haVoc 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — She can score whatever interview she wants. She can send a book to the top of the best-seller list. She can even inspire the Backstreet Boys to reunite. Thanks to Oprah Winfrey, the Backstreet Boys have decided the timing is right to finally hit the recording studio for the follow-up to 2000's Black & Blue. "We're all excited," Kevin Richardson said soon after the group taped an upcoming episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" last month. "All of us hadn't been together in the same room in like six months, so it was wild. It was good to be back together again." Richardson, Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, A.J. McLean and Howie Dorough, who got together in March and decided to delay recording, will now regroup in January. "We've got some stuff written, but we're gonna go in with an open mind and just explore and experiment and see what happens," Richardson said. "We've been talking about going with live horn sections and stuff like that, just funkin' it up, but not really in a hip-hop sort of way. More of using horns and live strings and a little bit of a '70s edge or something." The guys have some ideas for producers, but Richardson wants to keep them under wraps for now. "We just wanna make music that we're proud of and have fun," he added. "It's simple." Except for Richardson, who has been starring in productions of "Chicago" around the world, each of the Backstreet Boys has been recording solo material in recent months, although Jive Records has not said whether any of the albums will be released before the group effort. "It's been two years since we came off tour and it's been good to give each other breathing room," Richardson said. For the "Oprah" episode, which airs Wednesday, the host invited McLean to discuss how he's dealt with his past alcohol abuse and then surprised him by inviting the remaining Backstreet Boys onstage. B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Fucking Oprah. I thought it would be 10 years or so on their reunion tour before we hear the Backstreet Boys again.

SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 So Justin was the only one to make a successful solo career? Yep, and he's from N'sync.... so the Backstreet Boys are just about completely washed up, I hope their album flops.

razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 What so you're saying 'Nsync and Backstreet Boys are 2 different groups? Well damn maybe all of these boy band failures should make a super group.

CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Meh. Of all the boy groups of the late-90s, Backstreet boys were probably the best. Also, this means no more Nick Carter singles. ::shudders::
The Dames 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Actually, I WANT to see Backstreet back together. JUST to see if the girls who were into them still are of if the fad is over. That would be a harsh, harsh reality check, wouldn't it? Dames
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I'm probably the only one around here who's keeping an open mind about this. Then again, I'm the only one into pop music. The argument can also be made that Nick Lachey has transitioned well, but 98 Degrees isn't considered a "boyband". Nick Carter's solo CD, what I've heard of it, was decent for the most part, with more of a rock tinge to his tracks. I fucking hate his little brother though. Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 All I have to say is remember New Kids on the Block and Boys II Men... Remember them for what, exactly? I have no idea what you meant by that, and if you were referring to Boyz II Men as a boyband, then you seriously need to reevaluate things, because they are FAR from it. razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 New Kids on the Block tried to make a comeback as NKTB and Boys II Men faded away after 3 albums. So you are telling me that a R&B group cannot be considered a boyband because they are black? Whats next you are going to tell me that B2K is not a boyband either? OMG you're RACIST
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 New Kids on the Block tried to make a comeback as NKTB and Boys II Men faded away after 3 albums. So you are telling me that a R&B group cannot be considered a boyband because they are black? Whats next you are going to tell me that B2K is not a boyband either? OMG you're RACIST Just because Boyz II Men faded away and are *GASP* all male, does NOT make them a boyband. Boyz II Men is an R&B/Soul group. They didn't have electronic dance beats and the corporate marketing machine behind them. They were four guys who loved music, and had pretty damn good voices. So how does that make them a "boyband". To compare them to NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, etc. is ludicrous. And also, what does the New Kids comeback have to do with anything? They were a boyband trying a comeback during the grunge era...of course it was bound to fail. It still makes no sense to me, Raz. And I don't listen to much B2K outside of the radio singles. They're young hip hop kids catering to the younger set, and that's about it. You seem to think just because it's a band with boys that it's a boyband. razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Boys II Men's 1st single did have electronic dance beats. You seem to think just because it's a band with boys that it's a boyband Its the most important part of the equation. Boys II Men was a boyband where GUY or Jodeci were not. Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Boys II Men's 1st single did have electronic dance beats. You seem to think just because it's a band with boys that it's a boyband Its the most important part of the equation. Boys II Men was a boyband where GUY or Jodeci were not. Boyz II Men were absolutely not a boyband. You can think what you want, but your facts are extremely out of whack. And Motownphilly was not a cheap pop riff. When the fuck did you see BSB with a number one hit that was sung ACCAPELLA? Oh wait, you didn't. Boyz II Men did that, but they're still just another corporate boyband. Any R&B/soul/etc. fan here (MX will back me up on this) will tell you otherwise. This opinion has some major flaws.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Zack is absolutely right. Besides Motownphilly, when did you ever see Boyz II Men bouncing around singing pop songs and dancing on stage? Their emphasis was on their music and their vocals and they were the premier r&b/soul band in the mid 90's. Dames
razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Boys II Men did have matching Carlton Banks sweater vests.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Boys II Men did have matching Carlton Banks sweater vests. Which they wore in only Motownphilly...once again, their first single. Dames
razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 They were puppets to Michael Bivens who wanted the group to be New Edition V2.
Perfxion 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 And how many people call NE a boyband? New Editon was a boyband Well, there is few... Boyz II men are about as much of a boy bad as Will Smith is to being a gangsta rapper.. Motownphilly was there only real popish song. They are mostly are an adult contemparty crossover group that sprung from R&B/Soul. Backstreet Boys are not a boy band either. BSB stopped being a boyband after the second US CD. BSB didn't really try single careers(excluding Nick) because they were raising their kids. Boys II Men did the same thing. There last few CDs have been just music they liking making. Their last CD was maid because one of them was getting married and that was the soundtrack to the wedding. BSB last CD didn't have many songs like "Backstreet's Back". There were a few uptempo, songs but they were being more mellow because they are older and their fan base was older too. NSync and O-Town weren't boybands after their latest CDs because most of it sounded more like an R&B group. B2K is a boyband in the since New Edition is. New Edition were young when they started but their music matured and grew with their age IE: Home Again being anything but a boyband group. B2K is on that pattern. Slayer 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 First off, I've always eschewed the term boyband, because a band to me requires its members to be playing instruments and such. Therefore, Hanson is a boyband. The more appropriate term for BSB, NSync, etc. would be boygroup Second, even as a notable metalhead who rarely payed attention to this kind of stuff, the BoyzIIMen = boygroup argument is going nowhere fast, razaz. They were R&B/Soul, and I liked "MotownPhilly" even
Guest Doyo Report post Posted December 6, 2003 I think it's hilarious that Justin is actually MORE famous solo than Nsync was together. Justin may have a more diverse group of fans now, but the total amount of fans is much less than compared to the height of Nsync. Nsync broke the record for most albums sold in a week and at least one of their albums sold over 10 million. Nsync toured stadiums as the only major act on the bill, while Justin & Christina together only toured arenas.
