The only two bands I consider to have done no wrong, or the least amount of wrong imaginable are The Smiths and Sparks. Tom Waits comes close but you could argue the point about repetition of lyrics and culling lyrics from elsewhere. But he's had an extremely consistent career. I'm not too keen on the categorisation of 'greatly exceeds hype' cos the bands I would rank after those I've mentioned rarely have any hype, they're just good.

Laz, how can you say that Eminem exceeds hype? I'm not knocking his music (although I do think that he sucks) but with the amount of smoke that's blown up his ass, it's physically impossible that he'd exceed the hype.

Just my $.02.

Eminem also gets rather excessive negative hype, so it balances out.

I can't do a list like this myself... it's about the most impossible thing I could be asked.

edit: alright, I'll do a limited version, for only greatly exceeds hype:

What is wrong with Cinderella?

Where to start ... ... I don't really want to end up writing a novel on the subject, so just figure that they're not that flexible musically in comparison.

Damn you people who listed The White Stripes under sucks. Also, damn the short lived "garage band" trend that made people write them off.

The white stripes are overrated as a live band, I can't stress that enough. Very hit and miss. And shame on you, agent, Mr. Bungle over Primus? I know which one I'd rather listen to a whole album of.

It's a tough call, really, but I've been on a major Bungle kick lately, and Patton is a thousand times the vocalist Les is, and they're way more diverse. At this juncture, I'll say Bungle, but mainly because they're fresh in my mind.

Not only did he put Frank Sinatra as Exceeds Hype, The Beatles are pure crap apparentally.

Whilst his opinion of the Beatles is legendary in its awfulness, I think Sinatra is too high on his list. Nothing special. I would agree with you Agent that the one criticism you could make against Primus would be one of diversity, but then the one criticism you could make of Bungle would be one of focus. Course, I'm all for fucking shit up, as they say.
