Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 For what ? A movie career ? Hosting MTV Awards ? NEW YORK - Say goodbye to Jimmy Fallon (news) on "Saturday Night Live." Fallon announced that he was leaving the comedy show at the end of his "Weekend Update" segment with Tina Fey (news) on Saturday, the show's last original episode of the season. It was no surprise to NBC executives. "He had made it clear that he wanted to move on and we wish him all the best," Jeff Zucker, president of the NBC Universal Television Group, said Monday. "SNL" gave Fallon a fond send-off, with a long skit featuring one of his signature characters, a nasally voiced and obnoxious radio disc jockey. Fallon, 29, joined "Saturday Night Live" in 1998.
razazteca Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 So he can get a sitcom just like Tracy that will be cancelled in 4 weeks?
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 WHAT THE FUCK ? Tracy got cancelled ? Bastards.
Mecha Mummy Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 "SNL" gave Fallon a fond send-off, with a long skit featuring one of his signature characters, a nasally voiced and obnoxious radio disc jockey. *Shudder.* That also happens to be his worst character.
yankovic fan Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 I like Fallon and his characters, but... I don't see him branching out to be a decent actor. He has a hard time keeping a straight face when on camera.
treble Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 He could probably make a lot of money going from town to town doing his version of Conan's entrance.
Shanghai Kid Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Holy s***, Tracy got canceled? That was a good show!
DrVenkman PhD Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Hopefully we'll still be able to get the Nick Burns movie. I always figured that character was perfect for a shitty SNL movie... it's a normal guy who's sketches are essentially the same thing with different people (Nick getting upset at people not understanding computers) that would be turned into 90 minutes of us learning about his depressing homelife outside the office.
DrVenkman PhD Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 And where does this leave Weekend Update? Just Tina? Tina and someone new? Someone new and no Tina? Two new people? I'd like Tina and Parnel, myself. Chris is great.
bob_barron Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 I've been so sad about this for two days now. And no I'm not being sarcastic. It was time for him to go but damn- this just sucks
Mecha Mummy Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Shit, Nick Burns. THAT'S who they should have had Fallon do instead of the stupid DJ.
Ted the Poster Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 No more Jarrett's room! Yay!!! While my personal pick is Seth I think that anybody, with the exception of Sanz and Finesse, would be great on WU.
Scroby Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 I'm just glad I wasn't the only one who found him annoying.
Mecha Mummy Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 No more Jarrett's room! Yay!!! While my personal pick is Seth I think that anybody, with the exception of Sanz and Finesse, would be great on WU. I also wouldn't want to see Maya Rudolph on. I could buy anyone else on the current cast sans maybe Kenan on Update, though.
Guest Redhawk Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 They might go back to just one person doing Weekend Update, a la Norm McDonald / Colin Quinn / etc. In that instance, I say just let Fey do it by herself.
Jobber of the Week Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 No more Nick Burns + No more Brian Fellowes = No more JOTW watching SNL. And that radio DJ bit was nowhere near as good as "The Quiet Storm" (with the guy who kept hitting that sound effect and annoying everyone, LOL) or the NPR women.
Adam Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Damn, I really liked Tracey and Jimmy. I don't get the Fallon-hate by everyone, I would have thought everyone liked him, he seems to be popular. I know I've always liked him. And JOTW, Brian Fellows was some funny shit.
haVoc Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 SNL should find someone new and unknown to replace Jimmy on WU.

On Fallon: I don't outright hate him. I thought Nick Burns was a funny character, as were the Boston Teens and Jarret's Room before they got overexposed, and he's a better impressionist than most think. But he broke out of character so fucking often that it was hard to like him this season. And Brian Fellows was great the first couple times before it got redundant and unfunny.
DerangedHermit Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 SNL should find someone new and unknown to replace Jimmy on WU. And good.
bob_barron Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 My thoughts on Weekend Update: Chris Parnell would be horrible and would bomb badly. He isn't as "fun" as Jimmy is which would piss off everyone and WU would just be a snoozefest. Tina solo would work even though people may not like the lack of fun bits. I'm confident in her joke writing ability that it'd work. Will and Seth are the two best candidates for a co-anchorship. They're both very funny and would be able to do a lot of the fun stuff that FF were famous for. And JOTW- They hadn't done Nick Burns in 2.5 years
MDH257 Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Of the current cast, my vote is for Will Forte to replace Jimmy on Update. Although Bob's been campaigning for Seth Myers for so long that I'd be okay with that choice. If it's someone new I hope they get someone who actually follows the news and brings a little more bite to update.
bob_barron Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Will would be great- even though he seems a bit too weird to do the joke part. I know he would come up with some great fun bits for Update.
