JasonX 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2004 Last week's episode of MST3K will be the last episode of the show we'll be seeing on TV until further notice. Sci-Fi opted not to renew the show and will no longer be airing Mystery Science Theater 3000 on Saturday Mornings. As a result, we will now have to make do with bootleg copies as well as waiting for new DVD box sets containing episodes for our MST3K fix...

Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted February 5, 2004 10 years I believe, unless you wanna count their local network run too, so it'd be 11 or so I believe. The finest and best show of them all, god dammit.
Ed Wood Caulfield 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2004 I still hold out hope that the show will be picked up by another channel some day. AMC seems like the type of station that would show MST3K. The show should still be on T.V. so that future generations could know how awesome MST3K was. Of course, I would also like to see the show back in production, flushing out brand new episodes, but I take what I can get. It truly was the greatest show of all time. What will we do with bad movies without our robot pals?
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 5, 2004 I would love to see Andy Richter beside the bots in the theater if the show is renewed someday.
the max 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2004 Not watch bad movies? I mean really. The show is funny and all, but it's far from the greatest show ever.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted February 5, 2004 Why would we want to not watch bad movies? The rights issue will stop the majority of episodes from ever airing in reruns on another channel, sadly.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2004 or we can just rely on friends who have taped episodes of the show since High school *looks in AngelSlayer's direction* When was the last time you asked for an episode anyway? As for the show's original run, it aired in Minneapolis from Thanksgiving '88 until May '89, then on Comedy Channel/Central from November '89 to May '96, and finally on Sci-Fi from January '97 until last week Interesting fact: The last filmed episode, Danger: Diabolik aired on August 8 1999, but the last-aired original episode, Merlin's Magical Shop, didn't air until a month later (it was delayed due to film-rights negotiations)
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2004 They were only showing old episodes...so I'm really not missing it that much. I enjoyed the show and seem to be one of the few that I know of who liked Mike better than Joel
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2004 I preferred Mike to Joel. He fit the part better, IMO, and was just as funny. Both were great, though.
WrestlingDeacon 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2004 I prefer Mike to Joel, but then again I didn't start watching it until Mike had replaced Joel, so he was the guy I knew from the start. Joel always seemed a little to 'mellow stoner' for me.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 5, 2004 or we can just rely on friends who have taped episodes of the show since High school *looks in AngelSlayer's direction* When was the last time you asked for an episode anyway? I don't expect you to mail me a tape to watch, when we meet up again you can either bring some or I'll just watch'em should I go there. Anyways do you have that episode where Satan is trying to ruin Christmas behind Santa's back? That episode rules.

Anyways do you have that episode where Satan is trying to ruin Christmas behind Santa's back? That episode rules. I'll put it to you this way: I have every CC episode on tape, save for one because my goddamn dad changed channels for a half hour while in the middle of recording... I have most of the Sci-Fi eps, but there are some gaps, especially from the 10th season (which I didn't even get to see most of until 3 years later)
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted February 5, 2004 Mike or Joel, it didn't really matter. Both were great in their own way, but I personally liked Mike more. In the end it was all about Tom and Croooow. I believe I'm one of the few who didn't hate Mother Forrester when she became the featured villian.
PsychoDriver 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2004 that sucks, MST3K is about my favorite TV show of all time, it perfectly combined my love for old b-movies movies and great comedy. It is truly sad to hear that MST3k will never be seen on TV ever again. That's a damn shame... So a big "screw you" goes out to Sci-Fi and Comedy Central for taking this away from us. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2004 I'm sad to see MST3K go. But the episodes that were on were a poor version of the show. The Joel/Dr. Forrester/TV's Frank era was clearly the best of them all.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2004 Mystery Science Theater... cancelled? FUCK SCI-FI!!! ...oh, and Mike and Pearl ruled it over Joel and Forrester.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2004 Re: Joel vs. Mike I have kind of a strange opinion on this. For the most part I take the neutral road in saying they both have their goods and bads BUT Back when I first started watching, I prefer Joel miles ahead of Mike... however, years later, when I would rewatch a Joel episode versus a Mike episode, it would seem like the Joel episode failed to age as well as the Mike one, even though there may have only been a two year difference between the two Maybe sometime I'll post my ultimate recommendation list (since there certainly are plenty of eps I think can or should be avoided, much as I loved the show)
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted February 5, 2004 I wouldn't say the Mike era was a poor version of the show. Doctor Forrester and TVs Frank were great, but the movies were always the most important part of the show. Of course Mother Forrester, Bobo and Brain Guy can't compare to Doctor Forrester and TV's Frank, but the movies were still good.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted February 6, 2004 Mystery Science Theater... cancelled? Well it was already cancelled a few years ago and Sci-Fi had just been airing the reruns since. This was the cut off date and it was known for awhile. The people behind the show were ready to move on.

Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2004 I like 'em both about equal, but Joel has my all-time favorite MST line. From Pod People: "Trumpy, you can do stupid stuff!" A lot of it is from the delivery, I guess, but I can't stop laughing every time I hear that. Plus, Joel was in Manos, which was my favorite of the episodes. Slayer 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2004 Allright, here's my personal ultimate recommendation list for MST First, before you go and say, "Why isn't 'Episode X' on this list?", these are just my opinion. Some episodes I didn't find funny at all (gasp), and others I enjoyed, but I'm unsure if most people would find it funny as I did. One small caveat is that I'm biased towards the relatively more recent films (70's through 90's, as opposed to 40's through 60's) and also towards the foreign films Local Season - quite frankly, this season sucked for the most part, though there were some little bits here and there are interesting. One major difference between this season and the future is that the jokes were totally improv rather than scripted. While at some points this leads to hilarity (especially from Josh Weinstein, who thrived on improv), it also leads to long stretches of silence in the theater. Phase IV - If an MST fan should see only one ep from the local season (for the novelty), this is the one. Josh is on fire (not like that) throughout the episode, and it's not really that bad a movie Season 1 - Same as the local season. While the humor is a bit more polished, their growing pains are still there, now to be experienced by a national audience. For that, I can only recommend one from this season as well (so you at least get to see the novelty of Josh as Dr. Earhardt and Servo) Robot Monster Season 2 - Things are running smoother now, but better things would still come yet. Sidehackers Rocket Attack USA Godzilla vs. Megalon Season 3 - My favorite season, largely because I'm a sucker for the bad Japanese movies. Also has some bad 80's movies/TV series that make for good material here Cave Dwellers Gamera Pod People Time of the Apes Amazing Colossal Man Gamera vs. Zigra Master Ninja I + II (two separate episodes) Season 4 - Compared to the previous season, I didn't like this one very much, probably because they stuck mostly with 50's/60's flicks without the nice variety from the previous seasons. Teenagers from Outer Space Being From Another Planet Hercules Unchained The Day the Earth Froze Manos (I think it's only an okay episode, but since the majority of MSTers claim this to be the pinnacle of the series, I'll let you be the judge) Season 5 - The split season, when Joel left and Mike came in Joel eps Warrior of the Lost World Eegah! Mitchell Mike eps Alien from LA Outlaw Santa Claus Season 6 - Mike's first full season. Kinda hit and miss, IMO Zombie Nightmare Creeping Terror Code Name: Diamond Head San Fransisco International Red Zone Cuba Danger: Death Ray Season 7 - Last CC season. Only six episodes, but all six are extremely strong (presumably because they wanted to go out with a bang), so I'd recommend the whole damn season. Unfortunately, Incredible Melting Man was the aforementioned tape in which my dad interrupted halfway through, and I wouldn't mind getting the full episode back, dammit... Season 8 - First Sci-Fi season. New voice for Crow, plus Dr. Forrestor and Frank are gone. Host/break segments go downhill a fair bit, IMO, hence at this point I started watching just for the movie-riffing (which was still dead on). This season closed out with quite possibly the strongest trio of episodes in the series history Giant Spider Invasion Parts: The Clonus Horror Riding with Death Prince of Space Invasion of the Neptune Men The Closing Trio Space Mutiny Time Chasers Overdrawn at the Memory Bank Season 9 - Fewer episodes than in previous seasons (due to less demand from SFN), but still a strong season. Only episode I never saw was Gorgo Phantom Planet Puma Man Werewolf Hobgoblins Touch of Satan Final Sacrifice Devil Fish Season 10 - The final season. Due to not having the SFN for a fair while from '99 on, I have not seen about half of the episodes Soultaker Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders Future War Final Justice Squirm Danger: Diabolik (the final episode)

godthedog 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2004 I like 'em both about equal, but Joel has my all-time favorite MST line. From Pod People: "Trumpy, you can do stupid stuff!" A lot of it is from the delivery, I guess, but I can't stop laughing every time I hear that. Plus, Joel was in Manos, which was my favorite of the episodes. that line is GOLDEN. joel has a much better personality, but his delivery did kinda bother me. his tone of voice just didn't seem that eager to rip into the movies. after the series moved to sci-fi, i rarely watched it; the host segments just started getting weirder and darker (in the writing and the way they looked), and it was really off-putting and not funny. i think they ran out of ideas for the host segments around the time joel left, when they'd start doing stupid sitcom plotlines that would run throughout the show. and the 'manos' episode is REALLY overrated. worst movie ever, without a doubt, but i don't find their treatment of it all that funny. there's lots of loooong pauses, and even everyone's delivery is more "i am in pain, please make it stop" than "let's try to be funny."
