For what ? A movie career ? Hosting MTV Awards ?

NEW YORK - Say goodbye to Jimmy Fallon (news) on "Saturday Night Live."

Fallon announced that he was leaving the comedy show at the end of his "Weekend Update" segment with Tina Fey (news) on Saturday, the show's last original episode of the season.

It was no surprise to NBC executives.

"He had made it clear that he wanted to move on and we wish him all the best," Jeff Zucker, president of the NBC Universal Television Group, said Monday.

"SNL" gave Fallon a fond send-off, with a long skit featuring one of his signature characters, a nasally voiced and obnoxious radio disc jockey.

Fallon, 29, joined "Saturday Night Live" in 1998.

*Shudder.* That also happens to be his worst character.

Hopefully we'll still be able to get the Nick Burns movie.

I always figured that character was perfect for a shitty SNL movie... it's a normal guy who's sketches are essentially the same thing with different people (Nick getting upset at people not understanding computers) that would be turned into 90 minutes of us learning about his depressing homelife outside the office.

No more Jarrett's room! Yay!!!

While my personal pick is Seth I think that anybody, with the exception of Sanz and Finesse, would be great on WU.

I also wouldn't want to see Maya Rudolph on. I could buy anyone else on the current cast sans maybe Kenan on Update, though.

They might go back to just one person doing Weekend Update, a la Norm McDonald / Colin Quinn / etc. In that instance, I say just let Fey do it by herself.

Damn, I really liked Tracey and Jimmy. I don't get the Fallon-hate by everyone, I would have thought everyone liked him, he seems to be popular. I know I've always liked him. And JOTW, Brian Fellows was some funny shit.

On Fallon: I don't outright hate him. I thought Nick Burns was a funny character, as were the Boston Teens and Jarret's Room before they got overexposed, and he's a better impressionist than most think. But he broke out of character so fucking often that it was hard to like him this season.

And Brian Fellows was great the first couple times before it got redundant and unfunny.

My thoughts on Weekend Update:

Chris Parnell would be horrible and would bomb badly. He isn't as "fun" as Jimmy is which would piss off everyone and WU would just be a snoozefest.

Tina solo would work even though people may not like the lack of fun bits. I'm confident in her joke writing ability that it'd work.

Will and Seth are the two best candidates for a co-anchorship. They're both very funny and would be able to do a lot of the fun stuff that FF were famous for.

And JOTW-

They hadn't done Nick Burns in 2.5 years

Of the current cast, my vote is for Will Forte to replace Jimmy on Update. Although Bob's been campaigning for Seth Myers for so long that I'd be okay with that choice. If it's someone new I hope they get someone who actually follows the news and brings a little more bite to update.
