Anyone know if the other cities are locked at the start, like the other games?

From what I understand, yes, the other two cities are locked until a certain point in the game, and trying to leave to those locked places by any means of transportation will result in an un-erasable four-star wanted level. Not sure if that's true, but that's what I understand is supposed to be in this game.

Yea..that's true...BUT, ITS FUCKING AWESOME.

 

Yea, that sounded 'markish' but so what. The bridge is blocked, so I just swam over to the other side, and with how huge the game is, you don't just go 'straight from one place to the other' but you instead, have to actually go through this like, whole country side even bigger then the cities...and well, just trying to escape the police with a four star level up and down country roads/mountains, that is, awesome.

I was at my local mall looking for a birthday present for my dad )got him a Ray Nitshcke bobble-head) and I walked over to Gamestop. There's a crowd at the place, and they have GTA San Andreas. I have to pound my way to a copy and got it at approximetely 6:00 PM. Came home, and I must admit: the greatest game that I've ever played. It is a perfect game that everybody should play. I'm only 21% in but I love it. Some flaws with glitches, but that gets overshadowed. I was able to develop my guy into a black Punisher (Tom Jane build.)

 

I'll give it a 10/10 for sheer greatness.

Just have to say, wow, 21% already? My stats say, 5:45 playing time, and I only have 10%. So how long have you been playing? Plus, I'm sure it'll be just like Vice City, and even if you were to complete the story or something, it'd still be like only 85%, because you still have jumps, tags, etc.

I only did the first mission as work and a focus group ($75 for 2 hours of talking! Awesome) kept the game out of my hands until 8:30, but I spent the first hour doing nothing relevant at all. Lots of fun. Running around the countryside, I found some water and decided to try the new swmming. Big mistake, since apparently I was trying to swim past the closed roads and out of nowhere I had a 3 star wanted level. No clue why that happened until I read the posts here.

 

My biggest problem with the very first mission wasn't being shot, but 2 wheel vehicles were one of my achiles heels in Vice City and so far it's no different. I just kept crashing my bike and flying off, getting run over by cars, then getting shot once or twice to die. I also kept racing my bike past the guys I was supposed to keep up with, which was a problem. Only took 3 tries, though.

I'm proud to say I strolled into Blockbuster this morning around 10, picked up a copy of the game (and I DIDN'T pre-order, mind you) without any problems. Oh, and because I traded four games, I also got $29 bucks in store credit, despite the fact they were all at least 2 years old (some older).

 

I think I got a deal.

 

I got to play the game for about an hour this afternoon before having to head out, but it was a lot of fun. A few random thoughts:

 

-After punching a hooker, I was floored to see her whip out a gun and annihilate me (where was she hiding THAT?).

 

-As previously mentioned, the dirty language is EXTREMELY frequent, but I think it adds realism. Great variety in commentary too. Doesn't seem like stuff repeats nearly as much (maybe that will change as I play more).

 

-Great soundtrack.

 

-The characters thus far are all pretty cool. In Vice City, I hated Lance Vance with a passion, figured he was making a heel turn at some point and was waiting for that time so I could finally get rid of him. Thus far, everybody in the gang seems tolerable.

 

-I think it is pretty smart how they have you blocked off from going to other parts of the map right away. I haven't gotten to a point to where you get to go elsewhere yet, but there's a built-in reason from the opening storyline why you have to stay put, what with the cops keeping an eye on your every move, waiting to bust you. If you flee to a different city, they're on your ass.

 

I cannot wait to get to the good stuff.

I bought it yesterday, and its great the only thing I don't like is how CJ reacts slowly when you pull someone out the car. I like the SIMS type feel to it, I got dude tatted up already. The Soundtrack is great lots of variety of stations and songs, I listen to the 2 rap ones the Bounce/G funk and Reggae, and R&B stations. Ryder looks like Eazy-E and that one Crack dealer looks like Ja Rule.

I notice that when you have a 1 star level, the cop still runs into walls. Graphically the game seems the same as the previous one. I wonder what the prize is for never being in the hospital or jail or failing a mission.

Does this game have an option to smooth the graphics like Vice City did? It has the same wavy/blurry look that Vice City had before you went to display and changed the graphics setting, although I don't see that option listed anywhere in San Andreas pause menu......

I had that same problem, I am not sure what the deal is but here is what I did.

 

When you need to respond, instead of just pressing to the right one time, just keep on pressing it over and over and over again. That's the only way I got it to actually let me try to dance. Every other time when I'd just press it once that chick would tell me to dance, then nothing would happen.
