theater and even as a kid I thought it sucked ass. And I was the biggest He-Man fan back then....I had literally every toy they made. The He-Man and She-Ra movie was better than the Lundgren piece of shit.

I really like that Bret/Backlund match, it's a very different sort of match from that time period. Having seen that PPV recently I don't know what the deal was with Bigelow and Bundy surviving in the Luger match. Luger was just so buried by this point. I guess since Bigelow was moving into the LT feud and Bundy was going to feud with UT for WM in 1995 that they wanted to keep them strong? -
Okay it's a stretch to say Cena had great matches with Khali. That said, I've mostly hated Shawn Michaels since he beat my boy Bulldog for the IC title in Nov. 1992. A lot of teen guys watching wrestling in the 1990s disliked HBK, thought his act was queer as hell (the dancing, the Blue Oyster Bar leather...need I go on?). People on here badmouthed Jericho's so called "gay" outfit last night on Raw, but I didn't find it all that gay since I remember how Michaels used to look, haha. I've since grown out of that line of thinking and at least sorta enjoy his post 2002 work. At times I think he slips into self parody, like the Hogan 2005 match or this past Sunday vs. Orton. But a little bit of Michaels will go a long way with me. I didn't like either of those Cena matches for shit this year, found them overlong and ponderous. As in what was the story these guys were telling that required nearly an hour? Here is the difference to me between Hogan hulking up or Lawler pulling the strap and what Michaels does with the kip up. Hogan or Lawler often take very generalized beatdowns so they can get some adrenaline rushing and get pissed. I've seen Michaels flat out no sell specific work done to his back and things like that. And really truth be told throughout his career Shawn Michaels simply doesn't have a serious enough moveset to beat the guys he has beaten. He's beaten the likes of Sid, Vader, Nash....but honestly what high impact offense does he have to put such men down? It's not like Rob Van Dam for instance who has an arsenal of incredibly high impact moves that can put down a huge man. Shawn is just out there hitting a friggin superkick, which has always been a really lame finish (which anyone can see coming from a mile away). Hell, the recent storyline of the match with Orton was HBK himself admitting he had no credible offense, hence his laughably bad attempts at the Sharpshooter, Crossface, and Anklelock.

That Nasty Boys thing was a dark match and I did read that they were going to do that a week or so ago. I really hope the rest is phony though. There's such a thing as good sleaze angles (Edge/Lita) and really bad, borderline disturbing sleaze angles (Edge/Vicki). -
Oh I didn't mean to infer that UConn is remotely better than USC. I think USC would beat them home, away, or neutral unless they had massive injuries. But however much of a fraud as I think UConn is they are still 9-2 this year, ranked in the top 25, and according to some actually better than USC (www.realtimerpi.com has UConn #20 and USC #22). My point is that it's not like WVU is going to squash Syracuse this weekend while ASU plays a real team....when two teams are both playing ranked foes how can the lower ranked team pass the other? I can see that with Missouri beating Kansas and passing WVU, but that is a matchup of top 5 teams. Also, the Pac 10 may well be the worst major conference this year. USC is down, UCLA has been a flop, Cal has tanked after starting off hot, and Oregon now doesn't have Dixon for the rest of the season. Arizona St. is essentially the last man standing because they haven't screwed up. On that same realtime site the Pac 10 is listed as the #6 conference, weakest of the BCS leagues. Oregon St. likely will end up the #4 team in the Pac 10 and that's a team I saw Cincinnati stomp 34-3.
-
Oh joy, it looks like David Padgett is now going to be out at least 10 weeks if not for the entire season. At this point I am almost numb to U of L's various injuries. Add Palacios to the injured list as well but at least he'll be back fairly soon (so he can get hurt again). Looks like a promising season for U of L may already be up in smoke. What is it about Pitino's system that leads to all these injuries?

Yeah all of those contracts were paid off years ago. I think AOL/Time Warner just wanted to get that crap off the books.
