Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2005 I won't be going until Friday at a 1pm or 2pm showing...hopefully the fanboy count will be at a minimum around that time...
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2005 Do you know how hard it is to get a ticket out here? Los Angeles is a 45 minute drive or so in non-heavy traffic, and the Hollywood showings have been sold out for God knows how long. As a result, people will move on to other theaters, eventually getting here. Really, I don't want to go on opening night really, other than the fact that it'd be my only chance to say I saw a Star Wars movie on opening night. I'll probably end up downloading the movie, but I'll go see it in the theater a week or so after release just because I owe it to myself to see the film on the big screen. That's pretty much the way to go, I think. Well, I'm also going to attempt to take my 2 1/2 year old who is turning into a huge Star Wars mark... examples: she does the Vader breathing (she picked that up all by herself), says "Do Not Try" (reference to Yoda's "Try" speech in ESB), loves Darth Vader, Yoda and Chewbacca and freaks out whenever she sees them anywhere, sings what she calls the "Star Wars" song (she sings "Da Daaaa Da, Da Daaaa Da")...she wants to watch one of the movies at least once a day, sadly to the point that I can't take watching them anymore... Anyway, I figure if I take her then, she won't be too much of a disturbance for the goony fanboys that would give me dirty looks and threaten me with their lightsabers and force powers, or whatever the fuck they do...plus it's her around her usual nap time! It's a goofy dad thing I guess...my father took me to the first Star Wars when I was 3 (they re-released it several times in theaters in the late 70s and early 80s) so I guess I kinda wanna do that with my kid... Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2005 I don't know why someone would want to avoid the opening night atmosphere (in the cases of those of us who don't have kids or whatever). I'd much rather be in a crowded theater with a bunch of other huge fans than a few days later in only a fairly populated one with casual viewers. Like seeing wrestling live, it only heightens the experience.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2005 No dude, I saw Episode 2 the night it came out (not the midnight showing but later on in the evening)...worst theater experience of my life: long line, goofy fanboys, unsupervised children running around screaming everywhere...not to mention the fact I was sitting next to 4 Jedi that had seen the movie twice already that day and quoted the whole goddamn thing...the EXCESSIVE marking out for the Yoda fight, ugh! I saw Episode 1 about two weeks after it came out, that was nice and quiet and pleasant...
Guest Essa_Angelico Report post Posted April 20, 2005 For those in England, Are any of you gona pick up tickets for may 16th's marathon + premier? I'm considering it, it's £50 for the 'galactic passport' but that gets you into all of the days events and premier. I'd love to go to it because it would be such an experiance but would need to get some friends to say they'll come before the tickets go on sale on the 24th. See, you can prevent all that unpleasantness by seeing the midnight show, because then everyone else is at the same position of not knowing lines or any of that. They're more apt to just sit back and watch and have genuine first reactions.
Special K 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2005 NERDS! Sorry. Had to be done. I'll wait til the crowds die down. I am cautiously looking forward to this movie.

Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2005 My friend and I have a plan where we're going to take a pair of lightsabers and act like we're going to fight with them in front of the people in line, then just drop them and start brawling.

I thought I was gonna have to smack a bitch that kept flipping out whenever Anakin was on screen. She was about 14, dressed as a "jedi", and kept moaning like a lost cow everytime he came on screen. She was also probably in the neighborhood of 350 lbs at 5'6" tall.
LessonInMachismo 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2005 The theater I was in for Episode II literally laughed at all of the loves scenes, the grassy meadow scene in particular. My three and a half year old boy probably wants to see it, but I will have to view the movie first and make sure it isn't too violent, since it does have a PG-13 rating. He is obsessed with Star Wars. He especially likes to reenact the scene from ESB where Luke is hanging upside down in the ice cave.

Robert 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 *Sadly raises hand* I was baited in by a friend to get em, so it wouldn't be like my last midnight showing of a Star Wars movie (Empire Strikes Back) when I was 13. I ran by a long ass crowd, and screamed "Vader is Lukes Dad!" I then ran with my dad to his car, and speed off getting away from the raging fans.
