The cynic in me thinks that they will likely have the current WWE guys go over the reg. ECW guys. As in Jericho in theory SHOULD beat Lance Storm since Storm is retiring and Jericho will be active. Ditto Dudleys over Dreamer/Sandman....they have to get up and work in WWE again soon, whereas Dreamer and Sandman really don't.

It's funny but I call Smackdown SMDN instead of something like SD because I thought it was clearer, haha.

Actually, I think it would make sense for Storm to win:

(1) He wins his farewall match.

(2) Jeircho doesnt care less on RAW and Benjamin said a retired wrestler with Jerichos response being whatever.

SMDN sounds more like SNME than SD. :S

RRR: Your complaint of a bunch a moves is quite valid. It happens far too much between 2 real good wrestlers, and usually no one picks up on it.

Best example is the Owen Hart Memorial match with Bret and Benoit. Its is truly an aweful match with Bret obviously being past his prime. Nothing makes sense at all, it was just a bunch of stuff.

Bret/Benoit wasn't about whether or not the moves made any sense, or whether it was a good match or an awful match it was two guys going out and putting on a show in tribute for their dead brother/friend and what he meant to everybody there. picking holes in that because Bret was past his prime makes you seem like a right cunt.

People all over have called that match great when it was not at all. Thats all I am saying, I am not argueing why the match happened and its value to Owen.

People blindly call it great, and it was from great.

They need to have Tanaka Vs Awesome

PWI reports that the original plan for One Night Stand was to have Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko, but Malenko had a family committment the weekend of the show and was unavailable. So, they went with Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit.

Thats a damn shame. I was hoping to see Eddy v. Malenko again after all these years, plus Benoit-Eddy, although it will likely be great, kind of doesnt make sense in terms of ECW past.

Eddy v. Scorpio (who isnt as good as he used to be admittedly) and Benoit v. Sabu, now that would be a better pairing of workers on an ECW tribute show.

Thing is I have seen Tanaka vs. Awesome about 150 times and I have long since been burned out on it. It'd be like booking RVD vs. Jerry Lynn if Van Dam was healthy. I'd use this PPV to book some wild stuff like Tanaka vs. Benoit, RVD vs. Malenko...lots of fantasy type matches.

For what its worth, I read an interview with Rhyno a month ago or so. He said he still had the ECW World Belt, but has no clue where the Television Title is. How could you lose or misplace something like that?

I think the show was wrecked after tonight now that they're bringing in so many guys who don't even remotely seem ECW. If Bischoff's crew were WCW guys that were formerly ECW that at least would keep the card intact. But Edge? What?

I mean, when you think of ECW, do you think of Tyson Tomko run-ins?

IIRC, it was stolen from his house in a 2002 break-in.

Wow, how many times do people have to ask the same question.

Its been said numerous times on here, not to mention on every spot they play on WWE TV. And, o yah, I bet its on the website!

Well surprise, surprise, surprise!

There is a lot discussion internally within the WWE ranks about the upcoming ECW PPV, and what I am hearing is not good.  Originally, the plan was for the card to be a "true" ECW show, with WWE management largely keeping their hands and non-former ECW workers off the show.  Things changed pretty quickly when it became obvious that WWE totally miscalculated how to price and promote the show and set unrealistic expectations for the event.

Internally they, misguidedly, budgeted the show to do 300,000 buys, which is more than the average brand-only show does.  Then the tickets for the show, which were priced extremely high, went on sale and didn't sell out, which the company hadn't expected.  Even though some people in the company told them that the $400 price tag for the top seats was just too high, WWE management thought that, largely based on the sales of the ECW DVD, there was a demanding fan base that would be willing to overpay for the tickets.  Then, the tickets went on sale and they found out they were wrong.

At that point, they decided to move away from the "ECW Only" aspect of the show and add WWE workers to the mix, thinking that would make the show more of a draw.  When that didn't work, they were forced to drop some of the ticket prices and now the show will not be anything close to what it was originally marketed to be.  The original plan of making it a pure ECW show was thrown out the window, and it's now scheduled to have many WWE workers, from both brands.

In talking to a number of people in the company, some of who worked in ECW and some who didn't, the expectations for the show have gone down considerably.  People who were very excited about the PPV even a few weeks ago are now dreading it.  Instead of it being run by "ECW people" like Tommy Dreamer and Paul Heyman, it's now a baby of WWE Creative.  Given the recent direction of Raw and Smackdown, that has led a lot of people think that the only chance the show has of succeeding will be via the matches.

How many fans are honestly going to order than before just because it was announced that MAVEN and GENE SNITSKY are going to be there? I'm almost definetly NOT going to order the show just because of the build up to this "ECW" PPV. It's basically just going to be the same shitty show every WWE PPV since 2002 has been but under the ECW name.

The matches so far are far from special enough to warrant any appeal since most of them are basically sold as "hey we had beef in the past" or "we're two great wrestlers, so we got thrown together again for the billionth time".

I will predict that Taz chokes out Angle. Angle's safe and wont be damaged by it.

Plus, wouldn't be the first time it happened

Nope and I doubt they even remember.

God that PWI report is sad to read. Dunn and/or McMahon have a strong knack (getting close to WCW levels if not already there) for not learning from the past. Do they really think the Invasion angle WORKED with it becoming basically WWE all over the place and everything and everyone else second rate?

I'm still gonna give this ppv a chance since it could still turn out ok. We still got a few weeks to go and I would imagine there will be a lot of Heyman and other past ECW talent begging Vince to really do the right thing here. We'll see what happens.

Also, I hope to high hell that this ppv outdraws Vengeance as that could cause a real nice shakeup within the company on what they think is working and what isnt.

If ONS outdraws Vengeance, it'll be credited to the WWE talent.

lol yeah and if it doesnt outdraw Vengeance, it will be because the WWE influence wasnt strong enough.

I'm not sure if anyone has said anything about this, but the tickets for ONS are $400 for floor seating.

Was there EVER a time when a ticket for ECW was $100, let alone $400.
