So, I had a job interview today...sorta

Recommended Posts

I went dressed SHARP to midtown Manhattan today for an appointment I had at 10:30 to talk about a position I found on Monster.com. I knew it was a job agency, which I tend to dislike, but they have gotten me full time work in the past, so I went anyway.

Anyway, I get there and I have to fill out a TON of paperwork (which I hate...just take my resume) before they make me take a typing/data entry test. Now, their keyboard wasn't something that I'm used to, so I did worse than I normally do. It wasn't one of those Microsoft Ergonomically Correct keyboards or anything, but the backspace key was the size of one key and not two, so I kept entering a hyphen instead of backspacing, which doubled the time I took to correct errors and slowed me down significantly.

Anyway, the woman interviewing me said that my scores were very good (which means as I suspected, I'm overqualified for any bullshit data entry positions) and she had a position for me.

Lo and behold, it was a data entry position that starts Monday at 11 dollars an hour. Now, that might sound great to some of you, but for me, it's a step back and I'm THROUGH taking pay cuts. THEN, she told me that it was for the Girl Scouts of America.

At that point, in my mind...I cringed. She told me to call back at 2 to see if the order went through and we would talk about it some more, so I left. I started listening to my mp3 player, strutting to 50 Cent...and realized...that I would be working for the GIRL SCOUTS OF AMERICA?!?!

I felt so emasculated, I went to Best Buy and bought G-Unit's Beg For Mercy album. I haven't bought a CD in 2 years.

Anyway, after consulting a friend, I decided I wasn't going to take the position so I called at 2 and turned it down. I KNOW I can find better.

Girl Scouts of America...I'll never be able to live that down. Especially if I'm involved in a battle rap.

Get the girls to trust you and then when they turn 18 pimp them out. Here's your chance to start a large prostitution ring Dames...you can say they're selling cookies and the sex comes for free

The woman actually said that I'd get free cookies out of it, no shit.

That's not enough to make me work there. UP THE PAY~! WOMAN!

If I was younger, I probably would have taken the job, but I know my worth now.

And my time isn't worth a lifetime supply of cookies.

You could repackage the free cookies and sell Dames Scout cookies

Dude, If the cookies would shoot out of the box through Dames' mouth, I'll buy 10 boxes...

These are cookies, not that old board game Eat at Ralph's with Dames likeness plastered to it

Hm. I understand Dames, totally understand that point of view.

It was my situation with becoming a McD's staff member. It was clearly a step down, but at least you had a choice. I sadly, didn't.

Well, here's hoping something comes up.

I would have taken the job, and slowly worked my way up the organisation from the inside, using the Girl Scouts as a cover for an organised crime ring. No one would ever suspect the girl scouts...

I'm soon to take Mr. Rant (I think he works for comcast?) one on one, as I officially as of the 11th, got a position at DirecTV. I'll be making about $10.25 with a $1.25 differential. I will get a .50 cent (w00t w00t) after I'm done with training. I'm so happy! w00t w00t! Good luck Damsey Wamsey on your job searching. I'm 4/4. Every job interview I have, I get hired on the spot. AND people say it's hard to get a job in Utah! Pfft.

Sadly, if I didn't know Dames well enough to know he's telling the truth here, I'd have sworn he was simply writing a plot for a porn film.

"So Damian, would you like to try some of my cookies?"

Even though this isn't a comedy thread.....Damn I can't stop laughing at the references to a board game.

Nothing funny enough to warrant my emediate rush to the bathroom like a post in the Old School folder but funny nontheless.

P.S: Ignore bad spelling and grammar, its 2 in the morning and insomnia is being a bitch.

Heh... Dames got a job offer for $11/h, and here I'm supposed to be getting one for $16/h. And he's the one with the high school diploma and college degree (I think).

...hehehe, I find humor in this.

Nope, no college degree. That's my problem. If I had one, I wouldn't be in this dilemma I'm in now.

Dames

 No actually it doesn't.

My dad has a degree from a college that everyone is supposed to get a job with from it. Guess what, my dad doesn't have a job from that degree. He has a job because he was contracted to Telus to work for them, and was eventually brought on staff.

Hopefully, I will be on their staff too. I work enough hours in general, and I become promoted to full-time status (with benefits) whether they want me full-time or not.

Besides.... I've never made 2k a month before... And I don't really have any expenditures, so that's like... A lot of money... I can spend... :D I'm liking it.

VS, what you have to understand (which I've recently learned) is that it doesn't matter what your degree is in...as long as you have one.

Most people do NOT have a career in what they've studied in...but they won't even consider you for a position unless you have that magical piece of paper.

I'm a patience major with a minor in the use of the private message feature here on the TheSmartMarks Forums, so I expect employers to be throwing job offers at me like they were sex, if you catch my drift and none of the diseases possibly associated.

Meh... I will. Just need to work at it.

IF not oh well. I'm not going to bitch with having $16/h thrown my way.

Still though Dames. I say you should've taken your job and wait for something else to come by.

$11/h better than $0/h.
