Guest Vitamin X Posted October 8, 2004 Report Posted October 8, 2004 Umm.. Miami is the underdog, and NE is only favored by 18, not 35. Where did you get 35 from, or am I missing something here?

And he's picking Miami to at least cover the spread, meaning he expects the Dolphins to put up 35 points. Shhh.... I'd like to say I have some devious, well thought plan on why I chose that # as my tiebreaker. Something that will guarantee a win, knocking this 0-3 monkey off my back. But I don't. I asked this girl I work with to pick a number, and that's what she chose. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Spaceman Spiff Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 Umm.. Miami is the underdog, and NE is only favored by 18, not 35. Where did you get 35 from, or am I missing something here? The line here is 12.5, he picked Miami (presumably to cover, not win), and his tiebreaker (i.e. NE's score) was 47. Thus, he's picking NE to score 47 points with Miami covering the spread, meaning they have to lose by less than 12.5. 47 - 12 = 35.
Guest Vitamin X Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 Um, Miami doesn't have to cover the spread, all they have to do as the underdogs is just simply win. By the way, if that's hedonismbot in your avatar, major props to you. "I apologize for nothing!"
Spaceman Spiff Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 I know Miami doesn't need to cover. nl5 is NE, so by his using a tiebreaker of 47 and picking Miami, he's saying Miami will lose by 12 or less to NE (who will put up 47 points), thus saying he expects Miami to lose by a score of 47-35 (or Miami scoring anywhere from 35 to 46 points, or winning outright). Um, Miami doesn't have to cover the spread, all they have to do as the underdogs is just simply win. All they need to do is stay within 12 points of NE to "win". They don't even have to win the game outright.
