The OAO NBA Playoffs/Finals Thread

That would suck, especially for Minnesota fans. I'd also like for them get past the first round, if only so we don't have to hear about them not making it ever again. I'm so sick of hearing about them never winning, I can only imagine Minnesota fans hate it just as much.

Would I then be the only one who finds it hilarious that Minny can't get out of the first round if they lose this series to Denver?

Nothing against Denver, but it would be extremely dissappointing that a team with Garnett, Sprewell, and Cassell (whom is having a career season) couldn't manage to get through the first round.

That Houston game was good. Too bad the Rockets couldn't pull out a win. I don't see them surviving game 5 in LA.

And whats up with this "Its not a series until the road game wins" quote? Pat Riley said it and now everybody is talking about it. Its getting annoying and I don't even understand the quote anyways. If the series goes to game 7 with the home team winning everygame, is it not considered a series?

I've noticed them using that quote. To me, it seems like a stupid marketing gimmick being used to try to get people fired up about the closeout games for NJ and San Antonio.

I thought it was a good game as well. Jackson was amazing on the boards, and Mobley came up big in the late quarters. It really hurts Houston though. They held 3 of the "fab four" under 20 points, but when it counted Kobe turned it on defensively and offensively. I think Houston can win another game, but I don't see them winning 2 in LA. Too bad.

Houston's problem in a nutshell is that Steve Francis is a bumbling idiot. Dude turned the ball over almost every possession down the stretch in OT and that's inexcusible in the Playoffs.

Francis was the total opposite of what he was in the game that he won. Another problem were so many bricked 3 pointers. After the first quarter or so, they had so many nice looks at the basket but couldn't make any of them. It really killed them that they were ice cold beyond the arc.

DAMN IT!!! Oh well they went further than anyone would have thought they would in the beginning of the year. Tough playoffs but we will be back next season for another run at it. One more time just for good measure for this year GO NEW YORK GO NEW YORK GO!!! We will be back next year!!!

Thanks.

Spurs finished off Memphis, sweeping them. To be honest, I'm surprised. I thought this series would go 5, 6 at the most. Parker was great yet again. If a team is going to beat LA, the Spurs are that team. They'll be heading into that series on a 15 game win streak.

I have to say that Hubie Brown became one of my favorite people ever tonight. His post game interview on TNT was pure class and he deserved all the success he got this year. Hopefully he decides to return again next year because the NBA needs guys like him in the league.

Ugly Stat of the Day: In these playoffs, Shaquille O'Neal is shooting 30.9% from the free throw line (13-for-42).

Ugly Stat of the Day, Vol. 2: While the Knicks were getting beasted in the paint by one Kenyon Martin, Dikembe Mutombo averaged 9.5 minutes per game, including 2 minutes in Game 3 and zero in Game 4.

Game 5 will be the end for Houston...I'm more interested in seeing if Malone can maintain his shooting touch...and if the Fish, GP, Kobe, Malone, Shaq lineup can gel enough to play the kind of defense needed to beat SA (which I doubt). My prediction is SA in 6 or LA in 7.

I really hope the league doesn't fuck around and start LA/SA series on sunday or something like that. If LA takes care of Houston by Tues or Wed, the SA series should start on Thurs or Fri. I hate it when they wait until Sunday to start a series when it could've been started several days earlier.

It's looking like the Nuggets have some fight in them. Can the T-Wolves make the kill?

The Kings couldn't play much worse than they did in Game 3 against the Mavs, but will they step up to stop the offensive rebounding and knock out the turnovers? Doubt it. Mavs in 6.

The Pacers are hoping Miami finishes off the Hornets soon because they don't want the 7-10 day layoff that'll leave them stale.

The bullshit about that is that in the good old days, sweeping someone in a series gave you an advantage because you got games off. Now, with their sceduling, sweeping means shit because the other team can go 7games and still get 4-5 days off thus killing the whole advantage of finishing off a team early thing. Goddamn NBA.

I say Spurs in 5 if the meet up.

I think it's safe to stop saying "if" now.

I never stop saying if until a series is over. remember...I am a suns fan.

Damn suns having 3-1 leads over Houston 2 goddamn years in a goddamned row and blowing the goddamned leads.

I think the Lakers will do fine. Duncan can't handle both Shaq and Malone defensively.
