Slayer 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 VX, the last two years were funny like that 2003: Vikings lose playoff spot to GB (and earn even more ridicule from Packers fans) on the last-second loss to Arizona. GB loses to Philly in the divisional 2004: Vikings beat GB at Lambeau to make up for 2003. Lose to Philly in the divisional So apparently Philly is the real problem here... Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 No contest. It's the breakup of the Bulls dynasty after the 1998 season. I have been a huge Bulls fan since I was a kid growing up in Illinois, and after Jordan retired and the team was split up, I started losing interest in basketball. I'm still nowhere near as fanatical as I once was about the game. Otehr notables: The Cubs blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Marlins in the 2003 NLCS; Any time the White Sox gave up at the end of July and traded all their players away at the deadline despite being only 3-5 games behind Cleveland. Happy birthday Matt, indeed. Also, Super Bowl 32. More recently, the Illini losing to UNC in the NCAA Championship.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted April 28, 2005 I still don't understand how you could be both a Cubs and White Sox fan.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 Unlike basketball where the Lakers and Clippers play in the same division, the Sox and Cubs are in different leagues. They're not actively competing with each other. I dunno... My dad's side of the family is filled with diehard Cub fans, and I was watching their games before I could talk. When I started watching baseball regularly about 10 years ago, I became a White Sox fan as well.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 The breakup of the Bulls dynasty is right up there for me, as well. And every year until this year. They were terrible, forgettable, etc. 1990(?) NFC Championship game is also up there. 49ers vs Giants at the 'Stick, the Giants win with a last second FG sending them to Super Bowl XXV to face Buffalo. 1995 NFC Divisional playoffs - Adam Walker's fumble recovered by the Packers which killed the 49ers. They never recovered from it. Just about any time the Packers beat the 49ers. Those were horrible.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 The 1994 Strike, easily. The owners sold the National Pastime down the river just so they could try and get more money back from the players.

Just about any time the Packers beat the 49ers. Those were horrible. Oh, I'd say the "Redemption Catch" is right up there as well.. The 7 seconds left, Young-to-Owens TD that took the breath right out of me. Man, ever since that Super Bowl victory, it's been heartbreaking loss after heartbreaking loss in the playoffs. Can't we just lose in normal fashion? (The "Redemption Catch" in `98, The 45-17 assraping by the Rams in `01, The first home loss ever in Packer history in `02 to Vick's Falcons, 4th and 26 in `03, and.. okay we lost rather normally this year. Thanks Minnesota.)

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 2003 NLCS, Game 6. Everything from Bartman to Gonzalez's error to Dusty waiting too long to pull Prior makes me sick. Yup. I just thank god it hasn't surfaced on ESPN classic yet, because knowing me, I'd actually watch it. I'm messed up like that.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 The utter collapse of the Twins in game five of the ALCS. They where ahead by a run going into the 7th. Down 3-1, it looked the series would at least head back to Minnesota. Than the bullpen..collapses, the Angels score like 9 runs and win the game and series. phoenixrising 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 One I always bring up: 1998, UCLA plays Miami in a game that was rescheduled and I get to watch Edgerrin James make himself a top 5 pick. 1999 - Jacksonville being able to beat any team not named the Titans. Has any other NFL team lost three games to the same team, before or since?
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 That actually happens quite a bit, with teams sweeping division rivals 2-0 and then beating them again the playoffs.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 Thing is about the Jags is that they didn't lose to ANYONE besides the Titans that year. I hated that whole Tenn. Super Bowl run that year. It began with a fluke garbage miracle play, then continued when they got the Colts into a boring shitfest (bear in mind we could have had Colts/Rams in the SB that year), and then beat up on the hopeless Jags. Ironically the SB itself was one of the best ever, it's just that I didn't want to see the Titans in it.
Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 Bayern Munich losing the Champions League Final 1999 against Manchester United, going from a 1-0 lead to a 1-2 defeat in the last two minutes. Kinetic 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 I have watched two sporting events with my girlfriend in the year and a half that we've been dating. The first was the Tampa Bay-Indianapolis MNF game where the Bucs blew a seemingly insurmountable lead in the last three minutes of regulation and then got bit by a totally asinine "leaping" call in overtime, totally demoralizing the team and effectively ruining the rest of what should have been a somewhat respectable defense of their championship. I made a total fool of myself in a very early stage of our relationship and it's some small wonder that she found it cute rather than obsessive and creepy. The other game I watched with her was the Spurs-Lakers playoff game last year with the two insane shots in the last five seconds that totally swung all momentum in the series to the Lakers. I'm not quite as obsessed with the Spurs as I am with the Bucs, so this incident just sort of compounded the other one and assured that not only would I never watch a game with her again, but that I would never so much as mention that I might be interested in watching a sporting event to her ever again. She's just the worst fucking luck.

the max 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 Baseball: Aaron fucking Boone. Clemens leaving Boston. 1994 strike. Hockey: Getting dropped in two straight playoffs by Montreal. Letting Bill Guerin walk. 1999's "crease violation" (I think it was Tim Taylor who was 1/8 in the crease away from the play, letting the goal be disallowed and the Bruins losing to the effing Rangers) Personal: Two long, winless years in high school hockey. Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 All my bad memories concern football (soccer) When I was a lad I supported Celtic. Worst moment probably was losing in the Scottish Cup Semi Final replay to Falkirk 1-0. Paul McGrillen, now playing against Queen's Park for Stenhousemuir, scored the winner. I'll never forget kneeling down against my bed listening to the radio and crying when I heard the final whistle. I was not only crying because we lost but because I knew the manager of Celtic, Tommy Burns, would be getting the sack and I quite liked Tommy. Bad memories with Scotland...Euro 96 was a sicker considering I was only 10 at the time. After a great result against Holland, it was all poised to be that battle of Britain - the Scots and The English. England went 1-0 up but we dominated the early stages of the second half...Gordon Durie goes down... PENALTY. Gary McAllister takes it and misses and in what seems like a millisecond later Paul Gascoigne scores one of the best goals I've ever seen to make it 2-0. We went out despite beating Switzerland in the last game. With Queen's Park, I'd have to say losing to Albion Rovers in 2003. We were nowhere in the league but they were going from promotion so we were doing our best to stop them from going up, with them being our local rivals. They took the lead in the first half but we dominated the early stages of the second half. All of a sudden one of their players, Jim Dick, gets sent off for diving. The guy is absolutely hated in Scotland and the reception he got when he came off was pretty hostile even though Rovers were the home team. I was getting so carried away I just about chased him up the tunnell, to which he told me to 'fuck off'. Anyway, about five minutes later we equalise with a David Menelaws goal and the celebrations are absolutely chaotic. However it falls apart, we get a man sent off and then Charlie McLean scores a wonder goal to win it for Rovers. I felt totally sick after it. Consolation was that Rovers never did get promotion anyway.

lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 2005 Rose Bowl- Watching Michigan lose that game on a field goal just sucked because I didn't want them to lose yet another big bowl game. I would've felt bad about watching Vince Young do whatever he wants more than losing on a field goal. Oh, I fully expected Vince to torch us. Michigan can simply not stop running QB's.. Drew Stanton and Troy Smith tore them apart and well Vince Young is a better runner than both of those guys. It is just the disappointment that Michigan can never win the big game

Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 I like how os fans make a deal out of the Maier incident. It didnt even win the game. You still managed to blow it after. I can see if it was like game 5 or 6, but only game 1. I mean whos to say even if the os won the first two games, the yanks were hot in baltimore and went on a tear. I still belive the yanks would have won that alcs even if it took 6 or 7. Although I can understand why that bothers you, it was a bad call, but what can you do?
