DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Basically, the right opening lines can, in my opinion, make a good song even better, especially as they are the first thing your hear lyrically. Just interested as to what others think are the best opening lyrics to songs (and hoping this is deemed different enough to the "Best opening" thread). Off the top of my head, I can think of: "If you were an angel, I would cut off your wings/To keep you with me, I would do anything" (from "Untouchable" by Rialto) "Had a wife and kids in Baltimore, Jack/I went out for a ride and I never went back" (from "Hungry Heart" by Bruce Springsteen) Any other suggestions

B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2004 "Had a wife and kids in Baltimore, Jack/I went out for a ride and I never went back" (from "Hungry Heart" by Bruce Springsteen) Good one, but my favourite Bruce opener is: The screendoor slams, Mary's dress waves Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays-"Thunder Road" I got a few more: I lie in my bed/The blanket is warm This body will never be safe from harm- Jeff Buckley: "Mojo Pin" Well it's been 10 years and 1000 tears/Look at the mess I'm in A broken nose and a broken heart/An empty bottle of gin- Social Distortion: "Ball and Chain" I don't eat I just devour/Everyone in every hour All is me is all I need/And that's all that I care- Flogging Molly: "Selfish Man" He had alot to say/He had alot of nothing to say We'll miss him- Tool: "Eulogy" Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air- Pink Floyd: "Echoes" When all is said and done/I'll always be your son But all is not forgiven- Life of Agony: "This Time" Welcome to where time stands still No one leaves and no one will- Metallica: "(Welcome Home) Sanitarium" Oh I miss the kiss of treachery The shameless kiss of vanity- The Cure: "Disintegration" I heard there was a secret chord/That David played and it pleased The Lord But you don't really care for music do you?- Leonard Cohen: "Hallelujah" So, so you think you can tell?/Heaven from Hell? Blue skies from pain? Can you tell a green field?/From a cold steel rail?/A smile from a vail? Do you think you can tell?- Pink Floyd: 'Wish You Were Here" It would be wrong to ask you why/because I know what goes inside It's only half of what comes out/Isn't that what it's about? Faith No More: "Digging the Grave" How many roads must a man walk down? Before you can call him a man?- Bob Dylan: "Blowin' in the Wind" More to come.
