I have roughly $100 to blow on new CDs and I am actively looking for reccomendations. The last several albums I bought are as follows for those of you too lazy to look through the Recent Purchases thread:

Ghostface - The Pretty Toney Album

Bjork - Medulla

Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus

The Flaming Lips - Clouds Taste Metallic

Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children

Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space

Slint - Spiderland

Have at it.

Frank Zappa - Anything from 1968-1975 (Hot Rats is my personal favorite.)

Zappa works. You might also like Sonic Youth's first album.

Oh, here's a good one -- find some Residents. Not on amazon or anything, so you'll have to do some looking, but maybe someone will link you. Look them up on allmusic.com. Duck Stab is my personal favorite of what I have.

And since I know you're a Tom Waits fan... as far as crazy-good-lyric singer-song-writers go, you should DEFINITELY get The Essential Leonard Cohen.

I think that if you look in the right places, what I've recommended will only cost you half of your money.

Yeah, I was kidding, you probably wouldn't like Khanate.

Seriously though, hit up anything King Crimson did from 73-75, and Three of a Perfect Pair. Robert Fripp is about as talented as a guy with a guitar can be, and everyone else in the band (any lineup, and there are many) is pretty fantastic as well. Particuarly Adrian Belew, who joined the group in the 80's on lead vocals. He's more or less who Maynard James Keenan worships.

As far as I know, the incomparable two_tuff_toddy did nothing to set off The Upright Man, he's just like that. We had a couple yuks reading this lacerating diatribe TUM wrote about him, though. Can't remember for the life of me where it's posted, though.

If you like Ghostface, you'll love Royce da 5'9's latest album. It has that Wu Tang grittiness without all the bullshit commercialism. It should be pretty cheap and out of everyone who's reviewed on and offline, not one person disliked it.

If you're uncertain about who he is, he was the only MC to ever outshine Eminem on a track "Bad Meets Evil" on the Slim Shady LP.
