alfdogg 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2004 Latest news on Karl Malone Karl Malone's return to the NBA could be months away -- if he comes back at all. The Los Angeles Lakers said Friday they don't know if the 41-year-old forward will play this season. Malone, who had surgery on his right knee at the end of June, is a free agent and reportedly is being pursued by several teams. "Our understanding is he's not going to be ready to return for a couple months," Lakers spokesman John Black said. "We're hopeful he does decide to play another season and he decides to play for us." Malone's agent, Dwight Manley, refused comment. In July, he disputed reports that Malone had decided to retire. The second-leading scorer in NBA history, Malone played 18 seasons with the Utah Jazz before joining the Lakers last summer.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2004 I think its crazy that so many teams are looking at Malone like he's a major impact, playoff difference making player. It's ironic that he finally gets coverage and attention just as his career is comiong to an end.
nogoodnick 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 Malone still has got enough juice in the tank for another run. A team like San Antonio could benefit from his presence as a backup for TD and hes not afraid to be loud and physical. He would also be an uprgrade at the PF position for almost every team in the East. Playing along side Shaq would be a devastating frontline in the powderpuff Atlantic division. Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2004 Also, the Rockets sign Derrick Zimmerman to be training camp fodder, and Ryan Bowen to be the backup 2/3 until Sura gets healthy. I see Van Gundy is going for the most interchangeable team in the NBA. It seems like everyone outside of Yao and Dikembe can play at least 2 positions. alfdogg 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2004 Bad news for the Clippers: ... Well, um...news for the Clippers: Kerry Kittles will miss training camp. I didn't read the article because it's one of those newspaper sites you have to register for and I didn't feel like doing that. But that was the article heading. Also, Portland signed Theo Ratliff to an extension. The article said he'd make $46 million over the next 4 years.

Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 I had almost forgotten about Grant Hill's annual injury saga. So what's the over/under on how long it'll take for his ankle to explode again, even with limited minutes i'll say he goes around 20 games before he rejoins his usual home of the Inujred Reserve List, though i'm sure at this point Orlando would probably consider anything they can get out of him a bonus. Steviekick 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 It looks like the good people of Sacramento are already having an underwhelming performance from Greg Ostertag.... SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Sacramento Kings center Greg Ostertag will be out four-to-six weeks after breaking his right hand in a fall at his home Saturday night. Ostertag signed with the Kings in July after nine seasons with the Utah Jazz. He is expected to be the backup to All-Star center Brad Miller. The Kings, who have lost key players to significant injuries in each of the last four seasons, also will be without starting guard Doug Christie throughout training camp. Christie is recovering from plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The Kings depart for a preseason trip to China next week. And I thank the Kings for taking the off the Jazz' hands. They propably would have wound up resigning him.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 from FoxSports.com's Dimesmack column: After being on hiatus for most of the summer, Peter Vecsey came back strong yesterday. His most interesting piece of news was that in their first scrimmage as teammates, Kenyon Martin and Nene were getting a little too physical in the paint and tempers flared to the point where Kenyon reportedly punched Nene in the grill, opening up a cut that required stitches. That would be a phenomenal steel cage match. It didn't take KMart too long to start fighting with his teammates.

Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2004 Well it's good to see the Clippers start the new season the way they ended it, with their starting back court out with injury. Marko Jaric broke his left thumb and will be out a few weeks. Also they got one step closer to renaming themselves the L.A. Blue Devils by signing Trajan Langdon. Krankor 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. -- Eddie Griffin is getting another shot at the NBA. Griffin, a former Houston and New Jersey forward better known for his trouble off the court, agreed to terms with the Minnesota Timberwolves, the team announced Tuesday. This could be a big addition to Minnesota if Griffin comes to play and doesn't get in trouble with the law.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 The question is facile. The most games played will be by the Mailman. The Mailman, Karl Malone, that is. He should be back with Kobe and the rest of the Los Angeles Lakers in no time, ready to get back at those so-called "bad-boys," the Detroit Pistons. The Los Angeles Lakers are God's team. alfdogg 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 If this Los Angeles Lakers basketball team wants to have a successful basketball season, then their star basketball player Kobe Bryant will need to share the basketball just a little bit more. Once Karl Malone's injuries heal and he is able to return to the basketball court, this basketball team wil be able to contend with any basketball team in any basketball game on any given night. But don't sleep on my Knicks, they're a great young basketball team with a lot of basketball skills, and should be a tremendous basketball season for this great basketball franchise. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Bryant puts in extra work as Lakers open camp By BERNIE WILSON, AP Sports Writer October 5, 2004 SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Kobe Bryant has a new image to uphold now that he's the lone superstar with the Los Angeles Lakers. He made sure to show it on the opening day of training camp. Bryant was still on the court long after his teammates had retreated to the sidelines late Tuesday afternoon. He shot jumpers, free throws and ran sprints. The Lakers are clearly Bryant's team to lead. ``That's my role. I enjoy it,'' Bryant said after doing his extra work at the University of San Diego's Jenny Craig Pavilion. ``It's fun kind of setting the bar for how hard we work and the intensity level of practice and things like that, competitiveness.'' Bryant was in a good mood, but seemed to tense up for a moment after being asked if he missed seeing Shaquille O'Neal running up and down the court. ``No, I mean, I'm sure you'll get the same answer if you ask Devean George,'' he said. ``We just moved on. We have a new ballclub.'' Do they ever. Not only is Shaq gone, but so are Derek Fisher, Gary Payton and Karl Malone from the team that lost in five games to the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Finals in June. And there's a different feeling to this training camp, the first under coach Rudy Tomjanovich, who replaced Phil Jackson. A year ago, Bryant was facing sexual assault chargers in Colorado. He showed up for camp in Honolulu a day late, out of shape and admittedly ``terrified'' about his future. He had to leave a day early to get to Eagle, Colo., for a court appearance. Bryant is free to focus on basketball this fall after prosecutors dropped the case last month after the woman who accused him of rape refused to participate in the trial. ``This is a great new opportunity for not only me, but for all of us,'' Bryant said. ``I'm really just looking forward to it, man. I feel great. I feel great physically, mentally, emotionally.'' Bryant said he sometimes thinks back to last year. ``When I do, I just count my blessings, because I've seen many long days. I'm just thankful that they're all behind now,'' he said. Forward Luke Walton, who went to high school across the street from the training camp site, said Bryant ``is definitely focused and ready to go.'' ``Kobe knows more about the game than any person I've ever played with,'' said Walton, a second-year pro and the son of Hall of Famer Bill Walton. ``He works as hard or harder than any person I've played with. He's as good a role model as you can get.'' (riiiiiiiight) After so much offseason upheaval, Bryant will be busy trying to lead a group that includes nine new players. ``The expectations for us this season aren't very high at all,'' Bryant said. ``I'm relishing that challenge and my teammates do, too. It's something that we've talked about. We look forward to the start of the season and trying to prove people wrong.'' Tomjanovich was eager to get going. ``We got here at the gym, the coaches did, two hours before the players,'' he said. ``We're just happy to get started.'' Tomjanovich played for the San Diego Rockets for one season before the team moved to Houston in 1971. ``This is like I've gone full circle,'' he said. ``It's great.''
