On the way home from work Fri night I stopped for a few beers at a local pub. I sat next to a guy that I have known since I was a kid, he is a bit older than I am and his kids are pretty much adults. His daughter plans to be a career military woman, as does her future husband, the two met while serving in Afghanistan. The young couple were in the Washington D.C. area about 3 weeks ago, they wanted to do something special before returning to active duty, they decided on a great meal at a restaurant they truly could not afford, and would just load it up on the ole plastic magic. The couple walked into the establishment wearing their most formal military attire, a few moments after being seated, they noticed a HUGE, very well dressed man approaching their table, the young lady later told her Dad the HUGE man was smiling, he said hello and thanked them for serving, and protecting the country. The young ladies fiancee thought he recognized the man and asked if he was a pro wrestler, he nodded, smiled and said yes, as a waiter came by the wrestler asked him to bring the young couple a fine bottle of wine, anything they want, were his words. Then the huge man told them to enjoy their dinner and stay safe, well, when dinner was complete the bill for the food never came, the waiter came by and told them Mr Dave Batista had paid for everything including the tip.

Didn't even introduce himself and no bragging... now THAT's a good wrestler outside the ring.

It would have been better if he would have left without paying, gave the thumb's up, and then the thumb's down.

The lesson? Get some formal military attire and wear it to fancy restaurants...

In all seriousness, it's a very nice gesture by Dave Batista.

That's a great story if it's true. HHH would have asked the waiter to quiz them on who their favorite wrestler is and who the greatest of all time is before he paid the bill...

I remember a story during Zach Gowen's first few weeks in WWE, Meltzer said Gowen and a bunch of the other wrestlers went out to eat after SmackDown! Apparently, Gowen was acting like a supreme, stuck-up asshole to everyone in the restaurant and when he didn't get his food on time, he screamed at the waiter, "Do you know who I am? I'm a WWE superstar!"

Glad to see David Bautista doesn't feel the need to remind people who he is like that idiot Gowen.

Some people usually have a hard time coping with success, especially considering who it was.

That's because Dave's a mature adult.

^---exactly. How old was Gowen? 19? 20? He hardly had any experience out in the adult world. He's like Rene Dupree... except probably more talented.

Considering how much JR pounds into people's heads that the latest hoss brought up on the roster is 20-something, it's easy to forget Dave's in his 30's.

This brings to mind Cena buying one of those expensive throwbacks for a kid a while back. That was class, and I don't even like to watch his matches.

Wasn't there a story about Brock getting into a fender-bender with somebody a while back, paying all the damages plus extra?

I think Brock got pissed and scared the guys kids big time and felt bad.

Also for Gowen flipping out, dude's got one leg and isn't intimidating at all. He probably felt he had to act the superstar role. But Batista? When your that huge and pimped out, you don't need to brag, people will look at him and think, "WOW THAT GUY IS JACKED!" He doesn't need to jump around yelling he's on tv to get a reaction. Although for Gowen maybe jump isn't the right word...

The Brock incident I don't remember hearing, but I do remember the Cena one where he gave the kid (possibly handicapped?) $300 for a jersey.

I remember an interview he had, where he said he had to be "toughened up" a bit by the veterans so he didn't get walked over. So I'm not surprised by this at all. It's a really nice story, though. And whoever said that this is how a champion should act outside the ring hit it on the head. This is the kind of guy you want as your standard bearer.

I was at an IWA show last June hanging out afterwords. And Gowen was hanging around acting like such a prick. He was a heel that night...but the show was long over and most of the fans were long gone. I think the guy just is a legit dickhead.

That's a great story to hear about.

Soon to be champion in the ring, and no doubt one out of the ring.

This is the type of stuff the media needs to cover...someone should send this into Metzler. Not everything about pro wrestling should be percieved negative when there's a lot of positives.

the "mainstream" would just shrug it off as a fake story anyways.

LOL

Oh yeah, and this story rocked it. Batista is just the man with a side of manly man chips and a big goblet of tesosterone.
