Anyone had their Wisdom Teeth removed?

Recommended Posts

After 3 years of Braces to straighten out my teeth, it was suggest by my orthodontist that I have my wisdom teeth removed lest my teeth shift crooked again. After consulting an oral surgeon it was determined that despite the fact that they weren't bothering me in the least, my lower wisdom teeth should be removed. So I had the procedure done today. I was put to sleep, and woke up without even a clue as to what happened to me. At first it was bleeding like heck, and hurt like a bitch, but it has subsided now at least a little. Unless the pain becomes absolutly excruciating, I really don't want to have to take anything stronger then Tylenol. I feel fine now, but my jaw is still completely numb. My fear is that once the numbing subsides, THAT'S when the real pain is going to come. Anyone have an experience with this? Is the worst over?

Enjoy the mashed potatoes. I literally ate that for three days until I discovered I had recovered in rather wolverine fashion. They told me a week, it was only 3 days.

Mine were coming in at a terrible angle and rotting from the inside somehow, so I got mine yanked with a local anaesthetic and was smoking immediately afterwards without a hitch.

How disappointing. I would've expected Agent to have done it with no painkillers.

I had mine removed a few years ago, and even Vicodin couldn't completely numb the pain. Of course, I had 2 "dry sockets" as they call them, which in addition to burning horribly, had to be treated by being stuffed with some of the foulest tasting shit known to mankind.

Drugs and my actions go hand in hand.

I fear mine are about to get pulled. I haven't been to the dentist in about 3 or 4 years and my bottom teeth are crowded as hell. So to make room, i'm sure i'm gonna have the wisdom teeth pulled then braces. i'm scared as hell and don't want to do it. I hate the fucking dentist!

The worst part is the numbness, because at time it feelds like you're swallowing and stuff just running down your chin.

I had mine out last summer. Took Vicodin and Tylenol for about 4 days. The meds, other than numb the pain, did nothing. No wooziness or anything.

Well, aprox. 24 Hours late, I'm feeling fine. My jaw is still a little sore where they were removed, but it's no biggee. My only issue now is that I still can't eat solid foods untill at least monday for fear of mucking something up. Oh well.

I didn't realize they were going to put me under during the operation so the "100...99..." then lights out was fun to experience. I was pretty fucked up for about 12 hours and barely ate aside from a few packs of pudding and a tablet of Vicodin, but after that I was alright. Flushing out the dry sockets was a bit of a pain though.

I had a weekend of being stoned while eating ice cream and soup, although that pretty well happens every weekend anyway.

Missed Breakdown! live in Hamilton because of it, but being stoned for 2 days ruled ass.

Got a hard on on the way to the DDS because of it. I was 14 at the time though, so bets are off.

I had my wisdom teeth removed a few years back. Didn't really hurt, the numbness was what got to me though. I remember the doctor who operated on me told my mom afterword to make sure my mouth was closed while I was sleeping because slob and whatnot would be coming out cause of how numb my jaw was. Sure enough, she forgot to and I woke up with blood covering half of my face. Good times.

I had mine done 8 years ago. I needed all 4 taken out, and at least 2 had to be cut out. One of them had somehow managed to become broken and abcessed, and what sent me to the dentist (and then the oral surgeon) was the fact that I just couldn't take the constant pain after a while. They gave me valium to put me out, but I ended up waking up briefly while they were working on the last one. I was awake long enough to think, "WTF, I'm awake?" and then it was right back out. Five minutes after it was over, I got up and walked out on my own, despite the surgeon insisting I'd need a hand. Screw that hippie.

They gave me painkillers, which I took for a few days. Good stuff.

I couldn't eat anything solid for like 2 weeks so yeah that sucked.

I'm getting my bottom 2 taken out next week, wish me luck. I'm loading up on DVDs and tapes in preparation. Thank God my shipment from ADV came in. I'm hoping it isn't too bad, because I'm scheduled to work the next two days after the unpleasantness. Dumb thing is I don't need to, but my mother is basically insisting that I do it while I'm under their insudrance, but it's entirely possible I'll be getting injected with novacaine(I am terrified of being KO'ed and any sort of gas that would screw with me) for no good reason.

I recall mine out too! It was the best, they started giving me like 8 shots in the arm.............................................................................

Ok, you can get out of the chair now & pay at the front.

Thanks & have a good day!

Thats all I recall from it, lol, no pain, not swelling afterwards. It was like getting drunk, having no hang over and taking a few days off work.

Like can't get much better than that!

I haven't been to the dentist in nearly 5 years(hey got no insurance so what do I do?), so who knows. I would hate to have that done judging from the responses here. My sister had to have a root canal once and was in so much pain I freaked every time I got a toothache, worrying that it might be the same problem she had.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled last year. Three of them went fine, after a couple of hours I barely felt anything, my jaw was just a bit numb. However, during one of the extractions, the tooth cracked and needed to be cut out, resulting in nearly a week of searing pain for me.

Had all four out about three years ago. It was done at a hospital under general anaesthetic (they were pretty bad), and though my cheeks puffed up so I looked like an Ewok, it really wasn't that bad. The pain was only very slight (still noticeable) for about 2 or 3 days, but Panadeine Forte fixed that up. It's mainly being all swollen and not being able to eat decent food for a week that's the bad thing.
