Worst show you ever saw live?

Recommended Posts

A RAW last summer in Buffalo. It was the week after Kane had gotten demasked. The whole thing was just pretty bad. That's all I remember. Luckily Smackdown! in Rochester made up for it the next night with Gurrero/Tajiri V. WGTT.

WCW, July 1991. ME was El Gigante v One Man Gang in a cage match. Horrifying show.

I went to a WCW house show in 97 that just sucked. I can't even point to anything specific, honestly. They started off with sound problems, you had wrestlers showing up late not really prepared to wrestle, aside from maybe a DDP/Savage match on that show, I can't remember anything being remotely good...just a bad, boring show. Plus, I bought an nWo shirt while I was their and the damn thing ripped like as soon as I left the building.

I went to a Thunder a year later which also sucked...although I'm not sure which was worse. It had its moments, but for the most part, it was a boring, forgettable show, and it was made worse by the fact that they kept hyping an exclusive Giant/Luger match that would take place when the show went off the air. And after all the hype, the match ended up being like 2 minutes long with Luger squashing Giant. That was enough to turn me off to WCW for good.

It's a tie for me:

Thunder sometime in May of 1998 --- Awful show w/ no dark matches and a Luger/Giant ME. Benoit/Booker had a promo segment so neither one had a match but guys like Jim Neidhart, Hacksaw Duggan, and Brian Adams did. The only saving grace was an appearance from former CW Champion Chris Jericho.

And the other would be the Raw before SummerSlam 2004 --- Not one, not two, but three Diva segments. The 4 matches included 2 good bouts in Edge/Jericho and Benoit vs. HHH/Orton. But the other matches were Rhyno/Tajiri against 2 jobbers and a Diva 6-Woman Tag. Yech. I honestly had more fun watching the Heat/dark matches than the live Raw itself. Just bleh!

Raw in Dayton. It was in May or June, the one where Kane attacked HBK. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't anything special. I've seen indy shows in backwoods Tennessee that were more entertaining.

A WCW houseshow in Augusta, GA in October, 1997. Payed $35 for tickets. DDP no showed this, and the following 3 WCW events at the same place (before finally showing up for Nitro in November 2000). Anyways, what made this so bad was there were 6 matches on the show. It was headlined by Lex Luger vs Scott Hall. The match was a disaster, only to be saved by Hall's facial expressions after getting about 10 inverted atomic drops in a row.

The only high-point of the show was Ric Flair vs Curt Hennig for the WCW US Title. Flair was "injured" but told Hennig he would let Benoit take his place. Benoit beat Hennig for the title, thus blowing the roof off the Civic Center, however evil nWo referee Nick Patrick decided after the fact that it was a non-title match, and Hennig retained.

The Benoit/Hennig match was great, but with there only being 6 matches on the card, it became the worst overall show I've been to.

I've been to more shitty indy shows that I can count.

Despite having gone to at least 60 indy shows in my time, I've only actually been to three big promotion events, all of them being WWE. There was a WWF House Show in 1995/6 headlined by Diesel/Bret Hart in a Cage Match. I was too big of a mark back then to really give an opinion on it, but I remember Phineas Godwinn and I yelling at each other, with me actually thinking I had pissed him off.

The second was a Smackdown taping where Billy and Chuck unsuccesfully tried to regain the Tag Titles from Hogan and Edge. It was also the first WWE appearance by Shannon Moore, and one of the first (dark match) by Mysterio.

Lastly, a pretty run of the mill house show just before the 2003 Royal Rumble. It was headlined by the wonderful Scott Steiner vs. Triple H. The only good thing about the night was getting to talk to Scott Steiner and Jerry Tuite (The Wall, Malice) prior to the show. Steiner was kind of angry, as he is always is, but Jerry was very cool.

The two WWF shows I've been to have been terrible for the most part. WCW always got saved by good cruiserweight matches.

You'd THINK they wouldn't put such a shitty show for a homebase city like Augusta . . . but no one ever accused WCW of thinking, so there ya go.

It was a Smackdown house show last October, in Trenton. I actually remember it being on the same night as the Raw where Shane McMahon "killed" Kane by sending his limo into the truck.

The big main event was Brock defending the title against Angle and Cena in a Triple Threat match. It lasted all of 2-3 minutes and was just each guy hitting their finishers. Everything else was pretty lackluster outside of a Mysterio-Tajiri match.

Also, a WCW Thunder that was headline by Goldberg vs. Reese. Ugh.

The NWA 50th Anniversary was nothing to scream about either, with a long ass borefest match between Dan Severn and "Steven" Regal, in which Regal had his boots on the wrong feet.

IPW out of Delta, Iowa. With guys like Mr. Destiny and Juice (who looked like he was on his namesake), the wrestling was just intensely boring. The depressing thing about it is that the fans ate it all up, despite it being the shittiest wrestling show I've ever seen. Stale gimmicks, dumb gimmicks, this fed had it all, and it all sucked very bad.

Hey now! We got to see Chavo Guerrero Jr. finally get a shot in on Eddy Guerrero to start their feud, as well as the brilliant commercial break mic work of Billy Kidman!

That show's my pick too, actually. I never went to another WCW show after that.

To be totally honest w/ you, I don't even remember those 2 bits. All I remember is a Benoit/Booker interview segment (It was Benoit's B-day as I brought a sign to commemorate it), Jericho/Calo, Duggan/Adams, Neidhart/Finley, an in ring interview w/ either Giant or Luger, and the ME involving those 2. The rest is a blur although I did pick up a Raven t-shirt but still am ashamed I never mail ordered for a WCW Monday Night Jericho shirt.

I did end up going to an August 2000 Nitro. It was the infamous fans vote on who faces Booker T . . . but it'll be Goldberg anyway episode. While the wrestling wasn't top notch, the segments were entertaining enough to not make me feel like I gave my money away. Plus, we got to see Goldberg's only clean loss (?) in WCW to Booker T.

It was the second show I ever attended back in 1989 (the first show had a great 20 minute match between Bret Hart & Curt Hennig). As a kid I enjoyed it, but I would despise this card today.

Some No-Name Jobber beat Paul Roma clean. Honestly, this was pretty funny since Roma sucks.

Bret Hart d. Bad News Brown in the best match on the card.

The Bushwhackers d. The Bolsheviks

Akeem The African Dream beat Hercules

Jimmy Snuka beat Honky Tonk Man

Rick Martel d. Brutus Beefcake via holding the ropes on an attempted Sunset Flip by Beefcake.

MAIN EVENT STEEL CAGE MATCH: Dusty Rhodes beat Big Bossman

That was in Philly, right? I was there for that, and didn't think it was bad at all. Matches weren't anything special, but I remember liking the post-taping ME (Austin vs Rock vs Mankind vs Taker, I believe) a lot...and the post match bit with Austin giving Rock the Stunner over and over was funny as hell. Not a bad show at all...but then again, I liked KOTR 95 (which I also attended), so what do I know.

USWA at my high school gym around 1993-1994. It was around the time Crush turned on Randy Savage. The main event was The Undertaker vs. Crush, which considering I was 12 or 13, was awesome. I was excited to see two big WWF superstars at my high school.

The rest of the show was pretty shitty. Nothing on the undercard was terribly memorable. There was no Jeff Jarrett, Jerry Lawler or Bill Dundee. However, I did get to see an epic war between PG-13 and the American Eagles. It started with a Midget Crybaby Match between each team's respective midgets, Midget D and Little Eagle. Let's say it sucked and leave it at that. Then PG-13 and the Eagles had their tag match. It sucked, too. Even being a 12-year-old who had only been a fan for a couple of years, I knew that this was shit.

It was a wcw house show just before soulded out 2000 it was a mess. Here's the results from dttdigest:

Evan Karagias d. Villano IV with a twisting splash from the top rope

Maestro d. Villano V with an STF

Jerry Flynn d. Bam Bam Bigelow via count-out in a "No Holds Barred Last Man Standing Match"

David Flair and Crowbar defeat The Harris Boys via Dusty Finish to retain the Tag Team Titles

Intermission

Musical Interlude - Three Count comes out and the crowd reaffirms their love by giving the boys all of their popcorn and soda.

They sing and dance through it all, using their green dots as shields

Sid sneaks in behind them and, I'll tell ya', the pop is phenomenal. From my seats in the back, the crowd really looked like a crowd at a boy band concert and Three Count played it up beautifully.

Sid taps Evan, Shane and Shannon bail, and Evan takes the powerbomb.

Dustin Rhodes d. Jeff Jarrett by removing a guitar from a pole in a non-title Guitar on a Pole match

Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Asya d. Perry Saturn and Dean Malenko with Chavito's Tornado DDT

Meng d. Total Package with the Tongan Death Grip

Sid Vicious d. Bret Hart by disqualification in a World Heavyweight Title Match.

Yeah to be honest I don't remember much of it, I just remember it being sorta disappointing. Probably cause I had started going to see ECW live around that time, and a Heat taping just wasn't going to measure up.
