Myxamatosis 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2006 Belle and Sebastian's "If You're Feeling Sinister" is the perfect album to fall asleep to after drunkenly coming home from the bar, fresh from being turned down by a less than stellar chick.....
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2006 i could be completely off, but i think justice is a fairly big deal in europe. kanye shouldn't be surprised that he was passed up by some homegrown talent. kanye needs to get it together.
cd213 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2006 Kanye West at the MTV European VMAs I saw this during the replay on Sunday morning. I couldn't belive what he did. He must have been drunk or on drugs to do something that stupid...fucking idiot. I hope his career goes down hill from here. Also, I LOVED that Lordi closed the show. Fuck MTV, I'm sure they didn't know what they were going to show when these guys came on. They fucking rock and I'm glad I saw them on the show!!! Forget that shite called Slipknot and throw on some Lordi!!!

Guest Felonies! Report post Posted November 6, 2006 Okay, I know you were being sarcastic, but since the 6/8 feel is kind of distinctive in rock, you notice it, where as you don't give 4/4 a second thought.
Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2006 6/8 is rarely interesting in rock though. I don't hand out points for time signatures. Diminished chords are always impressive.

Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2006 Duran Duran was fucking awesome live. Near 2 hour set, and they played everything with only two notable (yet minor) omissions from the set list.
C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2006 Phrygian is my favorite. I like Mixolydian, but find it to be a tad bit overused. I'll give you Phrygian is good stuff though.

Guest Felonies! Report post Posted November 7, 2006 i may sound like a moron, but i have no idea what czech & co. is talking about. i listen to music with my balls not my education. I don't believe I consciously think about modes when I'm listening to stuff, I just know I like that Moorish/Andalusian sound that you get from Phrygian. Evidently the Godfather music is in Phrygian. I did not know this before, but now that I think about it, I suppose that makes sense. And to tie this all together, "One More Cup of Coffee" is apparently in Phrygian-dominant, which explains why I was so positively giddy when I first heard it. Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2006 Can somebody tell me who did the original version of "Last Kiss"? I love Pearl Jam's version but can never seem to find who originally sang it (like how it's hard to find the band that originally did "Whiskey In The Jar"). Guest Felonies! Report post Posted November 7, 2006 I think they were called The Cavaliers. So and so and the Cavaliers. I know this because every time I tried to download stuff by the drum corps of that name, I'd get "Last Kiss." EDIT: J. Frank Wilson was the guy. Man, get the Wikipedia toolbar. You can find the answer to anything in seconds. Just fits right up there.
C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2006 I thought that Whiskey in the Jar was a traditional Irish song? I don't think there was an original band that did it. The original "Last Kiss" is interesting IIRC. It's a lot more upbeat sounding, which adds a little twist to the lyrics.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2006 I'm glad the discussion about favourite modes and time signatures was interspersed with 'Duran Duran was fucking awesome live'. It kept us on track.

The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2006 The "original" version of "Whiskey in the Jar" that you're probably thinking of was recorded by Thin Lizzy back in the 70's. (It is an old Irish song, though.)
