Vic (and glenn close i guess) wanna take down that Antwaun guy.

but Shane is doing dirty back-door business with the guy, in exchange for his cut. so they're on opposite sides here.

I believe the following will happen.

Vic will clean his act up and play it straight. At some point he will be forced into action on the Shane situation and he will have to decide between turning the other cheek, helping Shane or turning Shane in. Shane knowing enough to take down Vic for good will force Vic back into business as usual.

Kinda like Michael Corleone "I try to get out! but they PULLLL ME BACK IIIN"

Yeah, I think Acevada getting off to a rape tape seems worse then Dutch "kitten killer" Wagenbach

Acevada is all kinds of fucked in the head.

It's a great callback to previous seasons, though, because didn't it come up (back when he was running in the primaries) that he had previously been accused of sexually assaulting some woman?

Yes he was accused of rape, but it was ultimately revealed that she was lying about Acaveda being the one who raped her so as to get revenge against him for revealing to everyone while they were dating that she was into rough sex.

Im alittle confused on this Shane and Vic storyline

Can anyone help me out?

It's an extremely convoluted storyline but basically Shane is Vic's former partner/protege. They did everything together, including killing a fellow cop who was going to narc on them for their evil deeds. This freaked Shane out and when Vic refused talk to Shane about the murder and ordered Shane to repress all feelings of guilt over the crime, Shane started having a slow but steady nervous breakdown that involved him pretty much turning into a complete and total asshole. Things got worse when Shane hooked up with a woman who Vic didn't approve of and who stole stolen money from Vic and Shane. In the end, it all went into the toilet when Shane refused to forgive Lem for burning their stolen money, which basically drove Lem away from the Strike Team.

The current status has Vic starting to realize how he's turned Shane into a monster as Vic has found himself having to move himself back to the straight and narrow. The fact that Shane can not only bring the shithammer of justice down onto the members of the Strike Team and Vic for murdering a fellow cop.

Great episode! It's been so long, I've forgotten how fucked up the people on this show can be (Acevada, the restaurant owner). I'm predicting that Acevada will go off the deep end before the season is out, the guy is becoming unstable. I have a suspicion that Rawlings is up to something, her actions just seem like a cover for something. I can't put my finger on it, but something isn't adding up with her.

I like the Dutch/Army team, similar to what Vic started with the Strike Team. Hope we see more of these two together. And the ending was awesome! Vic seeing his own future at Gilroy's funeral? Good stuff. Really set the tone for the next phase of the show.

BTW, who played the "rock" version of Amazing Grace at the end?

I thought it was Dropkick Murphys doing "Amazing Grace" at the end, but I can't say for sure.

And they can't break up Dutch and Claudette, they're great together.

And they can't break up Dutch and Claudette, they're great together.

Given that they all but stated that Vic isn't inviting Ronnie back to join the Strike Team V2.0, they might have a good storyline to play out of this where Dutch and Ronnie end up partnered together on the hidden camera operation and the two basically bonding over how they've gotten screwed over by people they considered their friends and are generally considered to be the precinct's top geeks. Which could lead to an episode where the show's two resident geeks save the day/arrest the big time criminal and prove their worth to the rest of the Barn.

As for Claudette, they should put her and Shane together if only to further the Shane/Vic plot by having Claudette try to save Shane from self-destructing/serving as the fan voice towards stating how Vic is to blame for Shane's descent into assholery, and generally make Vic ultra-nervous that Shane might rat Vic out for Terry's murder to Claudette if she succeeds in getting Shane to drop his guard down and confide to Claudette the reason behind his madness.

Great description of the Shane/Vic story JasonX, a couple things to add:

Obviously Shane is now in business for himself, as well as corrupting other cops. When Vic ran the Strike Team, it got dirty slowly, and he was very careful with rookies. Shane has none of the intelligence/restraint to operate as subtly as Vic in some ways did.

Shane absolutely hero-worshipped Vic, and this is his way of emulating what he thinks Vic is. Vic never gave him quite the respect Shane thinks he deserved, so he's pretty much being Uber-Vic. All of the crazy, none of the sense of responsibility or just plain sneakiness.

I actually had Dutch and Ronnie paried together when I was working things through. As season 3 was winding down I though the Strike Team would be done with. Vic and Shane would patch up (they always do) and team together. Lem and Tavon would be partners, and with Claudette in charge Dutch would have to team up with Ronnie...which would lead to Ronnie standing up for Dutch against Vic and Shane.

David Snell STILL can't get his name in the opening credits though, the first batch. It's about time

Anyone think that Shane won't still be breathing by the time the season comes to a close?

I was actually just thinking that. Vic could take him out if Shane were to continually try to use Terry's death to exploit Vic and get away with his increasingly corrupt behaviour. Anyway, good episode this week and this season is already shaping up to be another barn burner.

The issue of Terry's death and Shane is a tricky thing: It's all but been outright stated that all of Shane's assholery comes from his guilt from killing Terry and him unconsciously wanting to be punished for it (hence the assholery and self-destructive behavior).

So I doubt it would be something Shane would use in the form of an idle threat towards Vic. It will probably only be evoked by Shane when they finally have Vic and Shane confront each other over Shane's current actions with Shane throwing Terry's murder in Vic's face as to the exact moment Vic turned Shane into the monster he currently is.

Quick question: I don't remember the 'prequel' episode that well, are there any telling characteristics in Shane's behaviour, or is he basically a straight cop?

I hope we see more of Tevon. He's infinitely more interesting than Dannie or Julian now. (those two are near worthless characters at this point, though it's not the actors' fault). Honestly, I can't even remember if Julian's married or not.

One thing that's nice, Ronnie looks to be getting some more action this season. The guy's always been sort of a noneventful character, but he somehow radiates likeability.

I missed out on what exactly Lem's doing now. Help?

Lem's working with troubled kids somehow now.

And Shane was straight and narrow just like Vic in the Day One episode. I think he commented at the end of the ep that getting away with the stuff they did was too easy

He was pretty much the same person except his assholeness was toned down considerably.

Julian is still married. As for Tavon vs Dani/Julian, I still think Dani/Julian are the more interesting characters. They've just been stuck in bad storylines that force them to have the same conversation over and over again ad nausea.

I think the reason for his likability has to be from the fact that from the few times they've had Ronnie speak, they've made a point to make him be the resident geek of the Strike Team, which sets him apart from the rest of the team in terms of personality.

I totally agree with you on Tavon.

One of my favorite scenes of last year was Lem begrudgingly lying and telling him that he hit Mara, and then Vic making him feel even worse.

Julien was still married at the end of last year (and there was that weird scene with him pounding his wife near the end of the season).

Maybe this'll be the year they pull the trigger on Danny making Detective.

ya dannie and julian have really gotten the shaft in season 3 and so far in season 4. they had bigger stories in season 1 & 2.

and I really want Lem to join Vic again!

and do you think eventually Vic and his wife will get back together?

or even maybe, Shane goes nuts and tries to threaten her (i forget names!)

Yeah, he definitely did. Dun dun dun!

The notion of the writers doing a Vic/Corrine/Dutch love triangle this season has potential. They can have Corrine, citing that she's still legally seperate from Vic, go out on a date with Dutch only to have Vic find out about it after the fact; Vic confronts Dutch and attacks him, only to cause Dutch to finally snap and basically beat Vic to a bloody, unrecognizable pulp. Vic swears revenge on Dutch, but declares to himself that he'll do so when Dutch least expects it. Meanwhile Corrine rejects Dutch when she finds out about the fight only for Vic to reject Corrine once and for all when she comes crawling back to Vic.

As much as I love Vic, it would be awesome if this actually happened. It would give Dutch a whole new level of credibility and it would make Vic seem more vulnerable. This could lead to a storyline where Vic starts to doubt himself on the streets and that forces him to resort back to his old ways to regain his respect and cred with Antwon and the other bangers.
