BorneAgain 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Funny how they've done so much to push Edge as this big star while with Christian it comes across as so natural. Also I remember in an older thread someone had a great idea regarding his motivation for the title, basically stating that he wants it just so he can become a big star and go to Hollywood. Forget passion, forget desire, he just wants to be this charismatic celebrity who everyone worships. Its a great contrast to people like HHH, Batista, or Edge who all have more tradtional reasons for wanting it. Its a fresh perspective and they want to keep him as a heel, that would be a great way to do it.

RedJed 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Wow - I was never really into Christian too much before he did a great job tonight. Been a solid midcarder but tonight that promo put him on a different level. This guy might be going somewhere in 3-4 months! He made me interested in him against Cena which I didnt think was possible.

Forget passion, forget desire, he just wants to be this charismatic celebrity who everyone worships. Sounds waaaaaaaaaaaay too much like Jeff Jarrett circa 1994 for my liking. They don't need to do anything more to his character at this point. Let Christian be Christian. The only successful guys in the business are the ones who play themselves, except altered a bit and a lot more intense and charismatic than in real life. Christian is more than likely doing that right now and anytime you make their motivations as characters for anything else other than being successful in wrestling, then it makes it seem useless. I'm saying characters in general. Like, it's not like 2001 Rock was all "I'm going to beat Steve Austin so I can go make movies." That just transformed into it. The main problem with the WWE is they take something and they force it down your throat. Christian is good where he is right now. When it's ready to go to the next level, they'll do that. The Hollywood aspect really wouldn't be played up as much as the "big star" angle, with the idea that Christian doesn't need it to prove he's the best, or because of his passion for the wrestling industry. He just wants his name in the newspapers, his face on television, and the world title is the way to do that.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 My main knock on Christian has been that he's bland and boring in singles matches, but considering the bums SMDN has pushed in the past year (cough Bradshaw cough) might as well trade the guy to SMDN and give him a push. Cena won't be doing shit after the JBL feud anyway, unless Eddie turns heel or Angle is healthy enough. The serious worry that WWE might have is that Christian might school Cena on the mic and come across a lot funnier and more entertaining. I still think Cena is not legit over, but over mainly because he's the "cool" guy getting a push.

Guest Coffey Report post Posted April 19, 2005 I'm curious how many people still think that Edge is better than Christian. "Christian is nothing but headlocks" is what they said. Well, what the fuck does Edge do? Shitty Spears?
Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Edge still owns Christian.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Eh... I have always liked both Edge and Christian. I still do, but I'd say I prefer Christian on the mic and Edge in the ring. I know Edge can be great on the mic as well, but he's merely so-so in his current character.
tominator89 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 He does, perhaps in terms of getting a push. Other than that, I'd still take Christian over Edge.
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Looks like this is starting to become another "whos better Edge or Christian thread" ...Christian is better.
Guest Thrashist Report post Posted April 19, 2005 I think what's happening with Christian is that after all of these years, while Rock, Austin and the bunch were on top, most fans were anticipating that the next wave of superstars would be Benoit, Jericho, Van Dam, Booker, Guerrero, etc. But after many of those guys were effectively buried when they got their chance on top, and the new batch of WWE-made superstars haven't worked out (Lesnar, Orton, etc), Christian is one of the last characters that still has a connection with the fans and hasn't been buried in a high-profile feud (by Triple H). It's too early to say, but if these pops for Christian continue, they should go *exactly* the way the Rock went in '98. Have him continue as this cocky upper midcard heel for a little while even if he gets face pops. Then slowly but not explicitly have him become a babyface. Then, as soon as he's close to the top, TURN him back heel and give him the strap (I know we can't replicate Survivor Series '98 here, but that would be perfect). He'll be over as fuck. But it looks like they're going to send him over to Smackdown and feud with Cena. That would work, but as long as they can take a risk and have the two trade a few title wins and become nemesises, not just have Cena go over Christian one PPV and done. Next week's Batista vs Christian match is huge--it'll tell us how highly the company values Christian and whether they'll ever consider him as a contender. If it's a long match (that takes place last) and has several near falls, then they'll go somewhere with him. If it's a generic match with some petty cheating by Christian but mostly a perfectly clean win in timely fashion by Batista, then I doubt it. As for the Edge/Christian debate, it's a no-contest. Edge SUCKS. He's been back for a full year and has done nothing memorable. His original face run was so boring, and he's just 'whatever' as a heel. Christian owns him. slimm44 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 How great would it have been if Christian's comeback to Vince's 'Do you know why I decided to make my return since the Rumble' Christian: 'Well rumor was you couldn't walk' That would have been great
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 That would of been awesome but you could be quite sure that never would of happened.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 I'll buy Edge when he gets a heel personality that works to his strength. And when it comes to him being intense, he is beyond laughable. Christian over Edge for me. I've never really enjoyed Edge when he was away from Christian. Now I know why. Christian is just too god damn entertaining whereas Edge is just...blah. I have no clue what the WWE sees in him. No clue at all.

The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Why send Christian to Smackdown when you could switch the champions and bring Cena to Raw?
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Because if Triple H was on Smackdown J.R. wouldnt be able to call Raw "The Flagship program of the WWE." anymore
Scroby 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Why send Christian to Smackdown when you could switch the champions and bring Cena to Raw? Mainly because HHH will bury the two real fast. If anything sending Christian to smackdown....again, would be the smartest thing to do. Smackdown needs talent and all the help that show can get. If anything other than Christian and Tomko maybe heading over to Smackdown, I wouldn't be surprised if Edge also went to Smackdown as well. If anything the WWE could do a angle where Edge's money in the bank contract isn't valid on the Smackdown roster since he its a Raw deal or something like that. Sorry if that got a bit off track with the topic.
claydude14 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 No, it's fucking stupid. If they really wanted to put Batista over it should be about how Triple H is afraid of him. Not some circle jerk for Triple H. Christian should've been pissing his pants at the mere mention of fighting Batista tonight. The only point to sucking the pedigree's cock lately is so that JR can cream his pants when Batista kicks out at Backlash. That said, Christian >>>>> Edge. Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Actually I think Christian started to change his character around after Rock gave him a speech about how he has "it" and that he just needs to find it. Kind of ironic since at the time it didn't seem true at all, but Rock may of been right.

natey2k4 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 If Christian gets drafted to Smackdown, they god well BETTER take Tomko too. And the way Christian said he.. he said he should be the 1st pick.. does that mean that they're actually going to be able to pick talent.. I'm not sure how that'd work. Oh and Edge is a pretty good heel to me.. I enjoy him (mostly because of his entrance)... but Christian just blows him away. Christian's been my favoruite since they first came out as a team. B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Oh and Edge is a pretty good heel to me.. I enjoy him (mostly because of his entrance)... but Christian just blows him away. Christian's been my favoruite since they first came out as a team. I just don't buy Edge as a hardass obsessed with the belt. Every interview he gives seems far too forced, and it hurts him alot. Christian, on the other hand, is so natural at getting heel heat that he's finally getting really over. And, is there a better catchphrase right now than "This is how I roll"? Team Angle Pusher 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 I just watched the Christian segment from RAW for the first time, and then I watched it again....and again, and I have to say CHRISTIAN RULES. Christian is ten times better then Edge, in the ring and especially out of the ring. He has great facial expressions but his mic work is also excellent. He did a promo with Vince and Vince should know by now he NEEDS to be pushed to the moon. The fans loved him and booed him, Christian made a funny comment and they all laughed. It's great to listen to him. I just hope they let Christian take Batista to the limit, maybe HHH could interfere and then it will be a DQ. Christian then goes to SD! where he goes for the WWE Title. slimm44 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Edge is a better heel than a face. What annoyed me about his return last year was they kept playing him as a good guy when he kept getting booed. They finally learned in September/October. Christian has always been a favorite of mine because of his cockiness...and he really has been overlooked (Summerslam 2003) but hopefully opn Monday he has a good match
