One song that really made me sad when I was a kid was Puff the Magic Dragon, so now I still get a little blue when I hear it.

You know what song makes me happy and sad at the same time? "Redemption Song" as performed by Joe Strummer and Johnny Cash. Two of my favourites, now dead. They sound both weary and hopeful at the same time. Great, great track.

I always wondered something about that track.

Strummers' vocals sound EXACTLY the same as the solo version on Streetcore. Not "Same guy singing " exactly the same, like "same track" the same. And the version of Redemption Song with both of them wasn't on any of Cash's regualr CD's, just Unearthed, which came out after Strummer died. So, did they just have Cash sing some/all of the song and just splice them together to make it seem like they sang it together?

'Dead Of Winter' by Eels is pretty bleak but the two songs that end the album after it offer a ray of light at the end of the tunnel.

Moonshiner. I like Uncle Tupelo's version the best.

"Angel's Song" by Sevendust (I think it's by them) is a really good "sad" song. Doesn't really make me sad, I think it's a good song to listen to...

This makes me sad. The video is about a million times worse, as many of the people from the "Strait Up" album are around a beach campfire and a visage of Lynn Strait walks through them and looks at them all. Holy shit, the first time I saw it I completely broke down. There are a few other songs on that album that are quite sad, though I can't remember titles off the top of my head.

I agree. As a matter of fact, I've never been able to watch this video again after the first time I saw it.

Saddest excuse for a song I've ever heard.
