DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2007 "G4techTV is a digital lifestyle channel for the e-generation. Technology is pervasive. It touches us all. No longer is it for geeks, nerds and techies! If it bleeps, blinks, scans or prints we cover it. G4techTV is the first service in Canada to realize the promise of the digital age." Broward83 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2007 Meh, the only thing I watch G4..err..for, is AOTS and sometimes X-Play. The latter has become full of sarcasm and snide comments that just detract from what the show used to be, when Adam would host from random places in San Fran and actually put some detail into the reviews. Out of the old TechTV shows.. Call for Help and The Screensavers owned all. G4? Eh.. my vice was that show with Hawk from American Gladiators and Kevin P where teams would play against each other in a console round and then in one or two PC games. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2007 Morgan Webb is too pale, her lips are too thin and the bags around her eyes are too dark for my taste. She looks like one of the Grudge ghosts.
AlexPuma 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2007 What is G4's current demographic anyway? They've long since completely alienated the TechTV demographic, the hardcore gamer demographic gave on them along time ago, and the Spike TV demographic doesn't take them seriously. The only people I know who even like the channel are the guys who watch it for the Anime and Red vs. Blue (horrible show, btw). I know at one point, they showed Kaiju Big Battel, but I don't know if they even do that anymore, due to their odd, MTV like scheduling.
World's Worst Man 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2007 The GameCube ediiton of Fire Emblem is pretty good. There's really nothing new there, but I like how tactical the battles are and how you have to carefully mange your team members. There also seems to be a rather big roster of characters, and some pleasing archetypes. I am, however, not a fan of permanent death in RPGs, as it's basically just a forced reload like the whole party dying would be. It's a nice addition to the RPG-starved GameCube. Guest Report post Posted May 15, 2007 I was at the arcade Friday, and was playing one of those stupid games where you have to build blocks all the way to the top of the platform, and if you win you get to pick from 8 prizes. The prizes were a PSP, GBA, Car Stereo, Portable DVD Player, an iPod, Digital Camera, XBox 360, and an installable DVD player for your car. Anyway, I see the stuff in there and I think hey, what the hell, I'll try to win something. I drop in 5 bucks (1.00 per play) and get close a few times. So I'm thinking, I'll come back during the middle of the week when there's not a lot of people here, so that I can concentrate. Fast forward to today, and I'm back. I've got 40 dollars in my wallet, and I'm focused on getting something out of this machine. I drop in 10 and get close. I promised myself that I wouldn't spend more, but I couldn't help it. I drop in another 10 and fuck up a few times. I get to the end of the 10 dollars and I'm on my last play. I was thinking, if I don't get close here, I'm done. So, I put all the blocks in place and get to the top, where I've got to stack the last one to win. All of a sudden, my eyes bug out on me. I get confused with how fast the last block is moving, and lose my focus. I took a step back, said a little prayer and pushed the button. I had stacked the last block. I FUCKING WON. So the prize selection comes up, and I'm not sure how to navigate the whole thing. I had thought that the selection was going to cycle through, and you had to stop it on the one you wanted. It wasn't like that at all. I got to pick, and I picked the XBox 360. I don't have one, so that's what I was gunning for the whole time. It was coming off the rack, and I was thinking, please don't get stuck. Please don't get stuck. It didn't, and it fell right into my hands. I WON A FUCKING 360 FOR 20 BUCKS. The Platinum edition. Things like that don't happen without divine intervention.
World's Worst Man 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2007 You're clearly lying, as arcades no longer exist. Pretty cool though, even if I have no idea what game you're talking about
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2007 Yeah, part of why I stopped caring about Xplay is it became less about the reviews and more about forced skits and snark. It used to seem more balanced to me (not necessarily when Kate left, but after G4 took it over) a long time ago. Out of the old TechTV shows.. Call for Help and The Screensavers owned all. I miss Leo the most from the network. That guy was awesome.
Guest Report post Posted May 15, 2007 You're clearly lying, as arcades no longer exist. Pretty cool though, even if I have no idea what game you're talking about It was the arcade at the bowling alley. The manager walked up to me and I thought they were going to take it for sure with some bullshit excuse about how I cheated. I'm paranoid about stuff like that. I'm pretty excited right now, I won't be able to calm down for a while. I drank way too much coffee before I went. It was like I was on performance enhancers or something. DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2007 A friend of mine was desperatley trying to win a DS Lite from this machine (it's called Stackem) from Highway service centres last weekend. The timing for the top block gets wonky and when he thought he had it worked out, he'd screw up and lose early.
Guest Report post Posted May 15, 2007 Yep, that's what the machine was. You get to the top and it goes so fast that your eyes deceive you. I got to the top about 4 times and messed up before winning it.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2007 Congrats, King. As for the G4 thing, I hate the fact that the only video game programs they show these days are X-Play, AOTS, and Cinematech. Even Icons is now mostly a non-gaming show. That sexiest games special from yesterday will undoubtedly be replayed multiple times. The funny thing is that the games they showed are not even close to the weirdest games in Japan. Search "Choaniki: Great Brother". Oh, and Olivia Munn is gorgeous, for sure, with a great rack. I've always had a thing for Morgan though, and she is incredible in person.
-DeN- 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2007 The only good things going on G4 nowadays are the Trek re-runs (I don't give a fuck, I like getting baked and watching Picard and figure out anomalies and kick ass repectively) and Layla Kayleigh (her segments are useless, but she's ridiculousy bangable and that's how I'm judging TV hosts in this part of my post). AOTS: Olivia Munn is borderline retarded (no offense Matt Young) and that Kevin guy (who must be related to some executive or something, as he's been on every show that's ever aired on every iteration of that network in some capacity) makes me want to kick him in the face. He makes me want to. I'm not violent. Cheat: Useless. Who gets their cheats from a TV show? And even if you did, what would be the odds that the exact cheats you wanted would be the ones they'd be showing at that particular point in time? Be some fucking coincidence. Smues pretty much summed up X-Play. Meh. The old pre-merger G4 is looking brilliant in comparison to what's it's become, and that shit sucked too. //Starcade
Darthtiki 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2007 Starcade owned as well as those early eps of Players, and Tina Wood who was on G4tv.com wasn't too bad looking. God do I ever miss TechTv though, CFH, Screensavers, Unscrewed.
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2007 I only discovered G4 a couple of years ago, and it seemed incredible at first. But since they have been dropping their gaming related shows (Electric Playground, Judgment Day) in favor of shit like Cops, Cheaters, and The Man Show. AOTS: Fun to watch once or twice a week, but gets old fast with daily viewings. X-Play: Tedious to sit through. Cheat!: Not a bad show if I'm looking at games I might want to play, but the advice is borderline useless. I remember a specific Wii episode where they were really just showing how to use the controllers. That's not cheating, that's just reading the players manual out-loud. DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2007 I almost get the impression the reason I have nothing against G4 is because I never saw the old version (plus we still have Leo Laporte, EP, and Reviews on the Run on the Canadian version). I find AOTS enjoyable enough as well but I couldn't watch it every day. Although I'd like to assume someone wrote this for her, Olivia referred to Double Dragon for XBLA as an graphically enhanced version of the classic NES game. Yeah. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2007 Nickel-A-Play blows balls, but lots of folks still jampack the Family Fun Center...there's actually a new joint that just opened up up here called Dave & Busters, it's an arcade with a bar inside... it's funny looking back on old posts in this thread....I suggested to Carnival to check this place out 2 years ago...and low and behold, he now works there! Golgo 13 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2007 I liked both G4 and TechTV way back. For months after the merger I gave it all a fair shot since it was still entertaining for the most part. I was okay with them trying to out-edge the competition such as Adult Swim, which started fine enough, as well. Then two years later that somehow meant a total change to a generic, unfocused men's network which, I guess, means licensing cheap syndicated shows that guys may kinda, sorta like, with Arrested Development and Star Trek being the two good things out of that group. I can't even stand X-Play anymore and even if Tallarico is garbage, at least his shows were in the vein of the original direction of the network. Now with Cheat apparently gone I don't think they have a hand in more than three shows of their own with the rest being old syndications, which you would think would be illegal in some way. If it didn't have Comcast behind it such a low rate network wouldn't even exist anymore and I don't get how there can be such a difference between the US version and the much better G4TechTV Canada. Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2007 I really like AOTS. Kevin doesn't come off as annoying to me as some of ya'll think he is. And I'm an Olivia fan. Best show on G4. I'm in the minority, and this is probably the white trash in me, but I love watching COPS and Cheaters. It's fun to see how dumb people really are sometimes, and these are quality shows to see stupidity in action.

Golgo 13 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2007 Oh. Kevin P. isn't that bad and COPS and Cheaters are awesome, they're just not 'good' if you catch my drift. I'm all for watching the dregs of our society act stupid, just not ten times a day, every day when it tires on you and it's obvious G4 is just being cheap and lazy by running it constantly. And Ninja Warrior. I like the Ninja Warrior.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2007 And Ninja Warrior. I like the Ninja Warrior. Hell yeah. Greatest show ever. The Women of Ninja Warrior they've been showing the past few days is nice. The cute Japanese "actress" who turned out to be a porn star surprised me though. The t-shirt nearly busting open should have tipped me off.

Scroby 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2007 I gave up on G4 after they got rid of Judgement day and the show where it had teams of people playing against each other. Actually I liked that show better when it had the first hosts when the channel first came on. It was some fat guy and some skinny guy, but they were funny as hell. I'll watch X-play every once in awhile but I don't make an effort to catch it anymore. One thing I found out about Judgement Day was I guess the hosts saw what was going to happen to G4 ahead of time and just got out of the contract when they could. I talked to Tommy Tallarico about it at the Video Games Live show they did in San Fransisco. I guess the two of them still do a show like Judgement day but it airs only in Canada. He said I could watch it online, but I don't remember where he said I could watch it.
