In the old days of NES, we all had games that we swore were too hard to beat. These days, there aren't that many unbeatable games (by beating I don't mean unlocking everything, but just beating it), but which ones did you have to give up on?

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City -- I know this is a beatable game, but I've died over and over playing the mission where you have to save Lance at the junkyard, and I've thrown my controller out of frustration, cursing how over rated the franchise is.

Red Faction II (GCN) -- This game is just too boring to keep playing. I'm at the level right after the predictable "plot twist" happens, and I'm not compelled to play any further. It's just too boring and a rote FPS, and lengthy -- I feel like the game should have ended where the plot twist happened. Terrible game.

Contra: Shattered Soldier -- What can I say? The game rocks, but it's close to unbeatable. Not to mention this generation of gamers feel really inconvenienced about the old-school "you have to beat it in one sitting" gameplay. I've gotten as far as inside the alien.

F-Zero GX -- I'm only on the third Story Mission and the 2nd difficulty of the 2nd class on Grand Prix. This is a very difficult game, and once again, not one that compells you to keep playing. Probably one of my first disappointing Nintendo titles.

I rented Silent Hill 3 last summer, and I gave up on it pretty quickly. The controls were flat-out awkward and I kept dying. Maybe it would've been easier if I'd played the other SH games, but... I never will.

Also: The "Bloodmoon" expansion for Morrowind. It was.. just... lame. I have no desire to play through it again. I tried playing as a werewolf, and that lasted all of ten minutes. All you do is feed, and then...??? Nothing. At least playing through the East Empire Company is kinda fun.

Star Ocean 2.

I kinda mentioned this at SmarkTalk when it was running. Basically I've always hated RPGs and were never good at them. But I decided to give this a shot because of all it promised to deliver. As I'm on one of these quests, where I have to get through some cave, I just keep dying over and over to the point where I didn't play it again and eventually sold it.

If I read this right, it is all about difficulty?

If so, saving, and ESPECIALLY QUICKSAVES killed difficulty.

Imagine trying to beat max payne with 3 lives and 3 continues.

Half Life. Extremely overrated and more importantly gave me motion sickness like a fifth of gin would.

Never beat Spider Man for Playstation 2, and FFX sat there for a year untouched.

Am I the only one who likes this game?

Sure, I'll agree with you, the Single player blows but the multiplayer more than makes up for it. Best console Multiplayer since GoldenEye IMO.

And I must agree with Skironox on Half Life.

Red Faction II (I had it for the PS2), is the greatest FPS that I have ever played, period. I love every single aspect of that game.

Final Fantasy VIII - I think I've made 3 attempts to play this all the way through and have yet to get halfway through disk 2 before quitting out of boredom.

Wing Commander 4. I dug the shit out of Wing Commander 3, but never beat it due to the fact that it takes forever to just finish the first disc, but Wing Commander 4 just...just sucked. The controls were completely different from Wing Commander 3, so that through me off, and then I couldn't get a single thing working right for Wing Commander 4, so I tried to sell it...

I'm currently stuck in Hot Shots Golf 3.. Street Hoops can be a bit frustrating, though I think I know what its about after watching the ESPN series...

As far as RPGs go, 7th Saga has to be the most frustrating RPG to me.

::sighs:: 15 days until Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2 comes out...

Oh yeah, speaking of Baldurs Gate, I got the original, thought it was real awesome, and eventually gave up in Chapter 7 because I had a weak ass party. I didn't start a new game again. I loved that game but there was too much micromanagement for me to really truly get into it.

Probably Halo on Xbox and Terminator 3 on PS2.

Both games have the whack-ass controls where on control stick moves forward, another looks around to change walking direction, and the other zooms.

That's what was great about BG and BG2. Who was in your party?

I'm currently stuck in Hot Shots Golf 3

Where? Because I'm currently going through the ranks and I want to be prepared -- I just beat the Steve Irwin wanna-be.

Do you know if it's going to be a conintuation of the first one or a totally different game? I've been too lazy to check...

Seriously? Did you fail to finish Spider-Man because you lost interest or because you found it too hard? Not only is the tutorial hilarious, the game itself is DEAD easy, ala LOTR:Return of the King, and I had it beat in two days without any trouble.

I gave up on Legends of Wrestling II, I was *amped* to play it and kill everyone with The Hitman, but found it to just pale in comparison to just about every other wrestling game I've played. The new one though, Legends of Wrestling:SHOWDOWN, that features DUSTY F'N RHODES (shut up) has me waiting with baited breath.

I bet I'm disappointed again.

Contra Shattered Sodier...I wanted to like the game, but it relied too heavy on being able to memorize stuff that just pops out of nowhere and kills you. It's just not very fun.

I just got burned out on FF7 and quit near the end of the game.

I couldn't even get a good start on Silent Hill 2...too much wandering around looking for crap, and annoying controls.

I gave up on Super Mario Sunshine, not because it was hard, but i just didn't enjoy it or care enough to bother finishing it. I started it again recently and beat it in like three days when i had nothing better to do.

Socom. I just, couldn't do it.

Never played the first, but I have a strong feeling that SOCOM II will be the next on my "give up" list. I just can't get through the first stage. On the EASY difficulty!

I knew I couldn't be the only one... ;p
