Frozen Post count in HD

I still don't get this. If the mods don't like post counts, get rid of them.

I've tried fighting that battle. I even started a poll about it in GC several months back. The number of infants who whined, cried, and clung to their post count like it was the last pacifier in the galaxy was quite disheartening. We decided not to yank the post counts, since so many people obviously place value in a number which appears below their screen name on an internet message board. (Can you tell I think the concept of someone actually giving two pins about their post count is ridiculous? I mean, really... get some goddamn perspective.) It's something that's possible one of these days, but the recent decision was just to turn counts off in the former NHB.

Maybe but most of the people who bitched about it haven't moaned since they were discontinued in NHB, and they certainly haven't changed their posting habbits.

 

I say, if Dames et al thinks that doing away with post counts will make the board better, do it. It's his board, we play by his rules. And if you're worries about people leaving because of it, do it for a trial period only. I can almost guarantee, though, that the number and quality of posts on the board wont change. Hell, the other day Brujo started a thread which would have been called post whoring if there were any posts to whore.

 

This whole pussy-footing aroung, however, reflects badly on the board and the people in charge of it.

I have a question, though: outside of post-whoring, do people really take pride in their post counts? I have to admit that I only really post in HD and the OAOAST, to I'm sort of in the dark to what other problems the board may have.

Remember what happened in the EZboard days when post counts were abolished and everyones title was reset to "User"? There were practically riots (Not really, cause it's an online thing, but...)

Just because someone likes having a post count and doesn't want to abolish them doesn't make them infants. Nor do people who want to keep post counts whine about it. Some may but the majority make some good points about why they should be allowed to have post counts.

TSM's problem is not that there are too much post whoring or new trolls. It's the trolls we already have here, that get away with there BS. Look at Agnes. He makes fun of a family freind's death, and my alcoholism and gets away with it. Don't even get me started on the racism and ignorance that can be found in the CE folder. Or the insulting thread about a mentally handicapped wrestler. It was meant as humor but as someone who suffers from a mental handicapp I really didn't appreciate it.

Say what you will, but this place has always had a problem with new peopel, be they trolls, previously banned posters, or just people who want to, y'know , discuss things. And God Forbid people question the way things are around here, because then all everyone hears is "OMG TROLL BAN PLZ!~"

Alas, most people here are too pickled in their own ignorance to realize that post counts are ultimately meaningless. They aren't representative of quality, of a persons intelligence, or ven of tenure here, as it's ridiculously easy to post hundreds of times a day, like Choken One, or Downhome. I never had beef with Brusier so I wouldb't know about his problems. And post counts are meaningless. I have a huge post count and it means nothing. I suck. I am a shitty poster. I question all the time how the hell I got so popular.

I still can't wrap my head around the fact that people take pride in a post count. Shit, I have only about 3500 posts since the board opened in '02 and I think I spend WAYYY too much time here, but others have 3-4x the amount I do, and think it's a badge of honor or something.

 

I'm not going to go on about whatever problems TSM has and may have, since I can always go to either SKNT or WDI for a respite. The biggest problem I see, though, is that people won't fucking IGNORE some people (you know who they are), so they would either go away, or step over the line and get banned.

 

If you don't like how TSM is run, either PM Dames or a mod or something and tell them WHY you don't like it, or just FUCKING LEAVE!!! Some posters didn't like how Keith and Co. ran TheSmarks board, so they made WDI, others didn't like how WDI was run (or just wanted an alternative), so they made SKNT. There are about 500,000 message boards out there, so I'm pretty sure you can find one that you like pretty easily. Sitting around and bitching doesn't help things.

To my credit, I never held anything against anyone new here unless they were a clear troll or had such abhorrent typing and grammar skills that I had to comment on it somehow.

 

I would get into it with Bruiser and CJ sometimes, but not for their pointing out obvious flaws with the people on the board, but because the occasional "the Porn folder has been neutered" post would bug me.

 

And I, in no way whatsoever, endorse any post by Downhome at any time.

 

The really funny part about this, to me, is that the people who would make the most noise about a lack of post counts or them being frozen in folders are the people who reside in the wasteland of the WWE folder. I doubt 95% of them even bother scrolling down to see what else is on these boards, but they'll be damned if they lose their counts.

Post counts in my completely meaningless opinion should be completely eradicated from this “establishment”.

 

High Post counts were all the rage once upon a time and I was of course one of the key components to this “fad”. I am called the Post Whore and even won the “prominent” 2003 Post Whore of the year award because of my excellence in the field of post whorage but as you might have noticed, I’m not as active as I once was here because quite frankly it’s gotten absolutely ludicrous around here and everything seems to be just cyclical and lackluster around here because it’s the same old thing everyday. I could care less if there is a hot new gimmick poster in the hardcore board or the idiots here found another complaint about Randy Orton or “creatively” thought of a new way they could potentially eliminate the existence of Triple H. It hasn’t been fun for quite some time and that’s why I’m not here much anymore.

 

We all would benefit from erasing the post count altogether.

From my experiments as RoyalBlue, I can safely say that people treat you differently if you're a n00b. I got shit for posting the same stuff as i would as chave.

 

Eradicating post counts would at least eradicate all the "shut up n00b" shit.

 

Although, having said that, I have got annother new posting name accepted and reasonably established in HD in under 100 posts.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I happen to think this board has a lot more problems then whether or not to eliminate post counts. How about getting the board where it works properly for everybody. I don't know how many times I've come on here in the past couple of weeks and couldn't get in initially because of an SQL error or a memory shortage or something.
