Guest Fire and Knives Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 I have roughly $100 to blow on new CDs and I am actively looking for reccomendations. The last several albums I bought are as follows for those of you too lazy to look through the Recent Purchases thread: Ghostface - The Pretty Toney Album Bjork - Medulla Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus The Flaming Lips - Clouds Taste Metallic Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space Slint - Spiderland Have at it. K.
Guest Fire and Knives Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 ...is this for my amusement or yours? K.
The Mandarin Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Check out Moby's I Like to Score and Play if you've listened to/enjoyed any one of his singles. Also get more Bjork. Dancer in the Dark on DVD perhaps?
snuffbox Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Rebecca Moore - Home Wreckordings 97-99 This is a must-have.
Guest two_tuff_toddy Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Frank Zappa - Anything from 1968-1975 (Hot Rats is my personal favorite.)
The Czech Republic Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Two Tuff Toddy, I want to know what you did to the Upright Man. Yeah go all out on Zappa or Pink Floyd
5_moves_of_doom Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Zappa works. You might also like Sonic Youth's first album. Oh, here's a good one -- find some Residents. Not on amazon or anything, so you'll have to do some looking, but maybe someone will link you. Look them up on allmusic.com. Duck Stab is my personal favorite of what I have. And since I know you're a Tom Waits fan... as far as crazy-good-lyric singer-song-writers go, you should DEFINITELY get The Essential Leonard Cohen. I think that if you look in the right places, what I've recommended will only cost you half of your money.
razazteca Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 8 ball & MJG or forget cds and buy some obscure asian dvds.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Yeah, I was kidding, you probably wouldn't like Khanate. Seriously though, hit up anything King Crimson did from 73-75, and Three of a Perfect Pair. Robert Fripp is about as talented as a guy with a guitar can be, and everyone else in the band (any lineup, and there are many) is pretty fantastic as well. Particuarly Adrian Belew, who joined the group in the 80's on lead vocals. He's more or less who Maynard James Keenan worships.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 As far as I know, the incomparable two_tuff_toddy did nothing to set off The Upright Man, he's just like that. We had a couple yuks reading this lacerating diatribe TUM wrote about him, though. Can't remember for the life of me where it's posted, though.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 There was never a post on why Upright stopped liking two tuff toddy.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 maybe it was a PM then. It was fuckin' funny, whatever it was.
Guest Shoes Head Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 If you like Ghostface, you'll love Royce da 5'9's latest album. It has that Wu Tang grittiness without all the bullshit commercialism. It should be pretty cheap and out of everyone who's reviewed on and offline, not one person disliked it. If you're uncertain about who he is, he was the only MC to ever outshine Eminem on a track "Bad Meets Evil" on the Slim Shady LP. Royce da 5'9" - Death Is Certain
razazteca Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Iced Earth album Tribute to the Gods is a better cover album than the recent RUSH.
Guest Fire and Knives Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Get some RUSH. Oh, I fucking hate you. K.
Angel_Grace_Blue Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Come on K, you know I'm just joking. Besides, better me saying it as a joke than Z saying it and actually meaning it. Go buy some Watson 310 Mafia, then. They rock.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Go buy some Watson 310 Mafia, then. They rock.
5_moves_of_doom Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Go buy some Watson 310 Mafia, then. They rock.
Nighthawk Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 find some Residents. Not on amazon or anything, Yeah huh. Whataya ignant?
5_moves_of_doom Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 find some Residents. Not on amazon or anything, Yeah huh. Whataya ignant? As far as I remember back when I was loading up on the Residents, pretty much everything of theirs being sold on amazon was completely out of stock.
Nighthawk Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Some are, but you can buy them used off amazon also. Do it anyway, as people often sell them brand new at severely reduced price.
PLAGIARISM! Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 I just get em off euroralph, but i guess shipping will be undesirable for yanks.
Hank Kingsley Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 Go buy some Watson 310 Mafia, then. They rock. One hit wonders!
Angel_Grace_Blue Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 One hit wonders with only one song at this moment, Supes. Keep that in mind.
