The New Undertaker

Recommended Posts

Wasn't his hair past shoulder length a few weeks ago. Why was it so short. Pretty quick match, I got chills seeing Paul Bearer, very creepy segment

Good to see him back though

It would have been a phat touch if his clothes had been dirty and torn and shit, but nope.

I was thinking the same thing. They should've gave him the old make-up job too to really make him look dead.

It was slightly underwealming...Disapointing even.

I'd like to see them gone FULL out with rotting flesh still hanging off his skin and dirt...just for the "back from the dead" effect.

It's ok but in a week, the DEADMAN will be gone and UnderChuckNorris.

It will be interesting to see what Vince does with him now, espicially given the reaction MSG gave him (chanting 'tombstone!' and 'Un-der-ta-ker!').

Angle.

Eddy moves on to TBS for whatever reason and Undertaker gets to make Angle look stupid for a couple months...

Eddy wins...gets a program with a random heel for a short time...Undertaker takes out TBS...Eddy turns Heel(how? no idea...stops cheating i guess)...Taker goes over at 'Slam...Taker drops title at No Mercy to whatever BIG HEEL they have slotted (A-train? Rhyno...Orton?)...'Taker retires(yeah right) at Survivor Series.

I don't consider myself either a Taker mark or a Taker hater, so the new look was fine by me. Had this been a one time thing, I would have appreciated them going all out, but considering that Taker will be around for the next year (at least), I'm sure the Zombie Taker would have gotten exceedingly annoying within a few weeks. The methodical pacing, ridiculous no-selling (even for Taker) and pale faced makeup would have been shit upon real quickly. I'm thankful their not changing his style, because I thought his workrate in 2002-03 was the best it had been in a while. The Taker at WMXX combined the spine-tingling entrance of the Old with the style of the New, which I appreciated. Although, admittedly, they could have at least changed his tank top.

Either way, Taker's back on SD! therefore I now have a reason to start watching again.

Personally, I'd think Vince would have Taker run over some mid-carders (like Rhyno or A-Train) first before doing anything major (like beating Angle), but whatever floats his submarine.

Taker should not get another title run. He doesn't need it. He is ABOVE it.

It's time for guys like Rhyno & A-Train to get built up to credible uppercarders. Cena needs some good guys to feud with as TBS heads off to win the WWE Title at Summerslam (as a face against Angle).

EDIT: Don't ask me about how I came up with that storyline idea... I'll post it in my Wrestling Idea journal tomorrow or something.

I don't know.

I was all for Big Show after seeing Conan, then he stunk up the opener in grand fashion. Usually the opener is pretty hot, but that was awful.

Thank god for NYC getting behind it regardless.

at least deliver what is promised and give the fans what they want.

They deliver the lights and the entrance, and let's be honest, that's what everybody wanted. The original Undertaker ring style involves flooring main eventers with a single right hand and other stuff that's simply unreasonable in a world filled with legitimate wrestlers, moderate amounts of psychology, and submissions. As RD Reynolds put it:

Undead zombies do not move around the ring very quickly. Therefore his matches consisted almost entirely of a slow punch here, a slow kick there, then he'd get knocked on his ass and slowly sit up.

The main complain about this Undertaker is that the Badass Taker wouldn't sell, but Dead Taker doesn't sell either. The guy's seniority keeps him on top and as long as he gets pops and doesn't sink ratings, he's not going to be jobbing that often. This protection has been what's allowed him to stay on top even longer. Just be thankful he's heading for the Exit door soon.

Back to my point though, each reinvention of the Undertaker character carries on the legacy of the last ones, which is why it's been such a draw past it's opening years. And each time it changes, a whole bunch of people complain about how it's either a crappy change or not what they expected. And yet by the time it's come to change the look again, everybody long has forgotten their complaints about the last one.

I can't believe I'm defending Undertaker, but there it is.

I also loved the image of him walking on the glass floor of lightning.

Hell, the floor screen added a whole new dimension to the sets (although one that could only be seen on TV) and is something I wouldn't mind seeing on future PPVs.

If Taker came out looking like he did tonight a few months ago before the buried stuff, he would have looked cool. But, when you hype the Old Taker coming back, full force, for 2 months, you don't fucking pull that shit that they did last night. Now, if his suit was dirt stained and torn up and shit, that would have been okay, but every single fucking WWE fan was expecting the deadman Taker, full on. WWE failed to deliver on Taker.

Undertaker brought twice the moveset of Kurt Angle tonight, and he managed to keep me entertained for ten minutes.

Fuck what he was wearing. I salute the no-selling BikerTaker.

As a Taker fan I was really getting excited over the videos of the past few weeks, etc. and wondering how they'd do it. I couldn't get the PPV last night but I have to say that looking at pics of him today, it looks like a real halfassed attempt at the "Deadman". He looks like a big dork in that hat and they just tossed a duster over his old ugly ring gear. Ugh.

He freaking looked like Billy Ray Cyrus! Ugh.

It was way too over hyped and was a pretty solid letdown if you ask me. Nice job WWE. Not only was his "new" look bad, but the match was crappy as well. Nothing important happened, it was like ... just another match between the two. NOT WORTH the hype.

I did however, love the druids and how someone with a fire extinguisher was shown in the background putting out some "dropped fire". That was classic.

Let me get this straight, so WWE takes the motorcycle away, gives Taker the old Deadman's music,Paul Bearer snd some druids but they still kept the Bad ass look.

I would have been satisfied if he would've just worn another shirt instead of the wifebeater. I hoped for the gloves, but I can deal without. I hate McMahon for screwing THIS up.

Justin Hawk Undertaker.

So after 2 months of hype they give us Bearer, some druids, and the exact same Taker just with a ten gallon cowboy hat. His look was a big letdown, let's see how he wrestles. My favourite spot with the Deadman has always been the situp, he takes abuse, sells it by going down dead, but then by the power of the urn, mystically is unhurt. They did this spot once, ONCE! Plus his offence was nothing but the old soupbone using Biker Taker punches leading to the tombstone. Overall I was left very disappointed by this return.

I think they wanted to have him revert back to his old ways for this one night to put Kane in his place. But they didn't want a permanent change so they kept the MMA Badass Taker in place somewhat. The only way we'll know for sure is when we see the Big Dog on Smackdown next. Either way I think his ring work as the American Badass was the best it ever was, and would hate to see him revert back to mind numbingly slow offense and no selling everyone but Stone Cold.

Rando.........nobody is above the title.

Anyways.......he had the same mannerisms and what not he just looked like an undead Cowboy. I guess I can live with it if not for the fact that I don't have to hear him scream about respect and his yard for the next year.

I fucking loved it. Really, I did. It adds a whole spin to the charachter. The SLIGHTLY remixed music was cool, too, with what sounded like a horn of some sort. If only he wasn't on Smackdown, I'd probably be a lot more into it, but it definitely gets my seal of approval. -Jim

The look was a letdown. I watched it at the friends house with a lot of marks.

When Paul Bearer belted "OHHHHHHH NO" everyone in the basement went quiet and then began clapping more so then we did for Taker.

I liked it enough though. The getup should have been way different though.

Who liked the entrance?

Doesn't anyone 'get it'.

Not reverting back to Old School Taker is a good thing, because it'd be illogical. After 4 years of being 'normal', he suddenly does the whole routine again just because he spent a month in a coffin (which is pretty extreme I guess, but still.)

The fact he's a mix of Deadman and BikerTaker is more realistic, which in the long run is good because it means less of these 'supernatural happenings' which need to stay back in 1994.

And if you re-watch the match, it plays out perfectly. Taker wrestles just like he did before Survivor Series, which is the natural thing to do. He also feels pain and sells. Then, he gets hit with a finisher...and BAM, Deadman Taker kicks in, and he goes through the short routine.

I for one am digging HybridTaker.

For what I saw, he just looked like he returned as Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry.

Eddie wears a big ass hat, duster, and even a bandana on his head. I don't see much difference between them.

Well, it was certainly something I wasn't expecting.....

I think that he hasn't even gotten new attire yet. Maybe we will see the full change on SD.
