The Decemberists Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Sorry, I just needed to get that off my chest...
Henry Spencer Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Yeah, well, I think The Streets are terrific. So there.
Guest Choken One Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I hate the streets too... I mean seriously, The garbage can on the corner is just flat out annoying and does it REALLY need to be concrete? Apshalt would help so much more and what's with the god damn yellow lines...whatever happened to the streets keeping themselfs pure.
KTID Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I absolutely despise The Streets. What makes it even worse is that at the T In The Park festival last year, my friends made me miss The Charlatans in order to see The fookin' Streets!!
Nighthawk Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Many sentiments expressed here are grammatically incorrect, as The Streets is one person.
Steviekick Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 The Streets is (that bit of proper grammar was for you IDRM ) amazing. You are just a hater.
muzz Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 You're fit but you know it. I also like the Streets.
Guest Evolution Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 (insert road joke here) I, too, enjoy Mike Skinner.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Dizzee Rascal's pretty awesome; Roots Manuva is okay, I guess. I don't care about The Streets one way or the other.
MrRant Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I don't know who The Streets are.... but I too hate them.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Oh god, get the fuck out of the thread.
MrRant Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Get the fuck out of my life Schwimmer. I see you hatin'.
Mystery Eskimo Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I hate Skinner too. He needs a good kicking.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Dizzee Rascal is far greater. This, still, is okay.
Guest MissMattitude Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 All I seem to hear about is how genius Skinner's lyrics are: "I'm not trying to pull you Even though I would like to I think you are really fit You're fit but my gosh don't you know it" Genius? Ok...
nl5xsk1 Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 The Streets is a-ok in my book. I liked Pirate Material better than the new one, but this one might grow on me. And MissMattitude - while I won't necessarily say I agree that his lyrics are 'genius - it's kind of bullshit to take one part of one song and say that nothing he does is great. Any band/artist has some shit lyrics or songs. No one is perfect.
Murmuring Beast Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 He's awful and Harry Hill is a genius.
DCMaximo Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Saw the Streets at Reading- absolutely laughable tat. And "Has It Come To This?" is so god-awful that I thought it was a novelty single at first. Few herbs and a bit of Benson But don't forger the Rizla, Lean like the Tower of Pisa Liza, I'll raise yer, And this is the day in the life of a Geezer I'm giving your bird them feelings Touch yer toes and touch the ceiling We walk the tightrope of street cred Keep my dogs fed, all jungle all garage heads You're listening to The Streets You'll bear witness to some amazing feats Bravery in the face of defeat All line up and grab yer seat Cos Tony's got a new motor SR Nova driving like a joyrider Fucking terrible. "Don't Mug Yourself" was good though
PLAGIARISM! Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Roots Manuva > Dizzee Rascal, Though I want new material. The Streets is good, fit but you know it is awful but works in the context of the album, it's a story.
k thx Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 The Streets stuff is good when its mellow, crap when it goes all generic garage. The new album suffers a bit for the concept (see "Such A Twat") but Dry Your Eyes Mate is amazing for the type of song it is. Brilliant lyrics. Weak Become Heroes off the first album is goodness too. At the end of the day, you either love it or hate it, which is what great music does. As for British rap, it just doesn't fit in with the UK accent. Trip-Hop is more where its at. Faithless are cool too.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I like The Streets. Haven't heard the new album yet, mostly because I've been listening to Dizzee Rascal again, pretty endlessly for the past few days. Oh, those Brits, always fighting for my earspace.
PLAGIARISM! Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 I like The Streets. Haven't heard the new album yet, mostly because I've been listening to Dizzee Rascal again, pretty endlessly for the past few days. Oh, those Brits, always fighting for my earspace. We do try. Sometime in the next 5 years, I hope to God you have heard the name 'The Atoms of Punishment'. We're coming.
razazteca Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Is the Streets a joke band like the Darkness?
Guest TheGregWitul Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 The Streets (Skinner) is incredible, especially his latest album. As a concept album, there are a couple tracks that don't really work that well on their own, but the first four songs and the final two are brilliant stuff. 'Empty Cans' is incredible, and while Skinner's 'flow' may come off awkward at times, the man has talent, and is one of a kind... That said, he is shit live (For the most part)... j.
Murmuring Beast Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Basically, the music media are scared to death of missing the joke or that this guy might be a lyrical genius, so they give the album 5-stars just to be sure. If one magazine slates it whilst the others back it, it'll look really bad on their part, so everyone chickens out and calls it the album of the year. Not that it's any good or anything. It's just that no-one has the balls to say what they want about music for fear of looking unhip.
KTID Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Is the Streets a joke band like the Darkness? Almost entirely.
Corey_Lazarus Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Where the streets have no name... And every generation, across the nation Is dancin' in the streets... CHAOS AD! TANKS ON THE STREETS! ...sorry...
