Ced Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 Ripped from IGN's site July 13, 2005 - DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures confirmed this morning that director Michael Bay will helm the forthcoming Transformers flick. Bay had been circling the project for months, but was reluctant to discuss his involvement as recently as The Island press junket on Monday. Island screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci wrote the screenplay for flick which will be realized using live-action photography and computer animation. The studios also announced a release date of July 4th, 2007. A November '06 release had been rumored. Steven Spielberg is executive producing the film, with industry magnates Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto and Don Murphy serving as co-executive producers. DreamWorks distribution head Jim Tharp hailed Bay's involvement saying, "Under the direction of Michael Bay, and with Steven Spielberg executive producing, we know that Transformers is going to be the kind of explosive action movie that is perfect for the height of the summer movie season. By staking our claim on the 4th of July, 2007, we ensure that we not only have the time to make this movie the way it should be made, but also to build excitement and awareness leading up to its release." Hasbro will be collaborating with the production team on all creative aspects of the flick – good news for Transformers purists. Keep an eye on Transformers.com as it will transition to a movie-themed site after an official unveiling at Comic-Con later this week. Con attendees will get a nice tease for the flick in the form of a massive 18-wheeler near the DreamWorks booth. We'll be bringing you more straight from the con! ---------------------------------------------- If they don't have at least one chaotic brawl that matches the animated movie's opening, I'm going to be pissed.
The Amazing Rando Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 The movie "opened" with a planet being eaten. The chaotic brawl was a good 20 minutes in. Either way, yes, I want to see some CGI metal flying around and destroying things. They never seemed to do TOO MUCH damage to their surroundings cause they always chose to fight in deserted areas, but here's hoping we see some Decepticon urban destruction. In light of the the terrorism, however, nothing bigger than a corn silo will be destroyed.
Anakin Flair Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 That brings up an intersting question- where will it take place on earth? I forget where it was in the cartoon, but where could they do it in a live action movie? New York is played, London wouldn't be right since the bombings... how about San Fransisco? All those hills would be great for a car chase (and Starscream flying wetween the buildings).
SuperJerk Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 Hopefully the theme music for this one will be better. Or at least have songs that won't be recycled for use in a Mark Wahlberg movie. It'd suck ass if they got anyone but Peter Cullen to voice Optimus Prime.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 Spectral General needs to do the soundtrack again.

All those hills would be great for a car chase (and Starscream flying wetween the buildings). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The ark originally crashed in Seattle, Washington...I would imagine most of the stories centered around the northwest portion of the country...one or two took place in NYC when Megatron tried to turn it into another Cybertron...the hate plague storyline took place all over the country...of course a lot of the stories took place on other planets as well... what I'm more concerned with is what storyline they follow because anything other than the original is ass...I'm sure they'll do something original, but hopefully they don't stray TOO far from Generation One...
Black Lushus Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 Spectral General needs to do the soundtrack again. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> that was a damn fine soundtrack, wasn't it?
Spaceman Spiff Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 Does Megatron get to be a handgun again? Or do they wuss out and make him a tank? And do they stay faithful to the original toys (i.e. Soundwave will be a tape recorder)? Too bad the voice of Starscream is dead.
Boner Kawanger Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 Soundwave will be a special edition iPod released just days before July 4th. The ad campaign will be Transformers silhouettes flying around, transforming, and dancing. It will either be the greatest achievement of mankind or the downfall of modern society.
CBright7831 Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 I've known about this movie for awhile thanks to Spielberg's imdb.com page. To bad Orson Welles is not alive to reprise his role as the voice of Unicron. Unicron: I have summoned you here for a purpose. Megatron: Nobody summons Megatron. Unicron: Then it pleases me to be the first.
AndrewTS Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 I have my doubts. Isn't Transformers a bit too reliant on character development for Michael Bay to handle it? Seriously though, this should be right up his alley.
Corey_Lazarus Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 But it's also reliant enough on giant robot battles to be RIGHT up his alley. Special FX? Tons of action? Yeah.
razazteca Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 So what is the plot this time? Will it be the Autobots stopping the Decepticons from stealing all of earth's engery cubes or will Unicon try to destroy some planets? And who will play the annoying kids that always get in the way....what is Seth Green, Mark Walberg, Olsen Twins doing right now?
AndrewTS Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 As long as it has nothing in any shape or form to do with Armada, it could be fun.
SuperJerk Posted July 17, 2005 Report Posted July 17, 2005 The new movie shouldn't copy the plot of the cartoon movie. It should take place on Earth to capitalize on the fact that Transformers disguise themselves as Earth style vehicles.
ChrisMWaters Posted July 17, 2005 Report Posted July 17, 2005 Does Megatron get to be a handgun again? Or do they wuss out and make him a tank? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Eh, I always thought that the gun was a wussy transformation for the leader of an evil army. Hell, he wasn't even mobile in his transformed state. He had to have someone carry him around like that. Now, Generation 1 Galvatron's transformation was cool, IMO.
AboveAverage484 Posted July 18, 2005 Report Posted July 18, 2005 It'd suck ass if they got anyone but Peter Cullen to voice Optimus Prime. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, pretty much him, Megatron, Soundwave, Starscream, and Grimlock are characters that absolutely can't have anyone but the original voice actors to play them. Unfortunately Chris Latta has passed on so any hopes for him to voice Starscream are gone, I always loved how he did Cobra Commander's voice too. Does anyone know if he did voices for any other cartoons?
haws bah gawd Posted July 18, 2005 Report Posted July 18, 2005 I know the G-1 Galvatron Toy could transform between the robot form, as well as the tripod-cannon, and a laser pistol. I know he didnt transform into the pistol in the American G-1 cartoon, but did he ever assume the form in the japanese episodes that followed? I hope Unicron makes an appearance in this film, or at least in a possible sequel a few years down the line. I always was a fan of him. He was neither Decepticon or Autobot, but something far more omnipotent and powerful than either team. I liked how the G-1 comics portrayed him as a dark god, pretty much the Satan of the Transformers Universe. As for Chris Latta, he provided the voice of Mr. Burns on the Simpsons for a while, and also appearared on Married with Children as a character named Roger during the No Ma'am episodes.
The Amazing Rando Posted July 18, 2005 Report Posted July 18, 2005 It'll probably be the rehashing of a plot similiar to the X-Men. Most of the US/World/whatever will be freaking out about these 'creatures' that can disguise themselves as earthly vehicles, while the Autobots are trying to give their kind a good name, the Decepticons go around and fuck it all up, and in the end everyone will see that...yes, the Autobots are the good robots and the Decepticons are the bad bots and then Grimlock will say something witty and the credits will roll and that'll be that. Also...the fucking DINOBOTS had *BETTER* be in this film. I don't care if they 'disguise' themselves as things that don't exist anymore except in Venezuala, they NEED to be in this.

Black Lushus Posted July 18, 2005 Report Posted July 18, 2005 I didn't know he was also Wheeljack...interesting...funny how it lists him as playing Wheeljack in the movie when the only time we see him is after he's already been shelled out...
AboveAverage484 Posted July 18, 2005 Report Posted July 18, 2005 I didn't know he was also Wheeljack...interesting...funny how it lists him as playing Wheeljack in the movie when the only time we see him is after he's already been shelled out... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My guess is that Wheeljack talked in the original draft of the movie, but in the final one his lines were edited out but they just left his name in the credits.

DangerousDamon Posted July 18, 2005 Report Posted July 18, 2005 With all this new info about new live action Tranformers and TMNT movies, does anyone think a live action G.I Joe will be made in the future?
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted July 18, 2005 Report Posted July 18, 2005 Live action Ninja Turtles? Ugh.
AboveAverage484 Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 Live action Ninja Turtles? Ugh. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Uh, it's already happened, but I'm pretty sure you knew that. I thought the first Turtles movie was good enough, they don't need a rerun.
Human Fly Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 Does Megatron get to be a handgun again? Or do they wuss out and make him a tank? And do they stay faithful to the original toys (i.e. Soundwave will be a tape recorder)? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Megatron will not be a gun. I do not know if it has been announced as to what he will be, but it has been announced that he will not be a gun. Soundwave will be a helicopter.
The Amazing Rando Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 WHAT?!! SAC-RI-LEGE! Soundwave can NOT be a fucking helicopter. That would be like making Inferno a lawn tractor or something. This shit is doomed out of the box for anyone that was a fan of G1, which is most everyone.
Guest Prodigy Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 Megatron will not be a gun. I do not know if it has been announced as to what he will be, but it has been announced that he will not be a gun. Soundwave will be a helicopter. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bullshit. I would have settled for a CD Player, but a fucking helicopter? Ugh.
