DMann2003 Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 I picked up "Get Born" a few days ago based on the first 2 singles and I really like it, it's a nice mesh of 3 chord rock and Oasis-ish ballads. Or am I once again liking a band everyone here thinks stinks?

Adam Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 Jet is AWESOME. 'Get Born' is one of the best albums from last year, and definately in my top 3. I am yet ot see them live, but as soon as they come down to my state, I'm there with bells on. My favourite Australian band.

On Jet: I don't know if the "they're a glorified cover band" criticism that everyone throws around is fully justified, but they don't do a helluva lot for me. There are some definite chinks in their retro-armor. "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" was a bit catchy at first, but then I listened to "Lust for Life" three times in a row and forgot about it entirely.

It's not hard to put Jet above the rest though, considering all of Australia's main bands are fucking shit. *Espicially* Powderfinger, Grinspoon and all the other fine pieces of mediocrity. It is the biggest piece of shit have ever heard, and it won all the ARIAs. Hell, Delta F'N Goodrem shits on that CD (and I HATE Delta Goodrem). Vulture Street by Powderfinger was a great album, it deserved its awards. But Diorama didn't.

Agreed, some of the tunes are pretty catchy, but their appeal wears off (at least on me) very quickly.Powderfinger had an alright debut album, and it's been downhill ever since. I didn't understand the Diorama love either, as I thought everything on that album was just watered down bullshit. UYI

I'm not saying that I don't like them, because they've written some damn good tunes, but it just sucks that as soon as they surfaced, it was in the mainstream.

I heard some more of their albums and it turns out they copy a ton of riffs on there, some aren't quite as noticable as Are You Gonna Be My Girl, but it's still annoying to me. A funny thing I saw one time was MTV2 had a list of top 100 guitar riffs and had that Jet song at 72 then Lust For Life right above it at 71. How did they decide which one was better?

I sure as hell hope that list means list of top 100 guitar riffs of songs being played on MTV/MTV2 today, or in the last year-5 years, because I sure as hell don't think either of those belong in the top 100 guitar riffs OF ALL TIME. Can't you pretty much just do a switch with an AC/DC song anyways?
