My point is, he starts games poorly, and if you bring him into the game in a save situation, he'll promptly blow it by giving up four runs.

That's partly because he doesn't know how to pace himself. If he knew, it was just one inning he had to pitch. I think, he might really benefit from it.

He's probably just trying to get his scrubs in. At least Hairston's at second.

And man, what a finish for the Reds/Cards game. Graves gave up a run to make it 6-5; had runners at second and third with only one out. They walk Walker intentionally to get to Pujols. And he grounded into the game-ending doubleplay. Incredible.

:( That sucked.

Bruiser, Beckett was just average to start last year, but Willis started out with a 0.00 ERA after 3 games, as well as a 1.000 batting average, but then quickly became streaky.

The one reason I don't think it will happen this year is the mechanics change. He got wild when he changed his release point all the time, and now they have worked him out of that and he has one consistent delivery. I'm not saying he won't go crazy again, but that is just one reason why he may not.

Either way, this is the hottest start for any Marlins pitcher I can remember. Two consecutive CG shutouts to start the season? I'm very impressed.

Apparently Im not the only one that wishes Steve Kline was back in St. Louis:

----

"Miserable" Kline wishes he'd stayed here

By Rick Hummel

Of the Post-Dispatch

04/13/2005

"I'm miserable," Steve Kline said.

....

Kline said he would undo his free-agent departure if he could. "I'd like to rub that bottle and have that genie come out," he said, "and grant me a wish that I could go back."

"I'm so used to (Edgar) Renteria and Jimmy (Edmonds) running down my mistakes and picking me up," he said, recalling his Gold Glove teammates with the Cardinals.

Even though one of the home runs was on the road, Kline said he already had begun to hear it from the Baltimore fans. "There's nothing worse than getting booed at home," Kline said. "St. Louis fans are too good for that. They understand the game more than most people."

----

The Os defense cant save you if your mistakes keep going over the fence..

Till Aramis leans to stop flinging himself wildly at that outside pitch, I'd keep him sitting. He's blown his fair share of run scoring chances this year with his Pirates swinging.

God damn, he gets the pressure spot and he returns to his late Pittsburgh form of swinging at anything. Maybe he just really isn't a pressure hitter. Love him but what he has done this season is pissing me off.

Hey just for shits, here are Earl Weaver's ten laws. This has no real purpose, I just thought I'd transcribe them for those who haven't read Weaver On Strategy yet.

1. Nobody's going to give a damn in July if you lost a game in March.

2. If you don't make any promises to your players, you won't have to break them.

3. The easiest way around the bases is with one swing of the bat.

4. Your most precious possessions on offense are your 27 outs.

5. If you only play for one run, that's all you'll get.

6. Don't play for one run unless you know that run will win the game.

7. It's easier to find four good starters than five.

8. The best place for a rookie pitcher is long relief.

9. The key step for an infielder is the first one, before the ball is hit.

10. Arguing with the umpire is the job of the manager, because it won 't hurt the team if he is ejected.

Anyone else getting a widescreen effect on NESN right now? I'm guessing I got the HD feed by mistake, but it's actually a pretty cool look.

I wish Giambi could listen to the YES announcers. Even though he just went deep, they are basically BEGGING him to just tap it the opposite way.

And who knew Jarret Wright would be the new Kaz Ishii, if not for only one inning.

Even Kaz Ishii wasn't Kaz Ishii today. What the fuck?

The O's pitching has shown some promise and the hitting is actually coming around. Even Sammy moved closer to the plate and is back to hitting the ball. Rodrigo looked outstanding again, Bedard looked strong again, Cabrera is still well off but he's showing signs he might be pulling his head out of his backside and Chen looked very good against the Yankees.

Bullpen needs to sure up but it should be good.

Who knows, they might actually have a shot at above .500.

What are the odds Rivera blows another save against Boston? 2:1?

Just put Quantrill or Rodriguez in!

I cant believe ESPN is doing a D-Rays/Os game.

Shit, why couldn't I have read that post earlier? I checked the score on the internet a couple times, but I didn't even bother to check for it on TV, because I just assumed they wouldn't show it.

Orioles have Sosa now. They are apparently now worth the time of day with him.

Orioles have a pretty decent team this year.

I'm a bit surprised ESPN is doing a D-Rays / Os game, because that network is so about the Boston love it's sickening.

If the Orioles did not have Sosa, you would not see O's/D-Rays on ESPN2. It just wouldn't happen. And I'm an Orioles fan. The team is good, but they aren't good enough for ESPN to consider airing a game against Tampa Bay in that ugly ballpark.

ESPN has their favorites. Sammy is an ESPN fav.

Hell, we used to not even get the alternate games. The O's used to be non-existant on ESPN.

Even ESPN2.

The way things are going, I might get to watch the entire season of Orioles baseball. And thanks to that MLB rules bs, I'll only get to see a few Cubs games on WGN.
