Lord of The Curry

The OAO Return of The King thread

Recommended Posts

" We've come to it at last. The great battle of our time."- Gandalf

How very, very fitting. I'm tired and giddy and scared and excited about seeing this movie. Can it really be this good? Can it really live up to the hype? In less then a day, myself and thousands of others will find out.

In every review that I've read for the movie the phrase "one of the best of all time" or something similar comes up. I normally don't buy into the hype for a movie, I prefer to find out for myself and judge afterwards. I'm sad to say that I'm hooked on the hype for Return of The King. I'm not a Tolkein purist, though I've thoroughly read through and enjoyed the LOTR and The Hobbit and from what I've read if you're a Tokein purist, you're going to be dissapointed.

What do you all think? Love them? Hate them? Think it could actually be "one of the greatest"?

Please remember that if you've seen the movie or are reavealing plot lines, deaths, whatever to please use the spoiler tags.

I for one, can't wait. I waited too long to get tickets, so I'm stuck with noon tomorrow instead of midnight tonight. Either way, It's going to be awesome. The run time is a bit long, 3 and a half hours, but it will be worth it.

My housemate told me he read it's 3:30 with 1:05 cut out, so look forward to one long ass extended edition DVD.

I certainly hope so. I haven't looked forward to a movie this much since Fellowship of the Ring. I read the books for the first time in the 6th grade and have read them 5 times since. I'm not a Tolkien purist, I have no problems with the interpretations Peter Jackson has taken.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

If Aragorn fights Sauron, or Sam doesn't wear the ring (I have no idea what happens in the movie)
... I won't care that's not what happened in the book, because I am kind of viewing them as separate right now.

Greatest of all time? That's a bold statement, but I don't think I'll be disappointed.

Box Office Mojo gives a somewhat regular rating to the movie (a B rating) so there you have a non-greatest-film-ever review. Check it out at boxofficemojo.com

Reger Ebert's Chicago Sun Times review should be up tomorrow, also. He gave only *** (out of four) for Two Towers, IIRC.

I've lost faith in Roger Ebert ever since he hated Old School so I won't put much stock into his ratings. Roper liked it more, IIRC.

Mik-

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Sauron does not fight Aragorn in the movie. Sauron's Lieutenant shows up at the Black Gate instead, just like the books.

Ebert giving Two Towers *** out of **** doesn't mean he disliked it, it just means that he didn't think it was perfect.

Well I and 6 of my friends have tickets to tonight's midnight showing (technically 12:01, but you know what I mean). They sold out the IMAX theater in like 20 minutes so I missed out on those, but I'll be satisfied with some decent seats at the regular theater.

As I was walking out of the box office (at noon, mind you) I saw a small group of half a dozen in full Renaissance Fair regalia walking in to get in line, even though they wouldn't be seating until 11 PM. My friend and I could only laugh.

I hate being sick.

And because I have to work for the rest of the xmas season, I can't go until sometime next week.

I stand by my belief, though, that this is the biggest trilogy of all-time...and do believe that it will outdraw Titanic

I cannot WAIT to see this movie. I rented Fellowship last night, and watched it, followed by Two Towers today, back to back.

If they say that Return of the King is better than both combined...I have a feeling that I'm in for something special in that movie theatre.

Can't fucking wait.

Whether or not it is the greatest movie ever, I think it may (With the quality of all three movies, guessing on the current reviews I've seen) be the greatest trilogy of all time.

I just got back from the movie, and holy shit, did that suck.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

They changed the ending around so fucking bad, I don't recall Aragorn having to kill his elf girlfriend in the book. And what was up with that dancing shit between Frood and Sam?

As fun as the midnight showing might be , it is NOTHING compared to the midnight showings for Star Wars. I have been to both and the Star Wars midnight showings are just 100x more looney then LOTR. With that being said I still would have gone to the midnight showing tonight if I didn't have to be up for work in the morning.......I mean a 3:20 movie......that means if it starts on time then you have 10-15mins of previews so you are looking at being at the theater until 4am.......ugh.
