Guest Bottled Black Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 I've never seen the Steiner botch either. How about Smackdown right around the beginning of the McMahon-Helmsley era, Test is doing a run-in to get to HHH and goes to slide under the bottom rope and smashes his face on the bottom rope, shattering his nose in the process. Also not really a botch per se, but during a D-X run in, Billy Gunn slides under the bottom rope, and slides about 3/4 of the way across the ring I thought he was going to slide clear out the other side.

The Metal Maniac Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 Test vs EDDIE~! (I decided that since he's the champ, it's only fair that he gets capitals and the tilde-bang) at WM X7...good God. You have to see the original airing to see it, because they cut it out of their releases, but I swear, Test hung there like a goof for about 5 minutes. When you need the ref, your opponent, and someone else to get you out, there's a problem. It was made all the better by EDDIE~! tripping when he went to help him. Funny shit. We were all convinced that Test was as good as done with the company, until he hit that crazy-ass spinning powerbomb.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted February 20, 2004 Author Report Posted February 20, 2004 Meh... what the heck... include WCW in here. Heck, I through in an NWA one earlier. Another botch I remember.... not a known one, but it stood out to me. About 6-7 weeks after his debut, Brock was taking on Jeff Hardy. Jeff was looking for his sit down jawbreaker, but he couldn't even get his head under Brock's chin. The set-up took about 10 seconds to do. It sucked and showed how sloppy Jeff had become.
humongous2002 Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 What was even funnier was the promo HBK cut after that match warning HHH about what would happen if he didn't join the NWO and he kept looking at Nash laying down in the corner... What's even funnier is that Nash came back and main evented on 3 consecutive ppvs the following year. That Vince has one sick and twisted sense of humor.
humongous2002 Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 I just can't believe people forgot about this one: King of the Ring 2001-Angle v. Shane McMahon When Angle tried plenty of times to Overhead suplex Shane through the glass, crazy ass Shane landed on his head several times. That night Kurt earned his stripes with me and a lot of other fans.
ChrisMWaters Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 One semi-botch I remember...Royal Rumble 03... Nowinski just thought he eliminated both Edge and Rey Mysterio...unaware they're both on opposite turnbuckles behind him... Rey hits a missile dropkick...and Edge kinda just baseball slides in the air right on top of Nowinski's face. Oh, and it's not WWF/E or NWA/WCW...but...how could I NOT include the infamous JT Smith botch from ECW. The one that got the ever popular chant... "YOU FUCKED UP! YOU FUCKED UP!"
Guest Loss Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 I recall Crash Holly once climbing to the top rope and immediately falling off.
DCMaximo Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 There was a match on WCW PPV once, which had Eddie/Rey/Kidman vs Vampiro/ICP, which finished with Kidman doing a Shooting Star Knee To The Face on Vampiro. Also, during the InVasion, Scotty 2 Hotty had made his return the previous week, and was in tag action with William Regal and possibly Tajiri against 3 Alliance stars. Regal has his opponent by the arm, and gestures to tag Scotty, who does his bouncing on the ropes bit to indicate his excitement at this idea. Sadly, Scotty was too excited and slipped from the rope to the floor. The whole crowd started laughing, even Regal started to smile. Scotty got back up, looked embarrassed, then tagged in.
Guest wayzing Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 Someone's already mentioned it but WrestleMania VIII where Papa Shango being late to the ring led to Sid kicking out of the legdrop in Hogan's "farewell match" is just hilarious. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
DCMaximo Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 And it led to your excellent sig too. I love the way Hogan, Sid and Wippleman acted really awkwardly in the ring, while Shango took a fucking age to get there.

I thought he did it on purpose. The crowd cheered for him when he got back on the apron. How many WCW botches can we name? Shockmaster, Shockmaster, Shockmaster....
Guest Wisdom Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 Here's one I'm surprised some people forgot: No Mercy 2003- A-Train/Benoit. Train has Chris up for a gorilla press and drops him head-first onto a chair in the ring. I'm no A-Tain fan or anything, but man... the look on his face as it all happened and when he checked on Benoit made me feel sorry for him. Yeah, that one was legit scary. I thought Benoit was DONE.
Guest thebigjig Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 This may have been mentioned already but one that just came to mind was a few weeks before WCW closed... Mike Modest and Christopher Daniels got a try out match, Daniels went for a lionsault, did the backflip, and came down on the very top of his head... thankfully he was okay... he quickly jumped up and continued and didnt seem shaken all that much, but watching it, it was pretty sick looking
alfdogg Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 (edited) The Taka one was just disgusting because of JR's commentary "lol the little Japanese guy almost died", talk about racist. I don't think he actually said "lol", This is the hardest I've laughed at anything on this board in weeks. At Royal Rumble 2000, when the MSP was running in to attack Bradshaw, Pete Gas hit his face on the bottom rope as he tried to slide into the ring. Edited February 20, 2004 by alfdogg

Of course, the NEXT week, the whole thing is ignored. -=Mike

Open the Muggy Gate Posted February 20, 2004 Author Report Posted February 20, 2004 Not that long ago, Jazz was looking to hit a running Trish with a clothesline. Trish usually ducks under and hits a neckbreaker. However, Trish went foward too much and couldn't reach her. Jazz fell down like a neckbreaker anyways. Very odd moment.
Ace309 Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 Maven vs.... Christian, I think, on Smackdown. Maven climbs to the top rope for his dropkick, then falls off awkwardly. I think that was when he broke his leg and still finished the match.
Guest Askewniverse Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 I know its not wwe, but the Shockmaster has earned his place in every thread like thi...until the end of time I mentioned this in another thread, but you can see a clip of the Shockmaster incident at DDT Digest. If you've never seen the clip, there's your chance.
Guest Mosaicv2 Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 I'm surprised this thread went three replies before a mention of the now-classic RKO BOTCH~! this is the reason everybody on this forum HATES Orton!!

iliketurtles Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 About Billy Gunn running to the ring and nearly sliding all the way across it...check out him making the save with Road Dogg for X-Pac during the HHH beating at Wrestlemania 15. He nearly does it there.
Nighthawk Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Going back to the super safe Linda McMahon tombstone, I haven't seen it, but I assume her head was just nowhere near the ground. I have heard that described as the "real" tombstone, with the idea being you squeeze the person's head between you legs and when you drop it sends a shockwave up their spine or something. Speaking of doing signature moves in an overly safe way, that reminds me of HHH giving Shawn Michaels the pedigree on Raw and jumping like 15 feet in the air and pretty much completely letting go of him before they fell. I kinda think they might have been working the smarks there, tring to get everyone worried about Shawn's back before his return match, but it was still pretty funny.
The Amazing Rando Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 I still say that Pedigree looked like a combo of a HHH Pedigree and a HBK Back body drop. God, what a horrible sight.

You mean a BAAAAAAAAAAAACK BODY DROP! Sorry, I mark for that. ...and Rando, seeing your avatar...I would LOVE to see wrestling fans make MST3K episodes with bad matches/PPVs on it.
