I think the rule is that networks that down own the rights can't show highlights until the event has been finished for 15 hours. And even then, they can only show a few minutes at a time. They can show the ever exciting still photo, though.

UGH, I am with Anglesault in his bashing of the Little League WS. Who cares about these 12 year olds? I really don't want to see a 12 year old cry because he struck out on National TV.

PLUS, I want to watch Around the Horn but I can't because of LLWS.

But on my local CBS news, there were highlights of the Men's basketball game that ended a few hours prior.

I'd assume local affiliates have no restrictions on airing the footage.

Here's what I dug up upon further research...

NBC paid $740 million for the rights to the Olympics, so highlights are embargoed. Non-NBC affiliates can't show highlights until 24 hours after an event. That means still photos and commentary by everyone else. NBC is selling 30-second ads for $740,000 and hopes to bring in $1 billion in revenue.

I do. That's quality TV.

Did you try ESPN2 or ESPNNEWS?

I dunno if this falls on ESPN or NFL Films and the damn Sabol family, but I've been watching those Top 25 shows ESPN has been airing, and for every sport they have footage for, they'll play the full footage...

....except the NFL, where you'll have to be content with still photos and maybe an occasional audio call

Well Tony and Wilbon were finally on the show together after being apart most of the summer. They really need to drop the show if they continue with Tony and Wilbon hardly ever being on together.

That's a problem on the NFL's end.

I'm not so sure about that

I've been watching FSN's answers to ESPN's "list" shows, and they have NFL footage for all their stuff

They can get any of the Sports Reporters crew to fill in for Tony and or Wilbon and I'd be fine with it personally. Just get rid of Skip Bayless and Steven A. Smith, for all that is holy and evil in this world, just remove those 2.

That Hustle films looks absolutely terrible. If they paint Paul Janszen as a sympathetic character, this film loses all crediblity.

"Are you sure you want to do this?"

Riiiiight. It's obvious where their source material is coming from, and it stinks to high heaven.

This is just another case of ESPN writing a complete hitpiece on someone they don't like and disguising it as a movie.

Today from SportsCenter:

:::football player runs the ball to the endzone:::

"And just like the Black Eyed Peas, he's runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin'..."

and

:::home run is hit:::

"And the bat don't dance, it just pulls up it's pants and does the rock away. Lean back."

Sort of like the Joe Swanson story in Family Guy.

Most of the jokes they make on Sportscenter are retarded, but when they showed some play by Coco Crisp and the caption said "Coco Beware" I'll admit I laughed. Now if only they had spelled it with the the K.

Flipped over to the ESPN 25th Anniversary show to see if I'd get lucky and catch a cool, nostalgic highlight package. Instead I flip over as they play a rap song about Chris Berman and Berman giving a shout out to the rapper who did it after the segment ends.

There were actually some really good segments on the show. My favorite was showing all of the anchors in their pre-ESPN days. Steve Levy was a weatherman and they were all mostly local news anchors.

They also did a whole segment on the This is Sportscenter ads and bloopers, which as you can imagine, heavily featured Charley Steiner.

It was the perfect show to DVR and skip the crap and watch the good parts, because the good parts were quite good.

Steve Levy's stuff on the SC special was just tremendous. Him cutting a promo on I believe it was NYU in the pre-SC Anchor segment and the "bulging dick" was GOLD. Overall, the special was great, yeah the raps were a little over the top but I could deal with it.

Stuart Scott: Charley thinks you're a Top 50 boxer...

Holyfield: In the world?

Scott: ...in Georgia.

Holyfield: (clenches teeth)

Airing that commercial in its entirety completely made tonight's show for me.

In another desperate grap at money, ESPN has made their MLB chats "insider" as well. What a load of crap. 75% of the time, the analysts don't have a better answer then I could have provided (the other 25% is Neyer). The next time the labor contract comes up, I don't want to hear a fucking word about how athletes are greedy.
