"This summer, Lollapalooza will embody the spirit of the gypsy! Our buses of artisans sleeping over in each and every city will spread the sense of exhilaration," founder Perry Farrell said. "The days and nights will be filled with mischief." Modest Mouse, The Polyphonic Spree, and The String Cheese Incident are also confirmed for the summer trek. A full lineup and specific tour dates will be announced shortly. Along with the hot lineup and lower ticket prices, organizers promise the festival will enable the masses to participate in cutting edge technology and culture, while encouraging increased environmental consciousness and political awareness and offering the opportunity to affect change in a positive way.

I can't say I'm a religious listener to any of the bands on the tour so far, but nonetheless, it'll be better than Ozzfest.

I had to put up with hours, nay, days worth of their shit when I was exposed to pedigreed hippies in college. What made it all the worse is that it seems the majority of what I heard was just the same songs, and live versions of the same songs, all of which sounded the same. I'd rather hear a cd of the remaining members of The Grateful Dead say the phrase "We're hippies" over and over, because that's more or less SCI's formula.

" lol this is the second go-round for 2 of those bands as well sonic youth headlined in 1995 (with hole, cypress hill, bosstones, sinead occonnor (replaced by elastica), beck, jesus lizard, pavement) and flaming lips played in 1994 on the smaller stage

I've been quite spoiled concert-wise as of late, and I don't want to spend too much money, but that Flaming Lips/Morrisey/Sonic Youth/Modest Mouse combo is beckoning. No idea right now...the Lollapalooza page is still all 2003. The press release says it will be considerably cheaper, but no solid details. Whatever the story turns out to be...the lineup is el dandy so far, more bands to come....I dont plan to miss it.

The July 17-18 shows will be available May 2 at www.bgp.com and all Ticketmaster outlets. The lineup for July 17 features previously announced acts Morrissey, Sonic Youth, Modest Mouse, Le Tigre and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club as well as new additions The Von Bondies, Broken Social Scene, The Walkmen, Wolf Eyes, Danger Mouse, The Datsuns, Bumblebeez 81 and more. The String Cheese Incident, The Flaming Lips, Gomez, and The Polyphonic Spree top the bill on July 18. They'll be joined by The Thrills, The Coup, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Elbow, Wheat and others. Both days will feature the "organic electro-dub-breakbeat grooviness" of DJ Peretz, a.k.a. Lollapalooza founder/guiding force Perry Farrell. The traveling festival will kick off July 14-15 near Seattle at Auburn, Wash.'s White River Amphitheatre. Although most of the newly announced acts are confirmed only for San Francisco, you can bet most of them will be coming along for more Lolla dates. As promised, ticket prices are lower this year - $29.50 per day for general admission and $49.50 for reserved seating, with special two-day general admission passes going for $50.
