OK, I was getting to thinking...what video games would make good movies if handled by the right persons?

Here's a few off the top of my head.

-The Legend of Zelda (Imagine if the Lord of the Rings guys got a hold of this)

-The Secret Of Monkey Island (A live action version of the insult swordfighting...>=D)

-Metroid (Samus WITH CHARACTER!)

-(though I've never played it) Halo, I guess.

-Soul Calibur (take more of what made Mortal Kombat one good insted of what made Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and Street Fighter bad)

-Mega Man (could make a good kids action movie.)

What else?

It's too cutesy. Make it anime or computer animated and maybe we'll talk.

I think Metroid has the potential to be huge (it could birth a franchise), but I lack any faith that Hollywood would do it right. Knowing Hollywood, whatever studio that'd wind up making the film would hire Uwe Boll to direct and they'd cast some famous actress who'd be totally awful for the role but had name value.

Twisted Metal

A multi-faceted story using some of the characters from the first/second games would be amazing. Maybe change it a little so that once a character is dead that's it, and maybe have Calypso randomly dropping them into places after every death, that way they can have many different scenes in different areas of the world and also add to the drama of who bought it each time. So, one moment you could be watching two guys fighting through the streets of New York, only to suddenly drop into Chicago, unaware of who died. Then the movie could "flashback" to whomever's death it was when the time came to reveal it.

The only question I would have, as with all multiple character fighting games, is which characters get which level of importance. Beyond Mitsurugi and Taki as the mains (as far as I can tell) I have little idea where the others would fit.

Metal Gear Solid? Shoot they're practically movies now anyways.

Halo would be sweet if done on an epic scale. The creators at Bungie say they've created this huge 500 year timeline for Halo to develop games, books, and movies so we'll see. Seeing how they created the Spartans (think Kurt Russell in Soldier X10) a la the book The Fall of Reach (I think) would be a blast.

I also agree with Max Payne. I think Sin City would be a good indicator of how a Max Payne movie would go over with audiences. Different plots and different built-in crowd, but they'd be the same style.

Funny, I always thought Xianghua, Kilik, and Maxi were the main trio.

Xianghua because she gets Soul Calibur, and the other two by association.

Nightmare Nightmare Nightmare!

Sorry, I just like using him in the game. Grabbing your opponent and pounding his face in with the hilt of your sword never gets old for me.

Having never played SC1 and only playing SC2 on a cursory level, I said those two just because they always seemed to be the popular choices when I watched people play at the arcade (going back to Soul Blade even), storyline be damned

Fuck that. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic would have been great, if it wasn't practically a movie in its own right as it is.

i've always wanted a Monkey Island movie, POTC just made me want it more.

and i've wanted a LOZ: Ocarina of Time movie since i finished the game a few years back, i think it would work pretty good.

Angelina Jolie?

...that'd be scary...her being both Croft AND Samus...

She was one of the ones to come to mind, actually.

Not that I even dislike her as an actress, but someone like her would just be all wrong. The problem is that I don't even know who'd be right.

XIII

I've been playing through that game recently, and you're right. It'd probably go over well too. Since 24 is such a successful show, I'm surprised that more studios / production companies aren't trying to greenlight more espionage themed properties.

In the same vein, I also agree that Splinter Cell would probably do well.

What about Mech Warrior? I think Battletech has a rich history, but it might be hard to explain it all on film.

I think Star Wars: Knight's of the Old Republic would make a good movie, but I think they'd be better with a TV series based in that Star Wars timeline.

Half-Life could be decent as well.

I'd say Counter Strike but they already made that movie; they called it Delta Force.

GTA, yes, would be an awesome movie, but only with an original story.

There's been rumours of a potential Halo movie directed by Ridley Scott. Which means it will involve 100000 explosions, and be the loudest movie ever. All they would need is Jerry Bruckheimer to produce it.
