The Mandarin Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Who among you watches it routinely every Christmas season? CityTV has this on at least twice a year here, so it's can't miss. I honestly think it's in my top five comedies of all time, and contains the best humour/slapstick combination of any movie in the past twenty years. The overly rediculous face Clark's father makes on sight of the squirrel has been etched in my mind for years. Discuss. "THEY WANT YOU.. to say GRACE. ..THE BLESSING!"
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Of course. Jeez. Was there ever any doubt? This vs. The Muppets Family Christmas Special, now THAT'S a discussion.
Downhome Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 I watch this film many times every year, all throughout the year. The same can be said for all of the Vacation flicks. They are so rewatchable for me and my family, oh yeah.
razazteca Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 A Christmas Story is a superior holiday movie that must be watched nonstop in December when the Ted Turner networks plays it 39480 times a day on 4 channels. Of course. Jeez. Was there ever any doubt? This vs. The Muppets Family Christmas Special, now THAT'S a discussion. Ralphie wants the gun damn it!
The Metal Maniac Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Fuck the Christmas Story. If I knew the address for the head-exploding gif, it'd go right here. A Christmas Story > Everything else.
Guest Cerebus Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Christmas Story is beyond Christmas Vacation in every respect.
The Czech Republic Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Don't be retarded. Christmas Vacation > Christmas Story, no question
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 If you pretend Ralphy grows up to be Clark then both parties win.
GreatWhiteNope Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Fuck the Christmas Story. Indeed.
The Metal Maniac Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 I've actually never watched Christmas Vacation, so I guess I really can't compare the two films. But seriously. Fuck Christmas Story? That's insane.
razazteca Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Fuck the Christmas Story. You're going to have to eat a bar of soap for that comment.
Guest El Satanico Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 A Christmas Story and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation are equally great, so enough children. However, ACS is more of a holiday tradition for me. I will usually watch CV, but there's no "I must watch it" tradition for it. Bad Santa may become a holiday tradition for me, as I did watch it in theaters on Xmas Eve. Now what about an underrated holiday film...Gremlins. By that I mean it's underrated as a holiday film.
MrRant Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Gremlins has always been considered a good holiday film from everyone I've talked to.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Now what about an underrated holiday film...Gremlins. By that I mean it's underrated as a holiday film. If Gremlins is going to be counted in this then I nominate the first two Die Hard films.
GreatWhiteNope Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Ernest Saves Christmas gets no love.
Youth N Asia Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 "Hey Griswald, where are you gonna put a tree that big?" "Bend over and I'll show ya." And the classic... "SHITTER'S FULL!" Best Christmas movie ever
cbacon Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Home Alone has the more sentimental value for me. Which reminds me, I have to check when it's on this year. I have the DVD, but for some reason I get a nostalgia kick watching it on NBC with commercials and all. Although my favorite holiday movie would have to be It's A Wonderful Life which I traditionally watch with the family on Christmas eve. The last scene always gets to me *sniff*
nogoodnick Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Christmas Vacation is one of those movies you can just pop in and watch anytime.
Si82 Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 I love watching "Christmas Vacation" at this time of year. It's always shown by one channel. Mind you, I like films that don't have anything to do with Christmas at Christmas time just becuase they tend to be shown on TV to fill up the schedules. Stuff like "Star Trek" films and "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" that are shown every year.
Black Lushus Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 "Merry Christmas...Merry Christmas...Merry Christmas...Kiss My Ass...Kiss His Ass...Kiss Your Ass...Happy Hannakuh"
ArkhamGlobe Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Christmas Vacation always gets shown on Christmas Eve here in Sweden and I always end up watching it, I think I've done so for like 9 or 10 straight years.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Die Hard 2 is definitely my favorite christmas movie not named Die Hard.
Guest hhheld_down Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 its been a tradition for me to watch it at least once during the holidays, christmas vacation will always have a special place in my heart.
nl5xsk1 Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 I'd rather watch Tranny porn than Christmas Vacation OR Christmas Story. /not an exaggeration //not a fan of tranny porn /// seriously
CBright7831 Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 I usually tend to watch this and It's A Wonderful Life every Christmas.
2GOLD Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Give me "A Christmas Story", "Christmas Vacation", "How the Grinch stole Christmas" and "Die Hard 2" on a loop and I'm fine. Really pissed they don't show "Ernest saves Christmas" and "Gremlins" enough during Christmas. I might just have to find them for 5 bucks and buy them for Christmas.
Crimson Platypus Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Add another voice to the A Christmas Story love. There is no better Christmas movie imo.
Nevermortal Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 The best part about Christmas Vacation is the turkey that wasn't. When he cuts into it, it's one of the grossest things ever, and I love it so.
Guest M. Harry Smilac Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 A Christmas Story is good for nostalgia but I have reached my limit on watching it. Now Christmas Vacation has some of thee greatest quotes ever. Hey. If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is. Hallelujah. Holy shit. Where's the Tylenol? Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse.
