Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 I can already hear Michael Cole saying sarcastically "yeah, this guy thinks he's SOOOOOOOOO cool." Funny cus I promise you he will say that.
Guest INXS Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Def very similar to Ramon's pre-debut vignettes. I kinda thought the vignette was cool in an old school kind of way but, well, seriously this gimmick has wrestlecrap written all over it.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 I was going to say that he has to fall on his ass like the Shockmaster did, but it's a taped show, so if he did, they would either re-shoot it, or keep it in on purpose to make it a joke right out of the gate. Well, he could debut on PPV. Or, perhaps he'll screw up during the taping, then they'll re-tape the same segment in the same night, like I think happened with Jones. The Niggardly King 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Is he learned in the OVW moveset? Can he at least do the dropkick or the Test kick? The sad thing is, that his move set is even more basic than the average OVW call up

EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Maybe it's more like Razor Ramon 2004. Really. I didn't get to watch all of it but, what I saw reminded me of Razor and the vignettes he use to do before he came in to the WWF.
Guest Quik Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Y'know, we had a nice span of a fewq years without these dumbass vignettes. Shame it had to end. There's just something so lame about seeing some moron walking around in front of a camera, and then finishing his promo with "When I come to the WWE, I will [insert bland, threatening statement here]". T-minus 2 years before the company goes bankrupt.

I think it works when they actually have something unique or some kind of hook, and if it is done as a video package with slick production. Of course, a good gimmick and well-done segments like that is all for moot if a debuting guy--let's call him Hawn O'Share, absolutely sucks at his gimmick, is boring as hell in the ring, and can do nothing but "look big and scary." The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Yeah as long as there's not a giant discrepancy between the vignette and the wrestler, I sorta like them. They're cool. Val Venis had vignettes, so did Edge. Sure beats "here's Garrison Cade." But what sucks is: Sean O'Haire: "The government is just cheating you. Why don't you do something about it? I'm not telling you anything you don't already know." Josh Matthews: "Sean O'Haire is big! He looks like the kind of guy that would make you eat bugs." Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 What is it with the company trying to recreate the old stars? I'm all for waxing nostalgic, but it seems every guy on Smackdown lately is based off of someone from the past. Carlito-Razor Mordecai was a new Undertaker JBL is DiBiase, complete with a Virgil Dupree shows hints of "Model" Rick Martel ...it's like a roster of Fake Ramon's and Diesel's. Yet original characters like O'Haire get shit on or scrapped before they can fully develop.
notJames 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 Expect his finisher to be called "Carlito's Way". All other expectations for this guy should be kept pretty low, if he's as bad as everyone says. Of course, Suzuki sucks ben-wa balls, but he still has a job, so go figure.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 JBL is DiBiase, complete with a Virgil I don't consider Orlando Jordan a Virgil. Virgil was a basically a slave, where as Orlando is more of an assisant, who JBL is taking under his wing.
Promoter 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 No, no, no. Virgil was his "bodyguard" because he did not want to be touched by the "low class" who were in awe of his money and power. Virgil became a slave in 1991 when Dibase was no longer useful in the main event scene. Orlando's an assistant to........I dunno they haven't really told us. Nah, Vincent just stand there and looked cool. Never really did anything and had no real character. I consider Orlando more like Ric Flair to Evolution. Guest GrayGray Report post Posted September 1, 2004 Hmmmmmmm, just watched the vignette for the first time. Obviously I think the name sucks ass, I mean who in their right mind would actually call themselves "Carlito Carribean Cool". At least by calling him by his real name Carly Colon, he does have some name value straight off the bat. I will agree with the fact that at least this guy has a character, rather than the likes of Heidenreich (generic big man), Mark Jindrak (generic wrestler with "the look"), Garrison Gade (ditto) and Randy Orton 2002. The afro really does make a difference, it instantly sets him apart from the crowd like D-Ray 3000 in TNA and makes him recogniseable as fairly unique. The "cool" character does seem quite entertaining to say the least. Unfortunately, I believe like Kenzo Suzuki, Luther Reigns and other recent call-ups that his in-ring performances will not impress the fans. I have heard from many sources that his dark match performances have been mediocre at the absolute best. This might not matter, as John Cena is arguably one of the most over superstars on SmackDown, and his in-ring skills are quite poor. It is difficult to judge on just one interview segment whether Carlito's charisma and character will get him over. I think they definitely need to limit his in-ring activities and concentrate on developing his character to begin with. Maybe using his "coolness" to perhaps try and pick up Torrie Wilson, or as perviously suggested a weekly interview segment. I am very interested to see where SmackDown go with this character, at least it is something refreshing, even though it is a Razor Ramon rip-off.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2004 I like this guy, spitting at people who aren't cool like you is pretty funny. So you better be cool. Hopefully somewhat backs it up in the ring.
Shooting Star 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2004 I am actually really looking forward to this character it might be like a new razor ramon which was one of the most entertaining characters ever. Only time i've seen him wrestle was on the P.R vs D.R wrestling ppv a few years ago and all he did was clotheslines and bodyslams....but maybe he has improved since then. LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2004 Seriously, what's up with all the references to Razor Ramon? If there's ANY other character that has an accent and is hispanic, that automatically means he's a Razor Ramon Rip-Off???!!!! Razor Ramon was a tacky dressing cuban, who implied that he was a druglord or drug dealer. Carlito is a hispanic guy who thinks he's cool.......Wow, omg, it's Razor 2004. That's like calling Kenzo Suzuki a wannabe Tajiri because they're both japanese. At least this guy is, you know, ACTUALLY hispanic, and he won't go walking around wearing tacky ass vests, with greased up hair including elvis curl in the middle, and a toothpick in his mouth. That shit was silly what Razor was.

What's Carlos Calon ever done to garner "name value" in the states? A token Rumble appearence? "Carlito Carribean Cool" > "Carly Colon". Plus, Carly is a girl's name. Ooooh, he could team with Shannon Moore as the "sorority girls".
