What are the best wrestling DVDs...

Recommended Posts

I'm now going to start bying wrestling DVDs, and I want some suggestions. Bob Barron helped me out a lot, leading me to Best of Raw 1 & 2 and Just Bring It, but I want more. So far I have...

1) Hulk Still Rules

2) The Rock: Just Bring It! (Two-disc version)

3) Rey Mysterio 619

4) Best of RAW Vol. 1 & 2

5) Beyond the Mat

6) Before They Were Superstars

7) WWF Judgement Day 2001

...so please let me know what WWE, WWF, ECW or any other DVDs I should get!

Also, what's up with the just released Classic Superstars Of Wrestling - 8 DVD Set? I just noticed it and can't find any information on it.

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

The WrestleMania 2000 bonus disc is a History of WrestleMania disc with interviews about each WrestleMania and clips of some of the matches in DVD quality. Giving us a little peak at what they would look like if they ever released the WrestleMania's on DVD.

Why Unforgiven 2001? There are no extras and the show itself isn't that good

Huh? Saturn vs. Raven and Tajiri vs. Rhyno were good, RVD vs. Jericho was a damn good match--better than their KotR 2002 match, Edge vs. Christian was good although their ladder match may be better, Rock vs. Booker & Shane was good despite Shane being in it, and I dug Austin vs. Angle majorly despite Angle bombing as champ afterward. Plus it was Austin in top 2001 form vs. ANGLE for cryin' out loud.

Plus, the 4 Team Elimination was fun and it had a hilarious comedy match in Kronik vs. the Brother of Destruction

Thanks so far. What is the bonus disc in Wrestlemania 2000?

Recaps of the best moments of all the prior 15 WMs.

Oh, my first WWF DVD was No Mercy 2001--got it used. Pretty good lineup on that one including the E vs. C ladder match. Even the filler isn't so bad--the Lingerie match and Test vs. Kane (AS' favorite match) is good for a laugh or two.

I got good deals on most of the DVDs I have online at half.com or used at CD Warehouses.

Saturn vs. Raven and Tajiri vs. Rhyno were good

Saturn v. Raven was the usual Raven crap and was pretty boring. Rhyno v. Tajiri was a 4 minute squash to kill time.

Edge vs. Christian was good although their ladder match may be better

The match was a major dissapointment and had both guys moving like they were in slow motion. I mean- hair slams?

Rock vs. Booker & Shane was good despite Shane being in it

Too much overbooking and Booker was made to look like a bitch.

I dug Austin vs. Angle majorly despite Angle bombing as champ afterward.

That Austin v. Angle match is the worst of the series. From the non sensical ending to the fact that nothing exciting really happens. Watch all their other matches and then watch the Unforgiven match- It pales in comparison.

The show was pretty good but once agan- NO extras. I only got it cause it was on sale for $7 Canadian at Wal Mart.

I would get No Mercy (also bare bones) over Unforgiven

I will always recommend PRIDE FC 10 - Return of the Warriors and the Grand Prix 2000. Watch the Gracie Clan get their ass beat by Sakuraba.

FMW - King of the Deathmatch

Cactus Jack vs Wing Kanemura

Combat Toyoda vs Megumi Kudo

Remember that Foley, Beniot, Guerrero, Angle are gods and buy everything that has them in a match.

Isn't that the first ECW PPV?

I've heard it has a great 6-man M-Pro tag match

Here is the match list I just found...

1. The Eliminators (John Kronus & Perry Saturn) vs. ECW tag team champions Buh Buh Ray & D-Von Dudley (6:11)

2. Rob Van Dam vs. Lance Storm (10:10)

3. Great Sasuke, Gran Hamada, & Masato Yakushiji vs. Taka Michinoku, Terry Boy (Men's Teioh), & Dick Togo (16:55) ****3/4

4. ECW TV champion Shane Douglas vs. Pitbull #2 (20:43)

5. Sabu vs. Taz (17:49)

6. Terry Funk vs. Sandman vs. Stevie Richards in a triangle match (19:10)

7. Terry Funk vs. ECW champion Raven (7:20)

...I might just pick this one up.

If your into Puro and have a multi-region player I'd recommend a few titles.

Riki Choshu Box set - If you’re a Choshu fan and have quite a bit of cash this is well worth it. 6 discs covering Riki's NJPW career from the 70s to about 00 with a small skip over in the mid 80s due to his stint in AJPW.

Radical Fights - 3 DVDs covering the history of NJPW from 72-01. NJPW does an excellent job in restoring their old footage, unlike a certain American promotion.

1994 J Cup - Great intro to Puro, which has been discussed to death already.

2002 G1 Climax - Two discs covering every match from the round robin tournament in their entirety.

NJPW vs. AJPW Total War - 2 discs covering the 10/9/00 & 1/4/01 Dome shows.

Barely Legal is a pretty good ECW PPV, so I'd easily recommend it. The M-Pro six-man tag match is really good, and the rest of the matches are decent enough, except for Douglas-Pitbull.

The RVD-Storm match is worth watching just to see Lance Storm's chair shots.

Heat Wave '98 is another good ECW PPV that's availabe on DVD.

For the most part, the ECW PPV DVDs don't have any extras. Some of them have a text-only match history thing, but that's about it.

DH, the Classic DVD set is a compilation of footage mainly from the USWA, GWF, UWF, etc. I just got it from work, and the only DVD I've watched is the Booker T. one, so I can't judge on any others, but the Austin DVD supposedly contains matches from his feud with Chris Adams, which was the feud that "made" him as an upstart heel. I'll let you know the entire listings later from work should I get a shot.

Are any of the FMW DVDs worth picking up?

King of the Deathmatch, Flying Assassin: The Best of Hayabusa, and Rule The Asylum are good the rest(from what I've seen) suck, here a basic rundown:

3 or 4 full matches

5 clipped/JIP matches

Annoying commentary by John Wantanabe and Dan "The Mouth" Lowanski

Good video packages

DVD Extras

Trialers for TOKYOPOP realeses like Street Fury, FMW, J-Idols(Japanesse Women)

Bonus match(JIP)

FMW History

Bios

If your curious about FMW from 95 til 2000 when Fuyuki took over and ruined everything get it other than that take a pass.

I would reccomend just about any RoH DVDs that have AJ and Daniels on them, as your GOING to get ATLEAST one good match. Barely Legal is worth it, although just get the VHS, as the DVD doesnt have many extras. Other than the ECW PPVs(Which if you want any others, get them on VHS) I do however reccomend all the major ECW "Best Of" DVDs as all of them usually come with 1-2 more matches than the VHS. Some of the matches are pretty great too.The "Best of" tapes are :Path Of Destruction,Extreme Evolution,Deep Impact,Best of Cactus Jack,Best of Dudley Boyz, and Hardcore History. I reccomend them all.
