sfaJack Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 I have a question. Can baseball "judgement" calls be overturned by another umpire.....(not counting whether a batter swung or not). Yes. But it RARELY happens, because they don't like to show each other up.
Bruiser Chong Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 I think that should have been one of those exceptions where they overturn the call. And what a bunch of tools the FOX announcers are. They spend all that time talking about how Lofton caught the ball and it should have been a triple play and then they dance around it just to avoid any controversy when the head of the umps (or whoever the guy was) came up there to explain the call. I'm not sure how much longer Wood should go. If he gets in any trouble, it may be wise to go to the pen.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Generally the 5th and 6th Umps are there to judge fair foul calls down the lines, and any other plays in the outfield that require their judgement.
sfaJack Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Get Wood through the 8th. He looks strong enough to do that. Then Borowski in the ninth, and goodbye Braves! You bunch of assholes don't deserve to win.
tpww7 Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 3 Outs Away until the 1st step in the Cubs-Sox World Series.
Bruiser Chong Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Sorta odd how people usually get on Baker's case for leaving his starters in there too long but he finally takes a guy out before he gets in big trouble, and they wonder why he does it. Granted Wood's pitched excellent ball, but he's up to 117 pitches and you'd figure he'd be going at least another 15-20 with the heart of Atlanta's lineup at the plate. And now, by taking Wood down, they were able to add an insurance run and have the chance to tack on a couple of more. Goodwin came through in the clutch after Miller just stood up there for three pitches for some reason. Oh well, let's hope things work out. *crosses fingers*
Bruiser Chong Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Wow, bad way to end the inning, but hey, gotta take those chances when you get them and that's what Gonzalez did. I was surprised he didn't go to second on the ball he hit, cause if he had, he would've scored on Goodwin's hit. That's the past now, though, cause it's time to go to the bottom of the ninth.
the pinjockey Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Probably the fact that it is the final game they figure why would you pull a guy pitching great. But with how many pitches he threw in Game 1 and the fact their is a 4 run lead I would yank him. Â If you can't count on your bullpen to protect a 4 run lead for 1 inning you aren't going very far anyway.
Guest Choken One Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Since the cubbies has seemingly won this one...Who starts game one? Prior or keep the rotation and Start Zamby? If possible, could Wood start? Im not sure when Game One is...I want to say Weds but not sure...

the pinjockey Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 It still irritates me beyond belief that Braves fans would let the Cubs fans overrun the stadium like that. Â The Braves should be sentenced to 30 years of cellar dwelling to teach the fans a lesson.
Slayer Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Anyone else catch in the background someone apparently running on-field and getting punked by security in the wake of the Cubs celebration?
Bruiser Chong Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! //Heenan marking for Flair mode
Mr. S£im Citrus Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 [Rock]  Finally! The Cubs... HAVE GONE BACK... to the NLCS!  :: raises eyebrow ::  If ya smeeeeeeelllll... what the Cubs... are Cookin!  [/Rock]
MrRant Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 If they don't beat the Marlins... all Cub fans should off themselves. Â Seriously.
JangoFett4Hire Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 They said this was the biggest crown in Brave postseason history... be sure to thank chicago on their way out... Â I bet Sox fans overrun Oakland tomorrow...

the max Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 If they don't beat the Marlins... all Cub fans should off themselves. Seriously. Why? It's not like Florida is a fluke.
A Happy Medium Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Heh, I think the Cubs now have a fucking great shot at the World Series. Â First series win since they won the World Series. And the crowd was nearly 50/50, with the Braves fans looking like shit once again. Â BTW, I think he's great and all, but Karros gives me a Bill Buckner vibe...no offense to BoSox fans and all... but yeah.
The Dames Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 If they've ever won the division prior to the new playoff system (with Division Series), then they have been in the LCS Bob.  Hey Bob...how about them Braves huh?  That's what you get for talking smack when the Yankees lost their first game  Dames

Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 my immediate reaction is to say the Braves are better than the Marlins, but man the Marlins looked damn good against the Giants.
bob_barron Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 I'm too depressed to get my facts straight  When does hockey start?

Bruiser Chong Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 I think that now that the Braves are out, all you Braves fans should get behind the Cubs. After all, you wouldn't want the team that took out your team to lose, would ya?
Cartman Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 The stage is set... Â Cubs will wipe the floor with the Marlins... Â Yankees...well let's just say if a certain East Coast team should win a very very big game tomorrow...Watch out! Â lol, Nah we all know it's set up now. Yankees/Cubs World Series. I wouldn't mind seeing that. The only thing I REALLY care about is seeing a Boston/Yankees ALCS. Â Even if Bodston gets mobbed by NY again I still wanna see those two teams playing in the ALCS more than anything. Â IMHO a Boston/NY ALCS would be higher rated than the WS this year....UNLESS it's Cubs/Red Sox of course...
treble Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 I'll just say this: Â If there's a possibility of a Cubs/Red Sox World Series and we end up with a Marlins/Yankees one... Â Well, I don't know what I'd do, but it won't be pretty.
