Guest momoracci Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 The last 5 minutes of the 8/21/93 Akira Hokuto vs. Manami Toyota match. The heat is so sick and the near-falls are so perfect, that I don't see how anyone couldn't completely mark out.

The one where he knocked Taker down with the chair and beat on him, and then took like 30 seconds to climb the ladder and the camera zoomed in TIGHT on him, his hand gets inches away...and then BOOM...there comes Taker to ruin it all. Shit, there were even a few smarks 'round here that were cheering for Jeff to win the big one, including myself. It would have been awesome (even if just for a week). As much as I'm not a Jeff Hardy fan, after all the shit he had to go through from Taker the past year, he really should have gone over for that one night. He could have gone into Smackdown and been ordered to defend vs. Kurt Angle. Angle would destroy him and beat him for the title. Then, at Vengeance 2002, Rock could win the title in a Fatal Fourway (ya gotta throw Hardy in for that one match instead of a Triple Threat) and everything would be back to how it was anyway but the casual fan would be under the illusion that indeed anything . . . ANYTHING could happen in WWE . . . of course HHH would have ruined that in time anyway but still.

Andre's near-fall on Hogan in like the first 30 seconds was weird cause it nearly killed everything (build and all) right off the bat.

Saturn had kicked out of everything Raven had thrown at him, Saturn had just given Lodi the DVD throught the table, but as he came back into the ring Raven caught him with the DDT, when Saturn barely kicked out the pop from the crowd was pretty loud. It's not really a classic, but it's a sequence I always like.

Just call me Dan Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 The Vengeance 2002 3 way w/ Rock/Taker/Angle has some incredible near falls at the end, and the Fatl 4 Way for the #1 Contendership to the WWE title before Armageddon 2002 had some of the best nearfalls ever (the Edge/Angle ending).

Goldberg spearing Lesnar and Eddy covering for....2 was just awesome It was awesome for more than just the reason I mentioned too... because it allowed Eddy to win the match "on his own", and some can even say that even without Goldberg around, Lesnar still could have and would have been beaten that day.

I dont remember that 'killing' anything...seemed like a good near-fall, that showed everybody just how kayfabe dangerous Andre was for Hogan... Plus, it was Heenans reasoning for Survivor Series 87 and the SNME rematch.

Not one of the best near falls ever, but it's the first time in a long while where I've seen the entire camera side of the crowd completely bite on a near fall.

Awesome match, and when Eric Bischoff runs in to count the pin, that was classic. You know, it was kinda like the Jeff Hardy vs. Undertaker match. No one really wanted HBK to win going in, but the match was so well done that you really were rooting for him.

My favorite is when Goldust cameback and was teaming with Booker T and Goldust was using the powerslam as a near fall and the fans were BUYING IT EVERYTIME. I mean when was the last time the fans thought a powerslam could end the match? From the early to mid 90s at best. And that just another reason why it was bullshit that WWE let Dustin go.

Punk has Homicide down, and the count was so close that a lot of fans were legit pissed that the match wasn't over and began chanting "That was three." Best near fall I ever saw live.

He slowly goes and covers Benoit 1...2...NO! The Garden was on the edge of its seat and was about to riot. I almost renounced my faith in God. What a moment...what a match.

Right near the end of the match, Haas is on top, Kidman alley-oops Rey into Haas and Rey does a rana for a CLOSE near fall. It was so close the live crowd even began to chant "bullshit" at the two count.

Its been a few years since I saw the match, but about 5 minutes in, Macho Man goes to suplex Flair, but crotches him on the top rope, and goes for the pin. The count was so close that they actually rang the bell to end the match and briefly played Macho Man's music. Then the Ref had to start yelling that it was a two count and it pissed off the crowd. I may be wrong on Machos music being played, but I definitely remember the bell ringing.

Goldust had been using the powerslam as a finisher prior to their teaming and had dispatched of several foes with that very maneuver. He also beat Christian later on with it after Christian beat Booker T for the Intercontinetal title in the Judgment Day battle royal.
Guest Loss Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho v Steve Austin & HHH - 05/21/01 All the nearfalls in this match were outstanding. HHH getting the chairshot on Benoit three or four minutes in, and the fans thinking it was over, because they had been conditioned to short main events for months. Jericho pulling the ref out of the ring after Austin's stunner on Benoit, while a logical faux pas, got tremendous heat. Jericho's Walls on Austin being broken up by HHH got some HUGE boos.

I thought Rock had a chance after all those chair shots, but he didn't kick out that time. Austin/Rock again at WM XIX. I recall Austin kicking out of several falls only to ultimately lose Hogan/Rock of course. Damn, Rock has done this quite a few times, and I'm not that big of a fan of him. Not a near fall, but HBK/Austin's WM XIV reversal sequence at the end was pretty awesome.

I think he kicked out of a guienteen (sp?) leg drop or 450 splash. I was for sure Juventud had won. Jericho fought bakc though and won when he putJuvi in the lion tamer and Juvi having hsi "never quit" attitude refused to tap so he got knocked out. And then Iakea came over for the save.

Angle follows up with the Angle Slam, but only gets a two count. The last few minutes of Ultimo Dragon vs. Shinjiro Ohtani (J-Crown tournament, 1996) had several great near-falls.

Word...Arn's run in was one of the best timed I've ever seen...a definate mark-the-F-out moment...but how about all the near falls in Bret/Davey Boy from SS 92 with Vince and the Brain on commentary...those two and the fans whole hearted reactions every time there was a pin attempt were fantastic...still the best WWF match I've ever seen....

I can't point to any specific momens, but I remember the Edge vs. Angle PPV matches from spring '02, and Edge vs. Orton at Vengeance having several good near-falls.
